  • I do understand that he isn't doing fully technical lifts but he isn't training for the Olympics. He is training his bodily systems together. Has anyone ever done gripper workouts for their hand strength? Should we expect that person to change their training to be able to close the CoC #3? Only if that is what they said that wanted to achieve. This man does not want to go to the Olympics for a gold medal C&J, so ignore the haters who can't understand why they won't train their way. If he

  • impressive...unless you've tried this keep your mouth shut peanut gallery

  • now try to lift at least for one time 300 pounds...

  • @calcetosocko crossfit is about functional movements that translate into everyday activities....how often does anyone lift 300lbs?

  • @prepaf33 how often does one lift 135lbs?

just saying, i'm neutral in crossfit vs oly

  • @Darmokand.... you couldn't be more wrong. Sure, practicing w/more weight will gain strength, but the point "Grace", as is the point of all CrossFit WODs, is to test your overall fitness. Performing "Grace" in 89 seconds is very impressive, I welcome you to try it.

  • @ctresp what the fuck is "grace"? the name of a whore??

  • This is stupid. Clean and jerk is a power exercise. Not going to get very strong or powerful doing 30 reps of low weight. His workout time would be much better spent doing proper (heavy, explosive) clean and jerks and then going running for cardio.

  • @DarmokandJiladLLP totally agree with you bro

  • @DarmokandJiladLLP Grace more of a an anaerobic threshold test, if you look further into more Crossfit workouts there are some more focused of low reps for power/strength and some focused on high reps with bodyweight movements, and some combined

  • to much hunchback.... ma opinion though, otherwise nicework!

  • BadAss dude!! Keep up the good work!

  • I saw 30 no-reps, Grace is C&J, not C&P

  • @PatBateman4 its clean and jerk is recommended but the WOD only specifies ground to over head. Jerking is more efficient and saves you in the long run but its ground to over head.

  • @russebla000 xfit post last month: "'Grace' For time: 135 pound Clean and Jerk, 30 reps" But I'm sure your right: by "Clean and Jerk" they really meant "Clean and Jerk or any other more efficient move you choose." Not saying the guy didn't crush a sick WOD, just saying he didn't crush Grace.

  • VERY NICE!!! GREAT WORK BUD

  • Impressive stuff !!!

  • wow, big mike is... big.

  • such a good time and you were pressing not even jerking, VERY impressed!

  • i bet the feeling he had after he did that last 4 was better than when he quit early

  • Straight. Up. Beast.

  • Awesome job man I saw video and recognized u from fgb6 that's for the help and motivation I'm one month into cf and loving every wod...

  • That kind of workout will build ripped lean muscle

  • @MrLmfao1989 Actually, a clean healthy diet will do the same...but the work out is bad ass.

  • sick

  • boybuidilng haters and Crossfit haters were born now! :D

  • i just did this today and ive got like 3.48.. and i thought that was a good time! hehe.. guess i was wrong.. been doing crossfit 2 months now =) really love it..

  • that was SICK!

  • Well done. You're a badass. Keep up the good work.

  • The stopwatch says 1:30 ;)

  • holy cow that's impressive!!

  • wow awesome time....how did you do on WOD 3 of the Open?

  • Good form or bad form, that's the best Grace time I've seen.

  • Beast man!!

  • doin work!!!

  • That guy is both impressive and inspiring.

  • inspirational.great job man.

  • Please let me sh_t on your great effort by saying you did it wrong and that I have this fantasy that "anybody who hasn't actually done it" can do it faster. This helps me justify my slow time. No I do not have a video of me doing it correctly.

  • @classyguy69 How was it wrong?

  • @bnewton10 - totally curving the back, bending over & just muscling it up

  • @VW97770 again...workout for time...not form.

  • Horrible form dude, sorry to say. Your trainer needs to go back to school to learn oly lifts. You are Cleaning it, then Pressing it.

  • @VW97770 Going for time...not form...

  • @bnewton10 - then you're going to be going for injuries.. time makes no difference if you're using shitty form.. try to compete like that and you'll get nowhere

  • @VW97770 Your just a hater. I would bet...and I know that if this was for form he would be able to do all of them right w proper form. Thats just it...its for time...and if your worried about injury so much go lay in bed all day and don't do anything!!! Its not a coaching issue or a proper form issue...he has great coaches there and has the form down. Its a workout for time!!! When you get ready to stop being internet tough guy...post a video.

  • @bnewton10

Your argument is contingent upon a fallacious dichotomy - one can be out of bed and practice proper form. Also, "you're" vs. "your."

  • @PTurchan1 Nope, never said anyone can just walk in and have it. You obviously don't know the guy or the gym, so take your spell check ass somewhere else.

  • @bnewton10

What? What I was responding to is the following that you said: "if your worried about injury so much go lay in bed all day and don't do anything!!!" I said that one can be very concerned about injury and not be in bed all day (i.e., training). And spelling matters, sorry.

  • yeah big mike sorry bro you didne do the squat to make it a clean its how its done in the games make another vid bro

  • @MrRonnierambo, no it's not - if you are referring to the last event in the 2008 games that was a different work out. Normal Grace can be any thing, squat clean, power clean, split clean etc. By the way Mike this is a wicked time, especially considering your height, i'm guessing your about 6''4? that bar has to travel a long way. Great stuff!

