My opinion on gay marriage and well marriage in general is this: marriage is a religious thing and should be handled in churches. The government has no business recognizing marriages to begin with. That is, Marriage is a personal/ decision and the government doesn't need to be involved. However, we are a nation of religious freedom thus if a church doesn't want to marry gay people it has no obligation to do so. The argument in favor of gay marriage is that it violates the Fourteenth Amendment to specifically exclude gay marriage - discrimination based on "SEX".
There is no Constitutional standard establishing that the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment applies to "NUMBERS" - which is the case for polygamy.
Gays are fighting for rights that they, in accordance with the 14th Amendment, should ALREADY have. This is not the case for polygamy.
You've used one of the weakest stances against gay marriage. The problem with slippery slope arguments - they can slope the other way. If the state is permitted to cite “traditional restrictions”, then you must take into account that not so long ago people with mental disabilities & sexually transmitted diseases were “traditionally” denied access to marry. If gays are not permitted to marry on grounds of tradition, then you should agree with denying these other groups the right to marry as well.

polygamy wouldnt be allowed even if gay marriage was allowed because there is no right for someone to marry more than one person in the country. on the other hand, people already have the right to marry a woman, or marry a man. this is why people have been able to get gay marriage in certain states based on equal rights in the constitution. it would not apply to polygamists. i have nothing against polygamy personally, but it would be a judicial mess dealing with multiple partner divorces.

Theres nothing to do. Terrorism sprouts from the idea of fighting a global evil power and the supriority of Islam. You can't counter something intangible (an idea) with guns and bombs. The vast majority of abortions(over 95%) are convenience abortions. I always hear about a woman's choice, she made a choice, she chose to have unprotected sex. Conservatives are not "more" for "morality".
Conservatives just tend to define "morality" much more narrowly and are much quicker to judge OTHERS based on private behavior, despite, themselves, not applying a higher ethical principle to their overall thought process.
Conservatives are also likely to vote for a reckless war-monger, just because he CLAIMS to hold the same judgments against others' SEXUAL behavior.

History proves otherwise - in that many of their positions lie in racist and prejudice arguments against everything they see as different. Liberals are typically the little man's advocate - doesn't mean it's like that all the time: it's politics. And unless you're an Old Testament advocate - Jesus never had a problem with gays. The vast majority of abortions(over 95%) are convenience abortions. I always hear about a woman's choice, she made a choice, she chose to have unprotected sex. Are these women surprised that the end result of intercourse is pregnancy? I'm a man and I understand pregnancy isn't a side-effect, it is the sole intended purpose of sexual intercourse. With all the sex ed being taught to our children, one would think that would have been covered.

For the record, I can appreciate the Libertarian POV and NO, there was no ONE cause for the shit we've seen in recent years.
Also in recent years, though, some Dems have beome somewhat more moderate while the GOP seems polarized to the far-right; not to be confused with "trantional conservativsm". Naturally, though, much of that has to do with power structure and the tides of the public opinion.
But once again... 500 chars. Suffice it to say I'm not impressed with EITHER party.

i can respect that... i have been a little disappointed in the people that think democrats are the answer to the nations problems because i feel they are equally responsible for them.... this whole housing market crisis... no democrat stood up against the high risk loans until there were a lot of people defaulting on the loans. in fact, i believe democrats wanted these loans as much as republicans. rebublicans like deregulation and democrats like help for low income individuals, win for both.

The Dem's failed post-2006 for not standing up for what they claimed to believe in, in addition to not taking any number of actions when needed. I was sorely disappointed in them for that.
Each party has the weakness of pandering to their special interests, support base and also trying to be on the "winning" side. I personally long for more viable parties.
