I came home yesterday and the toilet was running continously. I thought, "Oh shoot, I forgot to lift the handle up the last time I used it. It continued to run, so I just shut it off at the valve. Tonight at 9:45, I found your video. (I have changed a fluid master before, I just was hoping that is not what it needed.) I followed your instructions, tested my work and yee-ha... it worked!
You sir, are an f'ing superstar. I went one step further and used canned-air to blow out any grit that I'd missed with a q-tip and voilà, she is fixed.
You saved me a trip to the store and unneeded parts. You are awesome.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I had no idea what to do with the 'new' insides. My Water Dept. replaced my meter today and all of a sudden the toilet won't shut off. Makes sense - I guess some grit was dislodged and ended up in that part. Anyway your video was just what I needed! Thanks again.
only problem i have with my toilet is i don't know how to fix mine cause ever since we bought a flush valve all its been doing is turning off where the toilet wont refill half the time unless you press the handle and i haven't been able to find how to fix it on the internet
I'm a complete plumbing novice. Without your explanation as to how to lift and turn the arm to get that off I'd have been calling the plumber. Mine was a bit of a struggle and I ended up taking the whole unit out first as that came away easier than the top.
I think once you know what you need to do (thanks to videos like this) it gives you confidence as to how much pressure you can apply to make it move without breaking it.
Thank you! You just saved me a service call. If I may add one thing I had to do. There was something in the tube so I put a cup over it and then opened the shutoff valve for about 5 seconds thus ensuring the tube was cleared out of debris. Put the cup over it or you'll have a water fountain.
Thank you Sir!!! I was about to go to Home Depot and waste time and money. Mine had a little piece of rubber stuck in there. it only tooke me 5 minutes to fix. Thank you!!!!
You'll want to adjust the fill valve height a little bit so that is not so close to the fill tube maximum height. This way it doesn't constantly run by overflowing into the fill tube. There is a slide up against the float on that particular model that allows you to fine tune the water level in the tank. Newer models have a screw adjustment to adjust the tank water level.
WOW, you are the man!! My can was running for like 24 hrs straight and I tried so many things to fix it. Wasn't until I stumbled on this vid that I was able to end this nuisance for good. Great stuff!!
Bloody awesome! Thanks for the post. It took me 40 mins to screw the piece back on though because the new small water saving toilets are so small and everything is hard to get to. Thanks!
I watched the video 3 times (not mechanically inclined or trained) and followed instructions. I had a little trouble after turning the water back on getting it to fill the tank. With a little more twist on the white top assembly, it filled and worked perfectly. Saved the cost of a plumber and thanks so much for your very useful information.
Wow -- another wow among all those responses. It really works -- I only spent 15 min fixing it (5 min on watching your video twice to make sure I understand), Think I'm lucky finding your video after a few tries on utube. You're the best.
WOW!! on the way to get a screw driver out of the tool box thought to myself i'll check youtube, there was a little pebble about size of a grain of sand. good thing i never made it to the toolbox. much thanks!
Videos like this are the reason I love YouTube! Followed the instructions, cleaned a very dirty valve seal, put the cap back on, turned on the water and it shuts off perfectly! Took all of 5 minutes - Thanks for posting this!
Thank you so much for posting this!! My toilet has been running for months and I didn't have the money to get a plumber!! I shouldve turned to youtube a long time ago!
Nice video! Thank you for making it. Easy to follow your explanation. Solved my problem in no more than 3 minutes. I expected to have to buy a new inlet valve. Cost to me? NADDA!
thanks for the help! That's a sound that drives me crazy - I was about to move the float before I found your video. AND I would have left the water on!
i believe that brand of tank float is called a "flowmaster" at least around here and you should also note that you might have to clean the grate inlet (at 1:22 its the "+" inlet at the top left hand corner though mine looks like spoke star * than a cross +) other wise good job and "tanks" alot.
we dont have one like this one but i wanted to replace gaskets in the old flush vaulve but ever since we bought a new one i noticed its been having problrm cause ever since we fixed arse it was fine tell it started riseing or will this fix are problrem from this video ??
Took me a while to find this specific video but it was well worth the wait!!
Theres so many useless fill valve videos that don't even touch on the grit, and the grit was exactly what had water shooting all over my bathroom everytime we flushed it. And now we don't have to call a plumber thanks to you!!!
Thank you VERY much for this posting! It was late at night and we started looking at our running tiolet. We looked at several postings and yours is the only one that solved the problem! Now we can sleep! Thank you again!
This really worked!!!!! So simple and my toilet is no longer running!! I didn't want to pay a plumber, so jiggling the toilet worked before but was so annoying. I really thought this was like a miracle. Could not have been simpler.
That's exactly the problem that I had. Thanks for being real when it comes to saving money unlike 99.9% of every freaking salesman in town. Most are just a conjob trying to make more money and I don't care that they might be lacking knowledge and thus innocent because the professionals are out there who know the truth that don't want to speak up to save people money except for this video. It's about time.
I can't believe it! I went on youtube to find out a way to replace the toilet parts to fix the running problem. I try out the method from this video and it worked the first try!!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I am a plumbing-idiot homeowner and 2 of my 4 toilets were constantly running after being flushed.
When using this method, consider if you have a new toilet or not. I did, mine were all < 3 years old. if you have a really really old toilet, this method may not work, but if it's new, it should work.
My only comment is that when you clean the underside of the valve, swing the arm so that the pin is fully exposed. This will get all the gunk out. Thanks!
