Mike - love your stuff - I've watched 'em all. Hey - how 'bout some details on bringing a vintage 1980's steel road bike into the 21st Century. (Trek, Raleigh, Univega, Motobecane and on and on). Like you did to your Univega - It looked amazing! How do you handle getting a new BB & crank. Are the standards the same now? Can you upgrade the gearing to a cassette and indexed system. Stuff like that!
I'm so glad I watched this. My only experience with road bikes is a Raleigh Rush Hour, which I ride single speed and absolutely love. Lately, I've been thinking it could be fun to purchase a carbon fiber frame on Ebay and make it into a single speed. You have experience with both the Ebay carbon fiber frames, and with conversions. Any advice? You mentioned conversions are problematic, do you think I'd have so much problems that it wouldn't really be worth trying?
@ozunajd the spacing on the rear of those carbon frames is wider then track wheels you could order one but you'd have to run a road rear wheel and a single speed conversion kit, it wouldn't be a fixed gear but it be a super light single speed
I saw that you had a Pro-lite Trentino for a hot second, could you tell me what you thought about that bike? I found one complete for $450 is that good? Do you think that it will retain its value in the future. I've never had a track bike before how do they handle around town? Sorry for all the questions. Mike's Bikes rocks! Much Respect!
im gettin a lo pro soon.,im in the thinkin of gettin threaded fork cuz its easier to find the headset as well as cheaper stem. but ma friend said to me to get the orginal 1" threadless fork that comes with the frame. help me choose plz
hey i wanna ask you something but it has nothing to do with your video. well, would you recommend me to use toeclip or strap for 46-17 gear ratio? hm my fixie has no brake. thankyou.
@bpraditya mks metal cages and leather straps are the strongest in my opinion, mine have yet to fail me after 2 years of hard skids. plastic cages work alright, but my friend had his snap off and fell down a flight of stairs. not safe imo.
My first real bike was a Daimondback MTB that I inherited from my brother. Then I drug a 1970-1980 era Schwinn traveler out of my dads shop. It was at that point that I fell in love with road bikes. I then walked into the bike store and asked the manager, whom I already knew, what type of bike would best suit me. He set me up with a Specialized Langster (fixie). I will soon be selling that do to the hills and long rides in my area (Oregon Coast), and putting the money towards a caad8.
@SenorDingles Thats cool. Not really to that point yet. I did trade in my fixie plus some cash for the caad8. As much as I loved my fixie, the hills in Oregon require some extra gears at times. I've also found that brake hoods are nice for climbing and sprinting.
@bluenotefan5 thanks man, if i end up gettin a cross or mtb bike ill def do videos on it, theres plunty i can learn from them, Im gonna start road bike videos eventually
My first built was a Mercier Kilo TT with Formula Hubs, Nitto risers, KALIN seatpost, Truvative crankset and KMC chain. Next I built a Leader 735TR, with Truvativ Omnium crankset, Nitto track drops, Campagnolo chorus seatpost, and Dura ace 7600 Hub laced to Mavic Open pros. Next was my NJS Nagsawa, Nitto track drops, Nitto seatpost, NJS 90mm stem, Phil Wood Hubset. My last build, ( what I use ) is a DODICI special, ZIPP Flashpoint 60 wheelset, DURA ACE 7710 Crankset, CAMPY chorus pedals.
@TheNewStoryLine NIce man youve had some nice stuff you should make a video wtih some pictures, ive had few bikes since this video im restoring a NJS bridgestone right now
@SenorDingles What color was it when you first got the fuji? Where did you get it painted? Can you make a video explaining ALL the different types of headsets and how to install them or the one you have? And also what specific measurements i need to know to buy part for a new frame i bought? Thanks!
@itsAJVD it was a 2006 FTP, and my dad and i repainted it he paints cars for a living. And yea ill do that as a part of a video i have planned after then one im working on is uploaded, and measurements depend on what part you want and what frame you got, message me the specs and ill try to help you out
@SenorDingles The frame I am planning to buy is the Leader 721TR V.2. what forks and headsets is compatible with this?? Need help on what stuff to buy for this...
@itsAJVD Id stay away from leaders they use cheap aluminum thats why there cheap, but if you do get one you can go on there site and see the parts they offer that fit that frame and then id research similar parts on ebay or craigslist to save some cash
but itll be a intergrated headset and a 1 1/8th carbon fork
@SenorDingles integrated headset?? Marcus from leader bikes said that they use zero stacked headsets...And how do you know they use cheap aluminum?? Just asking..
@xGurT its 1. very dangerous since the drop out is very short, 2 it be really really hard to even get teh chain tension right since theres no way to pull the wheel tighter or anything.
it be best to do a single speed with a vertical dropout frame
@fasty004 haha well thank you for watch but you should try, i didnt ride for a while but have gotten back into it latly, i try to ride atleast 20 or so minutes a day atleast
at 2:06 there is a piece of tape on the front brake, why is that? Its on my bike as well.

where did you buy that Fuji track pro frame set???? what did it come with?
And how much did you buy it for????
What is a chub hub and why is it so big???
And why would you recommend using a chub hub???
Sorry for too much questions... I hope you answer all these questions?
Nice vids btw, keep it up.
itsAJVD 1 year ago
@itsAJVD I got my fuji from craigslist i got frame fork and headset for $350
The chub hub is a carbon fiber rear hub and having the hub so large allows you to use shorter spokes which makes the rim stiffer.
and thanks
