I read in Mark Vail's "vintage synthesizer" book, that the ADD One and other samplers by Dynacord of that time,
were designed by Marcus Ryle and Michael Doidic - they are known because they were with Oberheim at it's "Matrix" era, and also they helped in the design of Alesis ADAT.
@moremojo030 The internal sounds are samples . I can't remember what there are exaclty. I think 5 snares, 5 kicks, a few hihats, 10 toms etc... something like that
I can't say why but it just seems like a special unit. Like the other 12 bit greats the sp and studio 440. I mean curtis chips are known to be brassy. Thats gotta sound great on drums.
I too have one, but am desperately looking for a manual. Pretty straightforward machine really, but I bet there's more to it than I have already discovered.
It's very easy to sample with really. You press rec on the sample add on and it has a few pages for setting length, threshold etc etc, but pretty simple.
The sounds are placed automatically in whichever channel of the Add One you specify.
I think it has 768k of memory and you can choose 50k or 25k sample rate I think.
ok one last question the floppy drive do you need to format the floppies at all and if so does it format for or do you need a program to format it and if so what program
Prince used this during LoveSexy and Batman

are these sampled drums or internal sounds ?
moremojo030 1 year ago
@moremojo030 Hi there
These sounds are in the machine when you boot it up. Basically they are samples stored in ROM..
With the add drive you can sample your own or load library sounds..

At 1:57, it reminded me of those drums on the NBA JAM TE soundtrack for the Super Nintendo back then. Great sounding sampler!

oh and do you use a midi cable to connect the add drive to the add one thanks
crazyforfood 4 years ago
Hi
There is a hole on the front where you can put some disks. Is that what you mean?
No, it's not a midi cable. I think it is 7 pin. I can check next time I am in the studio

16 Bits? How many cash for this treasure?
funkberto 4 years ago 2
The Sampling is 12 bit (50khz rate)
If you can find one, maybe $500-$1000. Something like that!
buchla300 4 years ago
ok what about the xlr cable could i record something through there and mess with that
thanks
crazyforfood 4 years ago
Yes, the XLR is the mic input for the sampling section. You sample your sound and it is then one of the samples that can be processed.
buchla300 4 years ago
do you need disks for different sounds or are there sounds locked and loaded on there as it is
crazyforfood 4 years ago
There are sounds in it's ROM (including waveforms like sawtooth and noise etc) but you can load or sample your own via the sample/disk option.
buchla300 4 years ago
So this has trigger ins?
sleestack 4 years ago
Yes. It has 8 trigger inputs plus 2 voltage control inputs and Midi
