All this happens for a reason. So maybe Henry meeting Anne Boleyn was meant to be. Who knows the world would be a different place if that had not happened.
the showtime show the tudors just drives me crazy cause its just a tv drama and not based on fact and the sad thing is so many people who knew nothing of the history before are thinking they are learning somthing when in fact they learning alot of clever scripted plots of facts twisted around to make the show more entertaining. I was so disappointed. Any true history buff will watch the show and scream at the tv correcting what they messed up so bad
@lids554 obly if you enjoy made for tv drama and false history Please don't tell me you belive the show as to be what truely happened! So many characters are based o few differnt people that they decided to combine into one person and make some crazy story about there life
it is not wise to believe what was told in tv dramas was true. but there is nothing wrong of creating characters basing on the true historical personnages. after all, that is literature was all about
@saygoodbyetofate I voice an opinion that you do not agree with and i am replied by being insulted instead of you sharing your idea . That makes you IGNORANT.
@misteeq64 That very common misconception manages to ignore all the myriad factors and feelings behind the Reform and counter-Reform movements. There was a LOT more to it than that.
@misteeq64 If Katherine of Aragon had had a surviving son, the divorce never would have happened. He had plenty of affairs before Anne and probably after, too. Anne was only allowed to take it as far as she did because Henry was becoming desperate for a male heir; otherwise, I doubt she would've lived long after even daring to suggest that he make her his wife while he was still married. It would've been treason.
@kendahke This is a question for sixteenth century constitutionalists (if there are any) but I think that Henry had no right to disinherit anyone from the royal line. In any case James VI did come from that line - so someone thought the same as I.
@Puddleduck42 Whereas I accept the claim of Henry's father was tenious I do not accept the argument about him being desperate for an heir - he had even been indirectly responsible for killing another person who may have provided (and also indirectly did) this heir - the King of Scotland. I think it was just an excuse to dump Katherine for a newer model - although I accept your argument that he had plenty on the side anyway.
@Puddleduck42 True; if he'd never met Anne Boleyn, he would have found someone else. He wanted a son. He'd fathered a son with Bessie Blount. Therefore, in his eyes (and a LOT of other men) there was something wrong with KATHERINE. Therefore, his marriage to her was wrong. She wasn't the FIRST wife tossed aside for not giving her husband a son and heir. If the Pope hadn't been afraid of Katherine's family; he likely would have told Henry, "You're right!" and annulled the marriage.
@misteeq64 I don't blame her. Henry and Woosley destroyed her match with Henry Percy behind her back. Her only treasure was her virginity and she needed that to make an advantageous marriage. Being Henry's whore would have reduced her worth, as it had her sister.
@misteeq64 guess it was a good thing considering so great a queen was born who ruled like a man and is still remembered today and even being called England's greatest monarch
Actually, Martin Luther is responsible for the development of the Protestant faith. Although Henry the VIII did break with the Pope to marry Anne, he, himself, did not accept the reformed faith, and actually persecuted those who did. He was basically a hypocrite. HIS church/faith was essentially the same as the Catholic, except that Henry was in charge instead of the Pope. I.E., Anglican church, which is not Protestant. So, he really didn't change anything himself. He burnt heretics.
@MarylandGurl if you are referring to the gorgeous melody that starts at 3:41, its Shakespearean sonnet 87, "Farewell! thou art too dear for my possessing". I love the arrangement in the background, the credits suggest its the BBC orchestra. Does anybody know for certain?
If your talking about Elizabeth I am pretty sure she had a affiar with a guy named...Robert Dudly? idk in the movies it always says that and it briefly mentions it in the Encyclopedia. Now if your talking about Mary, she was married like 3 times. I'm pretty sure her fav was her 1st one I personally think, cause they were very close friends even b4 their marriage. Hope this helps :)
Elizabeth probably fell deeply in love with Robert Dudley, and she almost married the Duke of Anjou at one point. She probably loved him as well, but then she backed out of the match, partly because her people didn't like the idea of a French catholic husband for their Queen.
it was the times. conspiracies and paranoia were everywhere. plus add in the crooked men who made a living thinking of ways to kill, but without anyone suspecting the queen herself. Elizabeth was a great queen. Mary was most likely a great leader too. But, mary got herself into LOVE wars. She was a mother, lover and catholic first. Politition after.

@misteeq64 Mary was the legal heir.
alanheath 11 months ago
@alanheath Henry's will disinherited all of margaret's progeny, so by law in England, mary wasn't a legal heir.

@misteeq64 There are many reasons why Henry thought that a female couldn't be heir to throne of England.
1. The tudor line would end, and any heirs of mary's would be considered of the house of her husband.
2. If she married foreign royalty (which she ultimately did) he believed England would be under foreign rule.
3. Historically, the last woman to rule ended in disaster. (Matilda)
