Is it true that the music is "region protected", so to say? For instance, I live in the UK, and my iTunes account is set to the UK store as well, but I bought a CD in America and have it on iTunes and want to upload it to iTunes Match. Will it let me upload it? Or will it not because the CD comes from a different country? I'm sure I've heard something like that, but I'm not 100% sure. Can anyone confirm?
@MadridLad91 The music you downloaded will be yours but the matching and backup service will be disabled. So you'd have all that stuff but no new stuff will be added.
So. Let me get this straight. Once I upload all my songs to the cloud, I can then delete them off of my main MacBook, but still be able to access them without taking up the space on my computer?
Or does it have to be on your main machine?
My last question is one that I can't find the answer to anywhere. Does it replace all of your songs that are at a lower quality, and replace them with the iTunes version on your main computer, or just when you stream from an iOS device?
What will the quality of the music when you download it from cloud? Will it be in the iTunes plus rate or in 128kbps? And what will happen to those downloaded files if you stop using the service?
What I'm worried about is explicit music. I don't want to pay for iTunes Match just for any of my explicit music not purchased from iTunes to be changed to clean versions. Any word on this?
this would keep you from buying a more expensive iPhone or iPod touch. you may have 50Gb of music on your computer but your iPod touch only holds 8gb. before you would have to pick and choose what you want on the iPod cause you couldn't fit much. With this service you now have access to all your music cause it will stream it to your device. It would also free up space on your touch for more apps and stuff
It's just $24.99 PER YEAR!!!, That's for the iTunes Match service. A service to Match the songs in your library that you didn't get from iTunes. If your music is from iTunes, you don't have to pay for this service. All the music you get from iTunes you can download it as many times as you want to any of your devices even if you delete it from you main computer.
I still think that the POGOPlug system is a better deal for me. I don't buy my music from iTunes and I love the ability to stream, share, view, and download all of my files, music, and videos to anyone on nearly any device. All for $30 flat. Am I missing something?
Lets say you already synced your iTunes with the cloud, and then you rip a new CD to your comp, do you have to do something to get the new album up in the cloud, or is your music automatically updated from then on? if not is there any chance you could do a video showing what happens. Thanks!!!
That is pretty cool! At my school, they have school issued laptops, iTunes is not blocked and iTunes Store is not blocked either. Do you think that I would still be able to stream my music from there?
Hey guys can you check out my videos? I'm just starting out, I do app reviews but with a little bit of comedy added onto them! Please check'em out and tell me what you think!
itunes should really take care of their customers more. my entire music library has just deleted and i have no idea were i can download it again. it says "buy again" has this happen to some of you guys? they should make should make a program where you can see all your artist and downloaded items.
@ku42 They already have this. Open iTunes, click on the iTunes Store, click on your Account Name in the upper right in the black bar at the top. Sign in...then on your account page look for the section called "Purchase History"....Done.
@Rayver09 It's only free while it's in Beta. Once it leaves beta, they will start charging for it. They just haven't announced their pricing plans yet.
@Rayver09 Except it takes FOREVER to upload all your music with Google Music (I know, I am currently using it) and when it stops being free, who knows how much it will cost? Also, unlike iTunes Match, Google does not upgrade the quality of my existing songs with songs on their server.
@metalhaze that's true, uploading with Google Music is VERY long. But I'm sure Google's gonna improve that.
About the quality, well, 256kbps is not optimum, most of my music is at 320kbps. And I'm sure most people have their music in 320kbps, otherwise it just means they don't mind about the quality.
I had a problem recently where I tried to upload my music to the amazon cloud service before reinstalling windows on my computer. What I didn't know beforehand was how much of a pain in the *** it would be. I got download errors AND I had to manually download every song. I gave up due to the 4-5 gbs of music I had in the cloud and opted for an ipod to pc program. If I'm ever in a situation like this again, will Icloud have an option to download all of my music from the cloud to my pc at once?
@stevecmtl If you point your iTunes Music library to your music folder on your NAS, then yes. iTunes is the gatekeeper. You have to use it to use this service.
@blu4mp5 Spotify is free. My point is Apple is charging when others arent. Fuck the iPad at this point there are better devices or others that work just as well and can get the job done.
@LoeserRealty Spotify is free with listening limits and ads. That sounds like complete shit to me.
Google Music will start charging in the future once it's out of beta. Amazon Music is also charging for their music service as well.
