There's a little known company called Roller Feeder in my home state that beats all the squirrel proof feeder designs out there - we have one and it's 100% squirrel proof or at least it has been in 3-4 years using it - no gimmicks either like batteries or motors, it spins when a squirrel jumps or climbs on it. I like to promote home state products when I can and it's american made where so many are from china - and don't work.

I don't want them extinct, but when they start eating the plants around my home, digging countless holes in my yard, and shredding my lawn furniture, I think it's perfectly okay to take the ones in my yard out.
Also, being born and raised in the Deep South, I know that they make a tasty meal now and again.

Shopistar: They LOOK cute, sure. I actually had a baby squirrel end up in my basement because it crawled through the lint shaft for my dryer. They look very cute but trust me they can bite and scratch very badly. Around in my area they're mainly a nuisance. Last week for example they dug up all my mother's daffodil bulbs and ate them for a snack!

310blue, Squirrels are "greedy" because they hibernate in the winter. They have an uncontrollable instinct to collect and store as much food as possible to take back to their nests on the onset of winter. If they didn't do this they would starve before spring.
If you leave food out in your backyard animals will eat it, whether you left it for them or not. You might as well get mad at bacteria for entering your bloodstream without your permission.
Why not have 2 feeders. One with and one without the Twirler? This will feed both squirrels and birds, and habituate the squirrels to never use the feeder with the dome above it. :-) Unfortunately, after, maybe 1000 years, all squirrels will evolve to never use feeders with domes, and 'Squirell Twirler' will go out of business. :-(
