Goldfrapp's first album (Felt Mountain) is trippy torch music - brilliant, but not for all tastes. Their next two (Black Cherry and Supernatural) are definitely more dance oriented, but with a similar Portishead sound. GREAT for smoking and sex. Everything since then sounds like Kylie Minogue to me - predictable, above average pop music IMHO, specifically made for gay clubs.

I much prefer the album version, but the video has an aseptic quality and a purity in its use of colors that leaves me in awe. The lyrics, of course, are haunting and don't let one go still after the song is over...

I don't think Goldfrapp "sold out" as much as their album had the rather unfortunate timing to be released at the same time the rage over Lady GaGa was gaining momentum. It's natural that most people who don't know Goldfrapp thought that they were ripping off GaGa.

Making out what someone is singing in songs is rarely the foremost thing to some; a lot of the music I like, the lyrics seem nonsensical/incoherent, some people choose to (over)analyse songs too, it's a matter of each to their own. I love a lot of Goldfrapp and usually take her voice as another instrument and pick out a few lyrics for my meaning. Y'all show some love for Will! 8-)
