  • Great song!!

  • WOW pause at 1 :10 shit its lemmy xD

  • paul kossoff is the man!!!! wot colour is kossoffs les paul is it a gold top??

  • Paul Kossoff had flaming killer guitar tones, man!

  • They don't make songs and music like that now.

    So much understated power.

    I used to love it.

  • Man, he had stage moves like Robert Plant before Robert Plant had stage moves like Robert Plant. Best voice in rock.....ever! I'll defend that statement to the death!

  • This is the best live performance on You Tube

  • this is my fav version!

  • i am in a very happy place listening to this! i love this band! ;)

  • @LAURAM0822 Lol. Yeah. Remember when rock used to make you happy?! Today's whiny douches could take a cue from greats like this.

  • @GeetarAdam amen to that my friend lol ;)

  • That's Koss!!! Shear drive and feel....

  • Paul Kossoff is the man, made this band, non-demonstrable hard rock guitar, a special touch. Worth listening to his post-Free stuff. Peace.

  • This song Is a timeless classic it should be remixed to incorporate a modern rapper. Paul Rodgers singing and Dru Blu rappin would be explosive.

  • I remember that day well, my first ever festival and my favourite band all in one !! Loved Paul Rogers voice back then when it was raw and bluesy, hate it these days tho, he's gone all Mariah Carey with all the twiddles, what a waste !!

  • You can see where Angus Young of ACDC took his facial expressions by looking at the lead guitarist

  • @vartkes do say this, paul kossoff is single

  • All you "Why are these days gone" people, it isn't really that hard to bring them back. Just make the music you like and do what you like without harming anyone, and bingo!, you've got it!

  • awsome

  • absolutely love this

  • I never really liked this song, but this performance of it is great.

  • 1:10 ... All right now :3

    I wish I can g back to 1970

  • I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME...

  • simon kirke you are the coolest !!

  • i love it. everytime i imagine seeing this live, i imagine freaking out and going nuts, and the audience are just sat there. weed...

  • Classic rock at it's finest...thank you for posting this awesome band doing what they do BEST....JAMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!Keep it rockin brother :-)

  • Love that Bass Drum Sound :D !!

  • Amazing festival...

  • 2:18 70s and Late 60s power house!!!!

  • @n64wilbert Gotta Love Simon Kirkes Playing, Compliments the music so well and is so Tastefull yet so Simple

  • I was there on this day in 1970. Sad thing is I can't remember a single thing! What a waste..........

  • @WuffWuffOhFlashy Man that sucks!!

  • @WuffWuffOhFlashy That's the beauty of it.

  • i saw Free live in Sydney, 1970?, and the thing that always struck me was how the bass & lead bounced off each other. it was amazing (& left a bigger impression on me than Deep Purple who were the headline act!)

  • Awesome piece of music history. Wondering why the bass player was trying to play during the verses and anyone that has heard the record KNOWS the whole point was to hold the bass out during the verses, so when it came in on the Chorus it made it more powerful by contrast. Rodgers is awesome in this clip, as are Simon and Kossoff. Know why in these old clips the singers have 2 mics taped together? No vocal monitors! You had a seperate little PA on stage, or you tore your voice up in no time.

  • From 2:37 Kossoff´s solo always reminds me the McCoy Tyner solo on Coltrane´s My Favourite Things

  • @marioalassio1 Please elaborate w/ musical technicalities if possible. I love 'trane!

  • @g0ldbuG I wish I could, but I´m not a musician nor a critic. It just a case of "feeling", both solos sound very similar to me. I´sure I am wrong, bbut is what I feel when I listen to them. They didnt need to run across the notes. How many notes sre there in the Kossof´s solo of Free Me (Free, 1969). Two dozens?

  • Wowwwwwwwwwwww what a hot song, I love this!!! ;)

  • @maxpower935 "that drummer and guitarist"? you mean Simon Kirke and Paul Kossof. both legends. kos was probably a bit lax on some of the rhythm playing at the start but he still pulls off an amazing solo. Kirke is nothin but rock steady.

  • It's great that there is some video Paul Kossoff playing live, still one of my favourite guitarists!!!!!!!!!

  • Great, great song! That was some festival!! WOW!!

  • SONG STILL WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD , YER LIKE JUMPIN JACK FLASH , SO HEY SMILE , STAND TALL. NO FUCKING WORRIE'S !!!!

  • nothing like a old school lespaul running straight through a few superlead plexis!

  • love the drummer :)

  • Thank you, Love it! Rock on Paul!

  • Awesome video ! thanks for posting freeatlast1963! :)

    Thanks 61rocker for this share!

  • the singer kinda remenbers me almost famous guy

  • Gotta love Koss!! He's feelin it!!!

  • 600 Thousand People. No "Big Screen".

    No obesity crisis in 1970.

Fantastic version of the solo from Koss. Have you ever tried to play it up there on fret 20?

Now I know why he's making all the blues faces. His fingers are in agony.

