Wendy Schaal is the daughter of Dick Schaal, who played Chuckes the Clown on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and was married to Valerie Harper at the time...
ABC never knew what to do with this series- the executives in charge in the early '80s were clueless as to how to develop successful sitcoms [yes, they turned down "THE COSBY SHOW" before NBC bought it in '84!]. That's why, after this was cancelled {and allowed to flourish in first-run syndication}, ABC had just TWO sitcoms at the beginning of their fall '84 schedule...and about eight nights of Aaron Spelling dramas (of course, I exaggerate- he actually produced seven weekly hours for them).
Two different "AND"s in the credits. First, "And Ann Jillias as Cassie", and then "And Barry Youngfellow as Jan". What gives? And Paul Kreppel sandwiched in between. I always wondered how those special credits statuses are determined...is it contractual?
This is like TV comfort food at its finest. I don't know why, but watching this show after a hard day at work or a night of partying was also so relaxing. Hopefully now that Warners has begun to license out their vintage sitcoms to Shout! Factory, we may see a DVD release *fingers crossed*.
@sonicflight I know, eh?! That just BLOWS... MY... MIND _each_ and _every_ week when I watch that show! Now that TV Land (Canada) is becoming Comedy Gold (sister-station of The Comedy Network) on August 2nd, I hope they pick up some of the AWESOME 1980's sitcoms like this and 'Too Close For Comfort'!
I remember Wendy Schaal from the short-lived FOX sitcom GOOD GRIEF which she co-starred with comedian Howie Mandel and Joel Brooks. I believe that ran for a season or two starting in 1991.

I've never seen this show and now have the urge to see a whole episode. So, I guess this is a pretty good opening credits thing.

Wow...I remember this when they used to air this on the old WWOR cable superstation in the afternoons, and during rain-delays for baseball.

And thus, the sitcom genre begins its slow decent into mediocrity.
