  • 2:18 He is talking to the camera whilst lightly strumming the beginning/main chord for Crash (Into Me).

  • dave seems so normal not braggy like or a dick

  • like how they added the oasis cover segment, love this video!

  • sumthin weird i was born the year this was filmed and now im a huge fan and hav seen them 2 times and goin 2 c them in june whoo

  • Dave looks like Peter Pan @ 3:52

  • That was sweet! thanks for the post

  • we were there in 98! so amazing!

  • I'm kind of surprised the Dutch aren't up on the DMB! They have everything else locked down over there. They're very cool, laid back people in the Netherlands and very tolerant of us stupid Americans that go there to smoke weed and act like idiots on our vacations... LOL!

  • Does anybody know what the source of this video is?

  • @kissmusiclover

Like it says in de description: as seen on Dutch TV July 1998.

To be more accurate; NOVA, a dayly tv show on public tv containing news backgrounds

  • Dave OPENED for The Stones, now look at him. Big improvement :)

  • very cool video and insight into his early years. I was in amsterdam for one day and one night a couple years ago. I got stoned and then lost in the subways for hours with my sister. We saw this guy who was like 9 feet tall standing in the middle of the tunnel whistling just stairing at us. Ive never seen such a cool place, and that was after coming from scotland and ireland for two weeks. I will be back one day. I have amazing memories that I cherish of amsterdam. USA

  • DMB concert > Rolling Stones concert X 1,000,000

  • Cool! First part of the vid is shot at the Theaterschool Amsterdam, a dancing and theatre school I attended for 2 years. It has a really great view (it's also a really cool school XD)! And it's really cool to know that Dave Matthews sat on that very same rooftop :D

  • I lov Amsterdam, I 'll be ther on 02/27/2010 :)

  • back in Amsterdam 3rd March 2010!!!!!!!!

  • yes, we'll be there!

  • @Anorak1968 was there, was fkking GREAT! where were you standing? me about 6 metres from the stage, on the left hand side, next to some dutch-davehead gang. loved every second and penny twice!

  • @crashedcan @crashedcan We should have brought a red rose.. me in that area too!

  • Dinsdag was geweldig! :D

  • Zeker!

  • what song is he playing at 4:30

  • "all along the watch tower" - jimi hendrix song but they often cover it

  • it's actualy a bob dylan's song, jimi hendrix covered it too

  • ohhhh yaaa duhhhhh!!! - haha my bad

  • actually an old folk song that everyone has covered but its chill.

  • incorrect.. song was written by bob dylan covered by hendrix, dave matthews, and tons of other well-known bands

  • watchtower duh

  • @SuperGuitar9 He was playing All Along the Watchtower

  • "Oh no! I'm not world famous, I'm famous in Virginia..."

    Classic...!

  • I am smiling at the way Dave says he's only famous in Virginia!

    Yes, he is very humble.

    What an amazing human being.

  • This video is still sooo cool and now I am so looking forward to July 7, 2009 Dave Matthews Band is coming back to play in Amsterdam again! I just got back from the States to see their show at the IZOD center NJ and is was awesome! I love the songs we've heard from the new album "Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King"; they are so different but again SO good. Speaking about the cover.... Dave's a great designer too!

  • JayD49,

See you @ HMH. Will be great!

    Anton

  • Hi Anton, would be nice meeting you in Amsterdam! I just wonder how many Dutch people (fans) will be there....maybe just you and me and loads of American tourists.. ;-) For me it would be perfect.....Niks is zo leuk als een publiek dat meebrult met alle songs...de kenners..de diehards...oftewel the real DMB-family!

  • Ik ben er ook!!! ;-)

  • love dave

  • melkweg wow- i remember like it was yesterday. I too loved the 1995-6ish stuff and seeing them in Amsterdam as a field trip from studying in Spain (I live near Chicago)- it was amazing to be that close in such a small place and have them play their hearts out. I actually in that fanfare book written about fans who either met dave or had close run ins. check it out online if you get a chance. I have never seen this video and yes it is a treat.

  • honestly thats the weirdest thing. my brother Dimitri did the same thing in spain and went there and is from chicaog. was it like a different trip or were u with him?

  • I went with a Purdue program to Spain and I went to amsterdam with a girl named rebecca and a guy named ...oh I forget the guy's name but I dont think his name was dimitri

  • This is sooo nice! I am a huge (Dutch) fan since 1995 and in those days I could only dream of seeing DMB live. No need to say that I felt So Damn Lucky they came to Holland in 1998 and they had their own show in "De Melkweg" in Amsterdam. Great small venue, packed with Americans and lots of smoke ;-) It was awesome. Still in disbelief about LeRoi's passing but grateful that in 2007 I was able to see Dave & Tim in Paradiso, DMB in London and the last summertour concert in the Hollywood Bowl!

  • You write very well in your non-native language. (love DMB as well)

  • awesome stuff, the same year I discovered DMB as well, must have seen this I guess :P If ever I saw Dave playing on the streets I'd go ballistic dude! He speaks a bit of dutch, during his concert in Paradiso he started in Dutch, he lived in Amsterdam for quite a while, so that's why. Hope it won't be another 10 years before he comes to Holland ;)

  • I Couldn't Stop Laughing When He Said "No I Stare Right Back At Them..."

  • I would love to see him on my street corner just jamming but dreams dont always come true lol

  • DAVE U R SOOOO FAMOUS BUDDY!!!I love you guys ur music fucking ROCKS!!!

  • does he ever not play this song?

  • true, but it is a damn good song and maybe he just likes playing it.

its SO weird seeing people not even care that hes there!

  • Thanks Anorak1968 for this gem. Dave is quite humble. I just saw clips speaking with the Dalai Lama. NOt only is his humble but his fricken' intelligent too. I love his heart!

  • for one of the best singer songwriters of our time its amazing how humble dave is. i wonder if he would be recognized if he tried to play the streets of amsterdam now a days?

  • What an Amzing Artist.

My Bro and Pa are big fans.

  • going to a DAVE CONCERT TOMORROW its gonna be awome

  • Helemaal geweldig.... Dank naar Dave!

  • luv it

  • You think JackBabs is American?

  • it doesn't really matter... ;)

  • ba-zing, lol

  • stop stop i can't understand what your saying!

  • Ik hou van je Dave!

  • Geweldig dit :), bedankt

  • 'dankjewel..' ^^
