@5quareOne That was something I always wondered myself. Well I'm sure there's still plenty of James Bond films coming, so maybe (though they seem to just get fairly mainstream acts to do the intro songs).
Goldfrapp's first album (Felt Mountain) is trippy torch music - brilliant, but not for all tastes. Their next two (Black Cherry and Supernatural) are definitely more dance oriented, but with a similar Portishead sound. GREAT for smoking and sex. Everything since then sounds like Kylie Minogue to me - predictable, above average pop music IMHO, specifically made for gay clubs.
@acidjack73 I thought that. I just wasn't listening to it, I think its just as creative if not more to explore such a direct euphoric 'up' sensation and so well thought out, so visual really confident wonderful music.
@acidjack73 i'm not trying to be a weasel, but "not for all tastes" applies to EVERY kind of music out there. "i listen to everything" people are full of crap
@PLDGOR thats complete shit, you're not listening to it, just because its not slow or acoustic doesn't mean its not creative, it makes it more so, goldfrapp haven't made a 'bad' song yet
For some reason I falsely remember the stewardesses riding Segways, but no it was scooters. Such a beautifully shot video, and equally gorgeous song. Goldfrapp rocks no matter what she does.
I much prefer the album version, but the video has an aseptic quality and a purity in its use of colors that leaves me in awe. The lyrics, of course, are haunting and don't let one go still after the song is over...
I don't think Goldfrapp "sold out" as much as their album had the rather unfortunate timing to be released at the same time the rage over Lady GaGa was gaining momentum. It's natural that most people who don't know Goldfrapp thought that they were ripping off GaGa.
Yes, Huw is still here Alison, you 1966 taurian beauty. i am a capricorn 1962 male beauty. as you already know, Alison. Say hello to Will for me, a top top bloke. This is brilliant from him, re fucking mixed,
I absolutely love this song and Utopia, her voice is so seductive and it works so well with the melody...(sigh) I wish she'd had more songs similar to this. Her pop songs are okay but I think she really nails with "loungey" songs like these.
@Sophiieez I know! I was thinking the same thing! Even this song is remixed and I don't like it as much as the original. Seventh Tree was a bit like felt mountain.
@MyloHase It's just something "fans" say when the band they like gets too big and famous for them to keep hidden away. Basically they say it because they're not good at sharing.
@Constatonks I agree with you in most part, but some bands do tend to become bloated on fame and fortune, putting less genuine effort and creativity into their finished product, preferring to punch out quick and easy numbers to manufacture a buck, often with product placement. In this case, I can't say I see a single sign of that attitude, though.
It's pretty obvious that even if she was dressed in a sack having worked worked all day on the farm cleaning out pigsty's she would still look drop dead beautiful
Making out what someone is singing in songs is rarely the foremost thing to some; a lot of the music I like, the lyrics seem nonsensical/incoherent, some people choose to (over)analyse songs too, it's a matter of each to their own. I love a lot of Goldfrapp and usually take her voice as another instrument and pick out a few lyrics for my meaning. Y'all show some love for Will! 8-)
@WreakingHavoc1 Well I disagree, my friend. And this is why: I feel if I'm new to something that I've never experienced before, and somebody who already enjoys that thing can direct my attention to that which I should listen, I can learn to enjoy it - he may acquire the taste for that thing over time. But I appreciate your reply. In any case it made me want to listen to it again. Thx.
@whowantstogetnaked Hm, her most famous song is Lovely head, but if you appreciate something with a little more beat maybe Strict Machine. Concerning her voice only, I would recommend her version of It's Not Over Yet... But then again, that's only my opinion. : )
@whowantstogetnaked Pilots on a star is not her most accessible song for someone who doesn't particularly like Goldfrapp already... But in general I think that what's likeable with this song is the sultry atmosphere, and the fact that the voice just goes along the melody softly...
Ian Flemming's 007, Jet setters, Concord Trans-Atlantic to Paris for a romantic escapade, being served black caviar and chilled Champagne at mach 2.2 . Just some of the images conjured up.
This music, this great singer reminds me being at the second millenium of the Modern Era, where the humang being dreams of stars, rockets and planets...The future is here.
I always felt every song on Felt Mountain would make an amazing soundtrack to a James Bond movie. If you listen to then entire album it just screams James Bond.
@Equint77 i can imagine this song playing at the end and he rides out from an exploding underwater base, and then they are doing it while his car is cruising on autopilot through the ocean!
@Equint77 Totally agree! I've always thought exactly the same. That album screams film soundtrakc. I keep wondering when they're going to use Goldfrapp to do a Bond theme. Its obvious.
@Oplexicon What the fuck are you on man? Ive seen hundreds of clips by Black or ethnic, as you put it, singers and rappers with no white people anywhere. So what? It's not there to make a racial statement, it's music for all. I feel sorry for you, staring at the screen looking for what aint there.
when i hear this song i always think of being in a room in a wooden chalet with long windows that look out on white mountains and making love with someone i really love. and theres a fireplace which makes the room glow warm orange. maybe i got it from some bond movie...
I play this song whenever I'm in an airport.. and then half expect to see air-hostesses enter in on little push-scooters and passengers waltzing about before making out with one another.
Such a great song, i like the remix. This music has a massive effect on my feelings I enjoy performing Golfrapp' songs so much when i'm on stage! Magical music.
I'm still so amazed by this album. I can't express how much i love to sing Goldfrapp' songs when i'm on stage. This music has given me such bliss and comfort.
@wellytopjohnny Here's an idea....if you have resorted to cutting and pasting your viewpoints (viewpoints which are seemingly interchangable and can be used for many forums), then I would respectfully suggest you need more thinking time. @wellytopjohnny What about Seventh Tree? I find Black Cherry more poppy than Seventh Tree. The songs 'Clowns,' 'Road To Somewhere,' 'Monster Love,' and 'Happiness' are especially artistic.

@busyjones What about Will Gregory!? He's the one who writes the damn music - I am not talking about the lyrics, I mean the actual writing of the music. I like her and all, but stop giving her all the credit.
Unfortunately, Goldfrapp represents the 'exception' to the norm these days. What was once the norm (real creativity) is for now lost.. Hopefully only for the moment though. Perhaps Alison & the few like her, are the beginning of a new era of creativity.. Well i can but hope.
@xoio I think the net is the only hotbed going right now for talent. There are some talented people out there but screw the major labels, they "think" they know the business.
@xoio So hoped you were right, but the latest Godlfrapp production proves you wrong. Authenticity happens if the artist wants it to happen, never mind the medium. If you get your priorities muddled up it can all go down the drain. Still, praise to Goldfrapp and Will Gregory for what they've produced before 2010. Luckily that cannot be undone.
i fucking love glodfrapp....i love the spacey, and i love the pop!!!keep it coming alison and will.....

it's very refreshing that allison is a woman not a child. i am disghusted with the publics obsession with teen performers especially here in the U.S.

@scombs4554 ~ Agreed, I was disenchanted with pop music about 22 years ago. Allison by God is one sexy woman too, thank you Britain!

@psylinx - very true, you just need to know where to look...
