  • Was there really an orc named Gothmog in Tolkien's book? There was balrog named Gothmog.

  • @67nairb

I think Jackson made up the Gothmog in the films. But yeah you're right Gothmog was lord of the Balrog's

  • @Agnes135 Gothmog however was not the same Balrog who did battle with Gandalf on the Bridge of Khaza-dum.

  • @67nairb

I know, Gothmog was killed many centuries before the Lord of the Rings even took place.

  • @Agnes135 I know that. Perhaps he was the father of all the Balrogs.

  • @67nairb There was a short mention of Gothmog in relation to the battle of Osgiliath I think.

  • @tvpnbb So he had no participation in the Battle of Pelannor Fields?

  • @67nairb Maybe he did, Tolkien did not mention him in that context, but he did not state that he did not participate. He was in any case mentioned just once.

  • @tvpnbb Well even if he didn't participate it doesn't matter. Gothmog did a great job in the RETURN OF THE KING. Many dyed-in-the-wool LOTR fans though criticized Peter Jackson for straying too far from Tolkien's book.

  • "Call forth Sarah Palin and do not stop the attack until the city is religious, kill all the atheists and release Christine O'Donnell as the ultimate Priestess "

    __

  • HAHAHAHAH x'D

  • and Obama is Grishnakh....but he thinks he's Sauron

  • QUE BOSTA MAIS RALADA!!!!!!!

  • hes not fucking gothmog

  • GOTHMOG was the name for the lord of the Balrogs, yes, but it ws also a name of the orc-like-creature, his title was: Lieutenant of Morgul

  • @Saromin1 I didnt know that. So in the book was there a lot of balrogs?

  • no, not in LOTR... but orriginally, yes, there was. at the beggining of Arda (The world where Middle-Earth is) there was trillions of these creatures roaming the world, and then the Oceans came and stuff like that... but the Balrog for LOTR hid in Moria to suvive.

  • @Saromin1 O ok that makes sense. The thing that I didnt understand is how they were killed. But I get it now thanks.

  • @Saromin1 I have another question, what happened to the rest of orcs at the end of return of the king. I even watched the extended version and they didnt show what happened. I did see the earth behind the good guys collapse so is that what happened to the rest of the orcs?

  • at the end of the war of the ring (Return of the King) the ring was destroyed, and all orcs fell under-ground with the Earthquake. with them came the Trolls, Nazguls (<- they got hit my fireballs from Mount Doom) and most of the other creatures created by Sauron or Melkor.

  • @Saromin1 o ok I was just wondering thanks. So only the monster close by Mount Doom were killed?

  • Yea, I think so... but then again: all ohers scattered without thair Master, and then eventually got killed by Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, or Hobbits

  • @nauticabinx you really need to think of the orcs as a people they dident all just "die out" along with sauron, they prolly fled and hid somewhere underground. the Silmarillion explains how the orcs did that once before, with saurons old master (melkor). all that was before LotR

  • No, no, no.

Melkor created the balrogs from tortured souls of elves. There were hundreds, maybe thousands, but never trillions.

  • @TheRoopeKonna no. balrogs werent elvesthey were elemental spirits like Sauron (a Maia) the exavt name for them is escaping me atm and idont wanna get the silmarillion out... valakari or some shit

  • @nastrael

    Valaraukar?

  • gothmog wasnt that orc , gothmog is the lord of the belrogs, he was all so a servent of morgoth like sauron and was abit stronger too..

  • no he wasnt

  • GOTHMOG, was the name of The Lord of the Balrogs, AND the Lieutenant of Morgul. and no, the second one mentioned WAS NOT an Orc, he was just an Orc-Like Creature

  • Actually, gothmog was an orc. There weren't anything "orc-like creature" in middle-earth. Everything "orc-like" were orcs or the same race but just another tribe. Orcs lived in tribes, that's in the book.

  • yeah man.. so awesome vid haha

    cant stop laughin

  • its true!! both are minons of Darkness!!!

  • Man, that is so not Gothmog.

  • @ronocdh

it is :p there are 2 gothmogs:

the first is the lord of the balrogs

and the second is the lieutenant of mordor (an ugly ass orc)

  • Gothmog actually was the name for the lord of the balrogs.

  • "The age of Men is Over"

said McCain when he became president.

  • @KaiserCommander

The age of the Democrat is over.

The time of the Republican... has come.

  • no gothmog is in the book the leader (next to the witch king) of the army of orcs and it's not given what he is. So Peter Jackson made a sponge-orc of him :D
