God how I wished I lived in Europe. I absolutely LOVE the middle ages, especially viking culture. The fact that I live in America, NOT Europe, and can grow a mean viking beard in such a short amount of time is depressing...

I think I'm going to start a viking reenactment group here in America.

Reenactement can be a hobby and a sport.

Hobby cause people try to live like they did in a special time period (like the Viking age here) during reenactement events.

They dress they wear, the tool they use, how they eat (and so on) tend to be as realistic as possible.

Usually reenactement group works with archeologist and historian to be as close as possible with the "truth"

It's a kind of way to enjoy something more than just in book and movie.

It can also be a sport with the fighting part

There was no Poland as a state, it was tribe Polanie which camed in IXc and till XIc conquared rest of tribes, including Slovaks, Moravians and Lusatians. Whole south Baltic seacoast was inhibited by Pommeranians/Wends, Lechitic (Polish) tribes, Scandinavians used to settle there too and many Jomsvikings were recruited olso from native Pommeranians.

I don`t know if Swedes were at "war" then, one escapade ended unsucessfully on Vistula for sure.

Trade with captured "POWs" as a slaves was common at that times, Polanie were doing the same even with other tribes and they weren`t loosing often. There was for sure one raid down the Vistula, but "guests" went to Valhalla, ships stayed. I don`t know about other raids here, "Russia" was raided up and down, but olso by us in 1018, Kiev was plundered for three months. Btw. Yaroslav the Wise was askeing Varingas for help, after all he was Varing too, but lost anyway.
