Anyone knows how to add custom stuff to this game(I believe its called a hak pack)? Downloaded few prestige classes and various other stuff but I don't know how to "put it into" the game...
Oh, darn it. I started playing as a monk yesterday because it seemed like an interesting class. Since I usually play magic users, I thought it would be nice to try a melee class. Got killed by a low level kobold, haha. I'm still a noob I guess. Good that I didn't have time to get far. After watching your videos, I've decided to play as a fighter instead. I must admit that it's much more enjoyable than a monk. And it's also nice to wear armour and weapons for once, haha.
I had to restart the game playing as a monk... I don't remember the specifics... But at one point you reach an enemy you can't kill unless you have a pair of gloves that do magical damage, and there was no way to go back to get a pair. Think that was in an expansion tho... So yea. Plus, I was super squishy, and most battles at that point were won by re-loading until a wanted battle outcome happened. Not very fun for role-playing. (When my ranger reached the same place she flew past it w/o trbl)
Monks are pretty hard to play unless you know what you're doing and manage to get to the epic levels. If you're good with them, however, you can one-hit everything. And I do mean *everything*.
To be honest I don't have any clue about the whole D&D rules and mechanics I just treat these games as a typical hack and slash games LOL, any pointers or tutorials to better understand these rules? anybody?
@Dfrosty1987 Try NwN Wiki for NwN1, NwN2 Wiki for NwN2 and DnD Wiki for DnD. They have everything you will need about the rules of the games and basic DnD.
@DWTerminator things like the Int modifiers and the saves, for example fortitude saves, reflex saves here I'll give you an example ---> fortitude save vs negative energy: *success*:(16+39=55 vs. DC 24) that whole things
@Tiars666tiamat ok so the modifiers apply the same concept to intelligence, wisdom and so on too right? and also these random chances(1d20) their main roles are to boost the Saves effectiveness? sorry for being a noob LOL ;)
To help you out a bit on the terminology here: the "#dx" system basically means "#" of rolls of the "a-sided die (d)." So, 1d20 would mean "one roll of the 20-sided die."
As for saves, there are bonuses to them as well, yes. These are based mostly on your attributes and skills, though some classes have built-in modifiers for them.
@Dfrosty1987 Intelligence boosts Wizard's spell Difficulty Class (how hard it is to avoid their effects) and Wisdom affects Cleric & Druid spell DC likewise.
Let's say Wizard with 14 INT casts a 3rd level spell, Spell DC is determined as following:
Rogues can do a lot damage in melee combat long as enemies aren't targeting them, Sneak Attacks can really put a dent on your opponent's health and with Hide in Plain Sight (Shadowdancer only feat) they almost get OPed.
Tumble & Spellcraft have nifty bonuses, for every 5 points your Dodge AC (Tumble) goe up by one & with Spellcraft all your saves vs. spells go up by one. Use Magic Device (UMD) also affects what your char can wear, high level rogues can wear Monk robes & boots with high UMD.

You put them in the appropriate folders in your NWN directory. I made a guide on how to do that so I'll PM it to you.

Glad I could help. Monks are certainly *very* hard to play as until you get to the epic levels (which is when they get insanely overpowered).

thx for the tips guys really appreciate it ;) it seems there's more to this game than a typical hack and slash after 1 year playing it LOL
Dfrosty1987 7 months ago
Yeah... D&D RPG's are far from being "just hack n' slashes." The underlying complexity is far more than any hack n' slash game out there.

A rather good thing about the video games is that you don't really need to understand the rules to play them.
As for getting to understand them... what're you specifically having trouble with?

@Dfrosty1987 Modifiers are the bonuses for every two ability points.
For ex.
STR 10 = 0 Bonus
STR 12 = +1
STR 14 = +2
etc Same for negative.
A Fighter with 16 STR has +3 STR modifier and gets +3 to Attack (to hit) and +3 Damage.
Saves are your resistances against effects that target the body (Fortitude), reflexes (reflex) and mind (will).
"16+39=55 vs. DC 24" means you roll 1-20 (1d20 = random chance) + your Fortitude Save (39) against the power of the effect (DC 24).

@Dfrosty1987 Don't worry everyone's a noob in the beginning, I myself knew NOTHING about DnD and learned everything from NwN1 and 2.
Yeah it's the same for all ability scores. They give bonuses depending on each score.
The 1d20 roll is random chance about most things (attack rolls, saves etc)
A 1 is always a miss and 20 is always a hit or critical.
A great warrior has a small chance to miss with an attack (rolls 1 for ex).
A clumsy mage might survive a lethal trap (rolls 20) etc

@Dfrosty1987 Intelligence boosts Wizard's spell Difficulty Class (how hard it is to avoid their effects) and Wisdom affects Cleric & Druid spell DC likewise.
Let's say Wizard with 14 INT casts a 3rd level spell, Spell DC is determined as following:
10 (base DC) + 3 (Spell Level) + 2 (Modifier) = DC 15
Another Wizard with 18 INT (+4 modifier) casts same spell:
10 + 3 + 4 = DC 17
Higher DC = higher chance that enemy fails their Saves.

Monks shtick is that they are the best Mage Killers.
All saves are high so they can resist most spells and they get Evasion/Improved Evasion to minimize damage from Reflex spells and traps.
They get spell resistance that keeps going up.
Their speed is insane and with Hide/Move Silently, they can sneak up fast to a mage.
Attack hard and fast especially with Flurry, so they can disrupt Mages.
They get Stunning Fist and Quivering Palm which target Fortitude.
And Improved Knockdown to trip Mages.

At level 40 they can also take down level 40 *anything* with one or two hits. It's pretty absurd.