    SkiPresto

  • Guitarist Paul Kossoff...

  • Paul Rodgers is fricking hot! & what a awesome voice! Loves me a wildman for a lead singer! ;p

  • @MoJo7Crow facebook search SPECTRUM Rock Band, our singer toured with simon kirke of free & bad company :)

  • @MoJo7Crow ditto.

  • Ha 666 likes!

  • Hear them Marshalls roaring!

  • wow what a fab tune ! and I was there ! what memories !! xxxx

  • omg how fab is this ! and I was there !! wow what memories ! xxx

  • wow, musicians actually used to sing and play their own instuments...A+

  • I saw Bad Company last year (in 2010) and Paul Rodgers still belts out the vocals better than ever!

  • Paul rodgers has a voice like a fuckin engine!

  • @pogg26 Damn right Rogers voice was perfect for this band! LOVE EM and Kossoffs tone Oh thank you God

  • @pogg26 More like a V8 engine with extractors!

  • Paul Rodgers looks younger today than he did here LOL

  • derbbus,

    Google: blakesarmy durham free

I've always regarded Free as a mediocre garage band thrust into the limelight by entertainment media manipulation.

  • First live band I ever saw. What an introduction to live music!! Followed that by Yes the following week at a small club in Chesterfield. About 1969 I think.

Always been one of my favourite bands, always great live.

  • Google "bad gig Durham Free" and you'll read why this song sucks! It was concocted to try to get audiences to clap longer at the end of their boring shows. It doesn't resonate with the anguished idealism or fornicatory release of the 60s or 70s - it's just commercial drivel, jerking audiences off musically for applause manipulation, which is why the disposable lyrics are so terrible. Pathetic! They were just a bunch of hacks trying to sound like an American band and make a buck.

  • @DrYattz

I googled like you said and all I come up with was your warblings on various sites. I take it you dont like Free?

The bad gig at Durham was due to the sound system going down and the fact that the auduiance were all out of it on mandrex.

The song was however, preconcieved; they desperately neede an up-tempo number, this was it.

Some say its the Stone's"Honky tonk women" turned inside out.

I think its the best rock/pop song ever made.

  • lol @DrYattz

    Hacks?.....get off the drugs dude.

Paul Kossoff is a legend....his vibrato and style inspired guitarists such as Angus Young and Slash.....hell, Eric Clapton is still spewing to this day that Paul refused to show him his technique. That's how good he was.

You sound like a andy-warhol groupie who smoked too much LSD and took the 60s way too seriously.

  • These guys were great. Pity about the drug overload.

  • Paul Kossof was going to became a guitar God just like Page !!

  • Paul Kossoff was only 19 here, what a shame he never fulfilled his full potential.

You cant teach soul like this..

  • Dude this guy seriously wrote David Kossoff under more info? His name is Paul Kossoff RIP

  • Is it strange to feel shivers while you'r listening to this song, on desert highway in 71 nova ?

  • Stunner of a song. Brilliant.

  • 8 dislikes there is no stopping these Bieber fans pokin their noses in where they aint wanted

  • I would like to thank freeatlast1963 for this wonderful video. it was always about Paul Kossoff the son of David Kossoff to me and he epitomised the spirit of the time.

  • I was there,.

  • @niceonemicky great !!!

    Stoned ?; )

  • this

  • I was there, worked For Fiery Creations, ROBBING BASTARDS. O.6 audience what the fuck is that, I believe a more accurate figure is 6-to 800 0000 or better still 3 quarters of a million people I still think today it outstripped Woodstock in every single way its just that they declared bankruptcy and held the movie back for twenty years there was a lot of fiddling including the picking of the site next to a hill that turned it into an ampetheatre they fucking knew and used it as an excuse .

  • i think that drummer hate drugs......!

  • I acctully love Simon Kirkes Drumming , soo simple and tastful

  • Had this tune in my head before I went to bed....

    STILL singing it this morning!

What a boss bit of rock music to have playing in your head!

    ...."ALRIGHT NOW!!" =D xxx

  • kossoff is so smacked off his tits its unreal! he's got his eyes closed for most of the solo and he's hitting it perfectly with added improv......... fucking amazing

  • @gunbunny1978 BS, you are not a musician, obviously, try getting loaded and playing a solo. Maybe his eyes are closed for the passion he is putting out? Go listen to the Jefferson Airplane in Monterey and see what a band stoned out of it's mind sounds like

  • about 10% of people watching this video shares it on FB

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 no way!! wowow

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 each to his own, pal.

  • .6 million people?! dang...how many is that in metric?

  • Grew up listening to stuff like!

  • Kossoff had the most genious Blues Phrasing, truely amazing and sad that playing with such raw emotion and feeling will never be felt again from any guitarist..

  • Not bad for 20 year olds........understatement

  • The legend

  • Nothing can equal this, but Christina Aguilera's version is a good tribute.

  • I wanna live in this time...

  • The camera work is very reminiscent of Woodstock. Who made this film?