  • Awesome effort!!! Just started crossfit today, did a HELEN and and followed it with GRACE, the GRACE took me 4.47. Well done mate!

    Mike, UK

  • Freaking beast!! I'm 16 years old and tried this workout for the first time 3 days ago and got 3:01. I thought I was movin about as fast as anyone could but that was impressive

  • @matt566549 -great job Matt, and welcome to the CrossFit community bro!

  • that's amazing. i knew there would be at least one dipshit on here badmouthing it. took me 7:08, I can appreciate it.

  • @timtyrellisgay -no shortage of critics on youtube at all is there!

  • awesome effort! super efficient movement...love it!

  • i seen 90 seconds ;)

  • Pretty sick dude! Quite impressed with how efficient you are at this lift, no wasted movements even near the end. That's something to be proud of.

  • Wow. More impressive that he's so tall. Long bar path.

  • How big are these guys? I can only clean and press 135 like 3 times. I'm 5'6" and weigh around 140 pounds. I guess I have a lot of work to do. LOL.

  • this video = sick

  • killer, good job

  • WOW!!! amazing work brother!!! way to go!!! IMPRESSIVE!!! almost still don't believe it.... but thats what crossfitters do!!! the unbelievable!!! Keep working!

  • All I can say is anyone who wants to mouth off should try it first. That's awesome. I would feel like a beast if I could do it half that fast.

  • I got motivated by this video. Did it today in 4 minutes 56 second. This guy's time is sick!!!

  • Mike you're a friggin beast. Nice work!

  • Dude, Intense! Bad ass! I'm hoping for a sub 2 minute Grace within the next 6 months.

  • only one word after that: beast

  • holy shit,thats tough

  • hey great time hard to tell if thats actually 135 though i dont doubt you witnessed a 1:43 earlier this morning

  • Hey Big Mike :-) I saw this video about a year ago and when I was with you at the level two, I did not put it together that this was you. I always thought that this was an outstanding performance on Grace "overhead anyway 30 times for time" friggin' outstanding work dude.... I am so gald that we did not choose this as the WOD that day at lunch......

    Have Fun, Train Hasrd,

    Billy

  • Impressive. The first time I met Grace I forgot to move my head and chin checked myself hard! But then I finished although my time was bad...

  • AWESOME! Best C&J form on a vid I've seen in ages. Vertical path...yep.

  • Awesome, almost unbroken! This "Grace" is totally legit. It´s overhead anyhow, so just get it there. Squat cleans would´ve made slower AND harder, especially if you´re a big guy.

  • doing correct form, full squat cleans make it easier sure but its alot slower.. you do not need to squat clean grace

  • I did Grace last month and it took me about 4:30.....and i was dead at the end.....but i've only been doing crossfit 6 months and i'm only 16 so i think thats pretty good.....but this guy is a fuckin beast....did you go to the games this year?

  • amazing if you can do it all never mind 89 seconds you the man

  • those arent clean and jerks! booo! they're cleans and push presses!

  • workout is ground to overhead anyhow...for some people that means they don't need to jerk it

  • This is insanely impressive.. Most people can only dream of killing Grace in sub 1:30.. My PR for Grace is somewhere in the 3:30 range.. which I was quite proud of. Would be curious to see how he scored on "Uneven Grace".. Either way, sweet video and that guy is a beast

  • Awesome job! Very impressive, anyone not in Crossfit and hating just try this once and when your in a puddle on the floor after taking like 10 minutes to complete then make fun of this guy!

  • Grace and Isabel are power workouts. If you don't need to do a full squat clean to get the weight to rack position, you don't have to.

  • This is not "Grace"... this is power Grace, but very nice! =)

  • As proven by several CFHQ videos, Grace is ground to shoulder to overhead anyhow. Power cleans, muscle cleans, deadlift curls, what ever floats your boat.

  • grace today for crossfitters, this is getting me fired up

  • its even harder to do 30 clean and jerks with correct form

  • Really? Wouldn't better form make it easier? He locked out at top and didn't bounce off the floor = legit WOD. Good work.

  • Nie job bro!

I like the fact that you kept it all legit with full lock out at the top, killer performance

  • That's really awesome! Keep training hard bro!

  • fuck that!

  • That was really hot. I wish he hadn't stopped, though. He should try it again; I bet he could do it in less time.

  • Show me the video

  • Awesome work and very hard!

Although they aren't proper Clean & Jerks as the squatting movement and jerking movement are misses out.

    Still a very good workout.

  • If I recall correctly Grace is ground to overhead however you can get it there as fast as you can.

  • Is it? I thought it was 30 Clean & Jerks for time. I'm not knocking the guy i think he's in awesome condition.

  • Check the comments section on the main page, I'm pretty sure HQ said anyway you can to get it over head.

