  • Here we are Dr...the Primal stuff..the Killer Tone wit the goosebumps.. some more 2 octave bends wooda been nice...more bass crank too..but God..your touch and that damn vibrato of yours you just don't give yourself enuff credit my Brotha...It Don't Get MUCH Better than this!

  • Close your eyes and we could believe that Eric is playing ! Perfectly done ! Awsome !

  • @Foinman thankyou for the kind review.

  • Really enjoy your playing on this and similar Mayall/C;apton tracks. Where do you get the backing tracks for all these, or have you somehow removed the guitar from the original recordings?

  • @tommc49 Thanks for the comment. I get the backing tracks here

    .jamtracks.ru/en/mpjam.html

  • I don't normally comment on these things, but I have to say - that is some very tasty work. Excellent tone, great phrasing and note choice... Just exemplary.

  • hey there Les paul 10, I know I've been nit picking info about your rig, so here I go again. What make , and type of volume pots do you have there??

  • @LesterPaul01 cts pots and vintage sprague caps

  • Was the volume on your guitar dimed?

  • @LesterPaul01 yes

  • Lespaul10, this has to be the most coherant, heart felt blues piece I have ever heard on u tube. I hear jimi page, jimi hendrix, even a hint of SRV. Eric Clapton would shake your hand if he heard this. I noticed you have the pups set low. They must be pretty strong PAF's man. I've got to get a set of throbaks before I die. LOL! Rock on.. P.S. Where did you get that AWESOME backing track??

  • @LesterPaul01 very kind of you to say and thanks for watching.

  • Are those Throbaks??

  • @LesterPaul01 yes they are, thanks for watching

  • It's not the pickups as much as the speakers - all the old cabs were loaded with the G12M's hence the authenticity in the sound - okay your playing is awesome but seriously it's the G12M's are the ONLY speakers that will give that sound - anything else is goona sound too modern

  • the greeny's, thanks for watching.

  • Quick question...

What speakers are you using here? The Golds? the Greenbacks?

  • Sweet playing and tone lp10...Like you I'm a big fan of EC's playing in that 60's period ..I've just stuck a couple of blues jams on the tube...let me know what u think...all the best....

  • Dude awesome what amp?

  • 0:40

damn that's a tasty lick. Almost EVH remnisent with the chromatics..... i wonder where eddie ever got that idea >.> *cough* clapton *cough*

  • *i mean 0:38

  • Where did you learn to improv like that jesus.

  • From years of spinning records and just playing. Thanks for the comment.

  • Boy ! you've got Claptons phrasing and tone down pat. Great job ! on one of my favorite songs ever. I'm going to check out the rest of your video's. Do you do any instructional vid's ?

  • Awesome expression and tone Phil!

THis is always one of my favorites to play too.

Which version Fulldrive do you use BTW?

I use my OCD v2 in the same way.

  • Thanks for the comment Blues.....I use the Fulldrive...never have tried the OCD but have wanted to.

  • killer tone and playing dude.. you've pretty much nailed it... this is my favorite track from fresh cream!

I too vote for some spoonful!!!

  • Thanks for the comment....a lil spoonful may come around soon.

  • Do you have KT66s in her? Also, is the reverb added in the recording or is it the room?

  • Oh, sorry-i just read that the reverb was added later. Sorry.

Man, this is just beautiful tone. I live for Fresh Cream and this pretty much nails it! Thanks for putting this up! How about Spoonful next? ;-)

  • Thanks again for the kind words Impala, yes these are original GEC smoked glass KT66's.

  • Phil did you learn this by ear or did you find music for it? Any chance you could do another post of this at some point with a straight on /close up of your left hand;I'd love to see how you play it so I could learn it. I figured it can't hurt to ask.Great job with this one! Cheers

  • Thanks Lefty, what I'm doing is nothing at all special. This is just an old tune that Ive listened to for years and have just kind of messed around with, its just an improv...nuttin' specail, but thanks for the interest.

  • nice!!

