  • Very creative. Would have been nice to see how you cut the door

  • What did you use to cut the doors into it? They look seemless.

  • How much did it weigh to start with and how much when you were done?

  • @MrLeonard55

Sorry for the slow reply. The vase weighs about 60lbs now, I didnt weigh it before.

  • Pretty cool.

  • I think this is an incredibly dangerous way to rough out a segmented turning . Cutting the outside of the segments round on a bandsaw does not take that long. I often turn segmented pieces of wood up to 5 foot diameter and ALWAYS cut them round where they will be turned. Large turnings can be dangerous at the best of times without the added danger of a chainsaw at face level

  • @TheJNewman Soooo? why don't you post some vid or pictures?

  • Crazy cool.. I love it.. Great job and thanks for posting!

  • Love the work. I cannot stop thinking about the segments and how I will be building them. I am going to be turning much smaller pieces but it is fantastic to know that I don't have to find a bigger stump to make a bigger piece.

  • hey what kind of wood dud you use ?

  • @andredoggy Redwood

  • Is that a custom build lathe? Did you buil it yourself?

  • what type of wood did you use?

  • this vase is finished with oil base polyurethane.

  • what kind of glue did you use ?

  • @andredoggy

    I used Titebond III

  • @spoli4 that would be the water proof one right so what do you use as ur finish ? o and ur insperation to me i am going to make sumthing like that

  • You seriously need to make more videos. i found your website to be lacking in the showing off of your work.. SHOW IT OFF MAN

  • Wow, how proud any one would be to have work like this. I have several small pieces that an elderly gentleman made years ago. Such skill and thank you for posting this one.

  • Muy Bueno Espectacular, podria informarme sobre el tema musical?

  • I was wondering where the tool rest was and then out comes the chainsaw! Who knew wood turning could be so HARDCORE!

  • One word. WOW

  • i saw the chain saw and my eyes blew up i thought it was a joke at first

  • Ha!....If I win the lotto, I will buy a couple and impress the house guests.....very interesting work...love it..

  • Going to show this to my Dad, who's a woodworker. He will be amazed, I know! Please post more vids!

  • I thought it looked relatively safe.

    Great vid *****

  • don't get me wrong I love the finished product its really really incredible. but the steps you take to get to it are incredibly dangerous and I think its irresponsible to post this and not provide a warning. uninformed people don't realize the dangers of merely turning wood that big much less using a chainsaw to rough it out. hope all goes well with your endeavors.

  • WOW! Very cool and great job on the video to.

    Thanks

  • this is really cool... i think about the only other thing you could do to make it any better is to figure out a way to support the turning without the tailstock so you can hollow it out and thin the walls. that would be truely remarkable if you could solve that little engineering problem.

perhaps a multi-point roller setup, like the rests for metal lathes when working with long, thin pieces. hmm... i got myself thinking now. haha.

  • UNREAL!

  • More! please

  • Steve, that is brilliant, you certainly use your brain and not your back to get things done, VERY cool!

Thanks for sharing your art with us!

    Cheers!

  • What a wonderful production! Thanks for posting!
