Here's a place in time that society forgot. When music was cool, groovy & innocent. Lyrics were clean and people were pure and unspoiled. Unlike today how media serves our kids a bunch of FILTH where lyrics of gang-sta rap & hip-hop are full of profanity, recording artists are horny sexual beings portrayed in videos & pop stars are admired for getting in trouble with the law - WHAT kind of CRAP is that ?? Just citing how societal erosion is deteriorating the very fabric that holds us 2-gether.
As a "Classic R&B Rare Oldies 60's-80's" buff I must note that "Mr. Postman" is by the MARVELETTES. Our Legendary R&B artists worked hard for the hits that made them household names. It's incumbent upon us to make sure we're accurately representing their music & history when we pass it along. Peace, Power & Purpose!
I'm old enough to have seen the Shirelles and the Marvelettes back in the day, when they were cranking out hits and this is the Marvelettes with Gladys Horton singing lead.
As I see others have already posted the fact that this is the Marvelettes and not the Shirelles I'm not sure if this was 1962 but if it wasn't it must have been released at the end of 1961 and I was 12 when I bought this record thanks for the posting regardless
RIP Gladys Horton, who was just a kid when she sang lead on this. She cut some terrific stuff for Motown, and I saw her on stage a few years back She was fantasic, but God knows who the other "Marvelettes" with her were. Far too young to be the original girls.
Gordy treated this group very badly in favour of the Supremes and Ms Ross, so no wonder he lost so many great acts. He made his money and ripped off so many artistes at Motown