  • Thankyou for the comment.

  • You know I keep listening to this, a little more brightness and you'd be nailing that Double Crossing Time tone.

  • Yeah this was recorded at a very low volume of 1, so the highs werent quite all there.

  • fat, smooth, warm, great tone, I do notice that you play on the normal channel on all your clips, why not bridge?

  • Thanks for the comment A1, I just think the normal channel captures all those vintage tones I hear in my head best. The Bright channel is killer when jumped and mixed with the normal channel correctly.

  • Man Phil,my brain is on saturated youtube overload with these great videos you keep putting out. Love this, great job, killer tone. Cheers

  • Thanks Lefty

  • nice sound, timing on the lead parts was a bit of at points though, claptons timing was spot on, and thats the only thing lacking here, nice tone

  • I appreciate the constructed criticism, I know there are parts where my timing is off. This is one of those tunes for me anyway, where if you dont have vocals to set you up and guide you through the tune timing becomes a problem. Thanks for the comment.

  • Naw, man -- Clapton himself derides those old Cream records because he thought his own timing was off. Imagine that! That's precisely what makes it sound so fantastic.

I'll be starting to build my JTM soon! Should be here next week!

Where does the hint of reverb come from?

  • Thaks for the comment ...the reverb was added after the fact, Goodluck with the build....youre gonna love it!

  • Great tone and playing! Please can you tell me what kind of speakers and cab have you used? Thanks!

  • Mojo 4x12 1960 bottom cab loaded with 4 celestion heritage G12 20 watt greenbacks. Thanks for watching!

  • gosh that pedal really gives you the cranked amp sound at low volumes doesn't it!! great tone and top notch playing as always...you really got that clapton style down these days!

  • Yeah I was pretty surprised on how well that pedal worked at such a low volume. Thanks John!

  • Between you and The Danster, T , Tracks and I will end up in the POOR HOUSE...45s, 50s, Throbacks, Fulltones, GECs and Mullards, 58s & 59s, not to mention Mojos , Celestions, Black Faces and professional grade Mics. I'm already Half Way there NOW and haven't bought anything new....You sure you 2 aren't getting promotional fees? ...Now..... where can I order that Metro kit????..lol. Keep 'em coming!

  • Wow! That sounds like "Fresh Cream!" Great playing! Those pickups sound really good through that Marshall-type amp.

  • Thanks Soop mucho appreciated.

  • I haven't heard ANYONE play in the Clapton box as good as you my friend. I should add that your Tone, which is spot-on, gave me goose flesh . Are these the new GEC tubes?

  • Thanks Pops, yeap I finally got another match for the one original GEC I started out with. However, I now have a second matched set as backup.

  • Freakin' killer playing and tone! Excellent note choice and control. Is this LP the one with the Throbak's? Wonderful playing. Very inspiring. If it wasn't time for bed, I'd go fire up an amp. A+++++++++++++++ Cheers, T

  • Thanks T...yeap these are the Tbaks in the 02 R8.....get you some!!!

  • I bought an amp last week. Once my bank account recovers...I'm ordering some Tbak's!!! Thanks to your videos and Dan's, I'm SOLD! ; ) Cheers, T

  • Umm.....and what would that NEW amp be?

  • You're videos keep getting better & better! The last one (with the Pro Reverb) made me a subscriber, this one made me a fan!

  • Hey thanks alot Slow, very nice of you to say.

  • Great sound great playing. I love your style and choice of blues. You know I have a killer 1970 Scully 280 just waiting with tape to be burned.

  • Im not quite sure what a Scully 280 is....but I like the sound of it......"Scuuuuuuuullly two-eight -ohhhhhhhhhh!!

  • Hi Phil, this is great! How'd you get the backing track? DId you make it yourself?

  • No theres a great site that has all these BT's for free. Thanks for the comment H!

  • Thanks for the inspiring words Bigs.

  • Now that is some killer smokey tone, very evocative of Slowhand. Love the elastic time. Elegant lighting and composition as well!