    Tony Palmer?

  • Rock as it is intended. Perfect.

It always amazed me that my wife fancied Paul Rogers though; he had a chipped tooth. How could any woman see past that? Ugly.

  • Vintage rock..the guitarist were always wasted but we loved it..all that turn up,warm up, militatary style preperation is bollocks....these mothers used to warm up with a cold beer..and we love em for it...

  • Killer.

  • wish i had hair like paul rodgers :(

  • now this is what rock is called :P

  • Just got to come back here to get me a fix of a young, horny (albeit out of his nut) Paul Rodgers ~ dribble ~

This has to be one of the sexiest tunes every. But I just can't imagine anyone else pulling it off (no pun intended) - Paul, honey, this IS yours forever!

  • @1960gal you´d be surprise !!

  • @classicconnexionband That's right, I think it is/was a speedway track. Yes that's it, Joni Mitchell got upset at the '70 IOW just after a fan managed to get onto the stage, who was promptly dragged off, making the crowd unruly. I think she was talking about what you've mentioned. The fan said he was a friend and wanted to talk to her. I think he was harmless, though I'm sure he had things living in his beard!

  • @THEMASKEDGUITARIST1 Yes, he headlined at this festival on one of the days. This was only about 3 weeks before he died. He looked a bit ill but played amazingly.

  • @classicconnexionband Good comment, though I don't think Hell's Angels were used at this one. That was Altamont (Rolling Stones) in late '69 and hard lessons were learnt from that. This had employed security guards and a corrugated security fence which was eventually broken down leading to the festival being declared free, which must have annoyed the people who'd payed £3 to get in!

  • Best Just the BEST live performance of this GREAT song!. Paul Rodgers is always right on & the rest of the band is fantastic!. These were GREAT TIMES!.

  • Paul Kosoff's solo is absolutely OUT STANDING here! and it's all right now...

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic..love playing drums to this with the band

  • i think we have a drummer on cocaïne.

  • Favourite Free song :) A definate dance round the kitchen one :)

  • Wow jutst look at that crowd - totally uninvolved - if only they had known - but then this was a crowd of loser wannabes who had totally missed the boat (Woodstock) and thought they would try and catch it here south of Southhampton. Saw this troup at Newcastle (under lyne - already legends in 'on Tyne') earlier in 1970 - blew me away. Probably the best live act this side of the early Stones - in touch and as sexy as hell. Listen to anything of theirs now and be inspired - please.

  • @riverheadfilm Pal, can u imagine 600.000 people in 5 days of shows, smoking marijuana, or "tasting" some cocaine during these days? lol

I know why the people was so uninvolved. lol

Anyway All right now is so cool to hear. Pure Rock n'roll.

  • if you had too make a choice on the best rock song ,,this would be in that light

  • Just so good, as fresh now as it was then! I've gone all nostalgic and I wasn't even bloody there!

  • Wow...just pure wow!!!

  • I like the sound of Kirke's Hayman bass drum.

  • One of my all time favorite bands. Kossoff was one intense SOB. What a band. Most don't know of their other great songs. Sadly. They were legendary. By the way that Les Paul used to be Eric Claptons.

They were all under 21 when this was filmed I believe.

  • Paul, could I just have one of those Marshall heads?

  • Everytime when i am down, i start to listen Free or Jimi Hendrix and everything goes all right, does not matter if i am going to work, or if i must do difficult things. That was really MUSIC and this kind of performances will be amazing forever. Thank all that musicians who made the best music ever!!!

  • ça c'est du Rock ! Et du bon.

  • @THEMASKEDGUITARIST1 I believe so - he released a live album to celebrate the event.

  • What a shame Paul Kossoff didn't make it. Paul Rodgers has proved that you can still rock in your '60's.

  • @chrisb1953 yes indeedee!

  • Oh ya--the days when a drum set sounded like a fuckin' drum set~!

  • @guitarzan73 hahahaha... damn right.

  • @guitarzan73 ...and not a techno sounded piece of shit!

  • @guitarzan73 haha i was thinking exactly the same!

  • Brovo!! Long live Paul Kossoff!!

  • This one of the greatest rock songs of all time .......

  • 40 years on and still cool as hell

  • Pink Floyd the greatest rock band ever in the world, but Free my absolute favourite rock band of all time. It was a privilege to be young and see these bands many times when they were in their prime.

  • Wish I was at this festival. All my favorite bands were there.

  • This is rock and roll!

  • classic

  • ROCK AND ROCK AGAIN...

  • ohhh yeah.... it's pure rock n roll... amazing...... rock n roll thats what i need babe :D

You can find them in this Youtube.(1) Fiorella Mannoia "Quello che le donne non dicono (what women don't say)" - Italian Great lady singer.(2) Iwasaki Hiromi - Japanese "Anata" or "Hatachi Mae" - Japanese lady singer who is almost equivalent toMs. Celine DION.(3) Patric Fiori "Marseille" Corsican
