No? Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner to be a Poem (He didn't even consider it the Star Spangled Banner, and it was 5 times longer than the song we know) it wasn't the Official National Anthem until 1931 and they only sang it to the tune of The Anacreon Song after the War of 1812 was over...
@Iceman5164 Interestingly (well, at least to me), while he did write it as a poem rather than a song, Francis Scott Key likely did intentionally write it to match "The Anacreon Song's" meter. He had already written one song--"When the Warrior Returns," about the First Barbary War--that he did knowingly set to this song's tune.
@gerounderhill YES! I was hoping to find a version by O.A.T. or by The Sons of Anacreon here on youtube. Sadly, it seems I shall fail in this quest at this point in time. :-( (Please let me know if I can find it elsewhere! ;-) )
You mean the Star Spangled Banner sounds like it... Francis Scott Key intended it to be just a Poem, than they gave it some Rhythm (Anacreon Song) etc. etc.
wow, just wow.

First MANY years ago heard this performed by Oak, Ash, and Thorn. This just isn't the same. WAY to operatic. it is a drinking song.
