Nah, every drummer has a level of appreciation for the life of each set of sticks they have. The more you play with them, the better they feel in your hands. If you change sticks every time they get in that worn-out condition, you'd change sticks too often. Wouldn't you agree?
@xcosmicsoulx Not at all....looks like he smacks a lot of rims...and he's done a few times in these vids - also his rolls on the snare are not tight at all...might better to play a buzz roll in double really fast...just my opinion...all you will ever need for jazz.
This kind of roll is ok if you're still young and need to fake it, but just listen - you can hear that it sounds sloppy. To get a really good, clean roll, you need to make each hit of the drum perfectly spaced and at exactly the same volume. This simply cannot be accomplished using this technique - you have to really, really work hard and use your wrists for EACH and EVERY stroke. Watch Jim Chapin do a roll and you'll know what I'm saying.
I'm still learning the press roll. I'm at the point where I can play buzzed 8ths at 60 bpm. Where/what do I do from here? The stick rebounds buzzs approx. 4 times but I'm not certain.

@xcosmicsoulx I think changing the sticks when the top part of one has literally broken in half isn't "changing sticks too often".