  • if i recall correctly on the crossfit website, grace is 30 clean & jerks, in this video, i didnt see a single one

  • nah, grace is any way overhead. Power clean and press, push press, or jerk are all fine. "Ground to overhead" as fast as possible

  • Dude mike friggen awesome job man!!! Grace is ground to overhead anyway. Now that is legit and fast as shit!!! your a beast brother.

    Pat Barber

PS this vid is much better than that 300 vid by the way ;-) heh.

  • Thanks for the good words man. I'm trainin to catch up with you guys in the games.

Runs, burbees and pullups are key moves too huh?

  • Show me a video with proper form for a workout that is Prescribed as to take a barbell from the ground to a full overhead extension. to me that means by any method neccesary. Send that technique to me please and I will show you a video with it done!

  • ummm no, when i checked the crossfit website, it said grace is 30 clean & jerks of 135lbs for time, notice the "clean & jerk", thats a big part your missin out, nowhere does it say grace is bringin the barbell to the overhead extension position, and if you were actually going to do grace, you havent even started in this video, because you are cheatin your way power cleaning the bar into the upright catch position, and avoiding the squat clean portion which would save leg energy for the jerk

  • you are right. I have an Olylifting cert and what I am doing is a power clean. But is far as the workout goes it does not call for a squat clean. The Crossfit games workout of 155 lb Squat Clean to over head is did have that rule and I did it in 5:40. What is your time on that one?

  • By the way, I don't need to check the Crossfit Website to know the rule on "Grace" I have been to 5 Crossfit Certs and coached at 3. I know everybody in the CF community and the rule for the workout it ground to overhead as fast as possible. I wouldn't cheat my way through anything and please don't ever talk trash about people on the internet again. It's pathetic!

  • If they can do it 30 times and have full extension overhead without falling over then by all means let them make a video of grace and show us all something impressive. Skilled olympic lifter clean and jerk 400 lbs... somehthing we all should be amazed with. Most of them though don't have the endurance to get this workout done very quickly and much less under 3 minutes. Crossfit is Crossfit because we are the fittest people not neccesarily the most Skilled.

  • I'm a crossfit trainer, and he's done this workout perfectly. Full extension in the knees, hips, and arms overhead, and the bar touches the ground at the bottom. Those are the only rules. cleaning and jerking is simply the most efficient way to do so, however if an athlete is strong enough to power clean and push press the bar, then it counts. Well done man.

  • He's right, you know. Grace just means getting the bar from the floor to overhead lockout 30 times. Nowhere does it say you have to use the full squat clean, and since this fellow can generate enough power on the pull to receive it fully standing, that's how he does it. Correctly.

  • Highly highly doubt either Ronnie or Mariusz have the conditioning to do Grace quickly. Sure they are beastly strong, but the point of Grace is not strength it's metabolic conditioning, that is why the weight is light. There are CrossFit strength days where you would work on singles/triples with heavy weight and tight form. Different workouts, different goals.

  • you are stupid.

They both could do it, and under 2-3mins without a doubt...

Haven't you seen some of the training Mariusz does? He is proficient enough in oly lifts to perform this movement and the weight is so light that for only 2 mins worth of HI work, he could easly do it.

ROnnie is a beast and does rep ranges for stuff in the 20 range, he could also easily do it with a powerlifting background.

  • There's a video of Donny Shankle (elite American weightlifter, 230lbs BW I believe) doing Grace a few hours after winning American nationals. I believe he barely makes it under 2min. Mariusz is strong and could probably do it under 3 but Coleman is gassed after 30 walking lunges (I've seen the DVD). He is too big and inefficient (bodybuilder).

  • Mariusz could easily do it under 3 mins, EASILY! Many of the competitive events he does last for minutes and are super high intense with no rest.

Coleman is gassed after 30 walking lunges. To make that statement and said you've seen the DVD, you should know that he did that near the end of his workout, not fresh. Coleman could do Grace under 3 mins, 135 is a buzzing of flies to Ronnie. He could pound through 15 reps then take a break for 20 seconds, then pound through the rest easy.

  • Sorry, need to apologize, for some stupid reason I was confusing Mariusz with Markus Ruhlz (bodybuilder), not sure why. For sure Mariusz could handle it no problem. Coleman I'd honestly like to see, or see him run a 400M etc.

  • K, i'm glad you are somewhat sane.

I agree, Ronnie would look almost comical RUNNING, period. whether for 100m or 400m. But think of Coleman just deadlifting 135 from the ground, reverse curling it up to his chest then pressing it.... you gotta realize he not only has super human strength, the workouts he does are not the BB type movements a lot of guys do today. He could man-handle 135 like you or i could lift 35 lbs off the ground and press it. it's just too light to tax him enough.

  • Ronnie could do 135 with one hand, ever see vid of coleman manhandling 275 straight off the ground then overhead and onto his back for walking lunges?

  • @ShaneM686 Then lets see him do it...the purse is huge this year...i wanna see it.

  • He does it with 100kgs under 2 minutes, not 60kgs as in this video.

  • who the hell does this with 220 pounds in sub 2 minutes?

  • @trance4mation how about you do it then

  • Now that was freakin fast, and solid. Good job!

  • Strong work. I know it had to get hard to hold on to that bar. Good time.