Spotify is free because you are only able to listen to the music that THEY let you listen to. Guess what Spotify DOESN'T have? My entire Metallica collection.
Itunes Match is worth it to not have ads & have unlimited access to my 13,000 songs
Thats horse shit! Big chunky smelly horse shit! $25 eat me! $25 for iMatch, $20 for the extra iCloud, $500 for the new iPad, the price for using spotify = FREE!!
@LoeserRealty iCloud's basic 5GB plan is free. iTunes Match is $25 bucks a year which equates to $2.08 dollars a month. (CHEAPER THAN SPOTIFY'S MONTHLY PAYMENTS) And you don't need an iPad to use the service. You can use it on any PC that has iTunes installed.
What about "play count" and "ratings"? Will that be synced? But nice to see that iTunes Match is also a streaming service. Cause I wasn't sure if iCloud could stream and was doubting between iCloud and Google Music. But thanks to this video I now know that Apple will stream our music library. That makes using iTunes Match a no-brainer. I really hope the service will include "play count" and "ratings" syncing.
@AlterRevolution Furthermore, what about your own "personal touch". With this I mean: comments, song name, artist name, lyrics, artwork, etc? I know that iTunes Match will make it that your ripped song is replaced with the iTunes version, but will it replace everything including your "personal touch"?
I wanted to know if you change a rating in one place would it get updated on the server. When downloaded on a new machine will it remember what you rated the song?
In the video, he says the subscription is monthly, which is incorrect, Apple will be providing the service for a yearly fee, not monthly. (so that is 1x $US24.99 per year, not 12x $US24.99 per year).
@xploraiswakco I noticed that too — video was well-done up until that point. He really needs to edit that video and reupload. It's at the very end... he says "25 a month" -- it's per $25, dude!!
@MacintoshUser1986 Not sure yet, but it seems if you delete it from all your iTunes libraries, it will be removed from iTunes. Conceptually that's how it should work, but we'll have to see.
@wwwinsanelygreatmac hey are you already beta testing it? cause i am and its buggy, ive tried like 10 times for itunes match to recognize my 1200 song library and it just restarts again and again making my itunes match first experience suck... is this happing to you as well?
It's nice that they have both streaming and downloading. Right now I have space for music, but if I run out, it's good to know that I don't need any disc space for those files.
Once I do a year of iTunes Match, and then I cancel, will the stuff I already loaded to the cloud dissapear or be downgraded to a lower/original quality? I just want to know if I do this as a one time thing, what will happen if I cancel?
@jon61089 except you have to upload your entire library to Google Music. My library is eleven gigabytes. Also, iTunes Match can provide higher quality songs than what one might download illegally.
Still think your video needs to make it clearer that you don't need to pay the subscription for iTunes Match to access any songs bought through iTunes via iCloud for free.
My understanding was that iTunes match was for those songs that you didn't buy from iTunes. All songs bought through iTunes are automatically available through iCloud without the $24.99 subscription?
@amjid300 In a round-about way, it should be. You can re-download iTunes music purchases via the Purchases tab in iOS. Match though looks like everything is right in your music library, so it seems seamless. In fact, you don't even sync music with iTunes anymore.
@amjid300 You can't STREAM your music with iCloud. You have to first download it to any device you want it on first before listening to it. THAT is the main difference.
@2009karim1 Are you paying attention? iCloud and iTunes Match are two different things. With iCloud, you cannot STREAM the songs. You have to download them first. And unlike iTunes Match, with iCloud, you only have access to the song you bought from the iTunes store....NOT all the songs you ripped to your computer or downloaded illegally. Those songs can only be streams with iTunes Match.
@hpdv74060us You might think so, but think of the facts.
iTunes match samples your existing music and lets you stream it from iTunes in 256kbs quality, even if the original song was lower quality than that. Plus, unlike any other service, you DON'T have to upload your own songs. For people like me, uploading and organizing your entire music library would eat my bandwidth and the time of an entire day.
@rockgodfather This is cheaper than Spotify. iTunes Match is $2.08 a month. Spotify is 4.99 or 9.99 a month. And don't even try to tell me that their shit ass free service with ads and listening limits is somehow "good" compared to this, hahaha

@hpdv74060us No need to upload it to the cloud if it's already there.

@wwwinsanelygreatmac It can upload music they don't have to the cloud.

@hpdv74060us But it will if you have something that's not on iTunes.

rockgodfather 6 months ago
@rockgodfather This is cheaper than Spotify. iTunes Match is $2.08 a month. Spotify is 4.99 or 9.99 a month. And don't even try to tell me that their shit ass free service with ads and listening limits is somehow "good" compared to this, hahaha
metalhaze 6 months ago
You said $25 a month at the end. xD
Still very insightful on how match would work when it comes out.
