I believe I had the same problem. The laser on mine was out of position... Thought something was odd...wasn't sure what to do until I came across your video. Thank you very much! However, after a little over a year, my 360 is dying. It doesn't play certain game discs right away, e.g. Mortal Kombat...for me. It's like the thing has to warm up by playing some games before it plays others. + it makes a funny noise. Also it lags a little & sticks/freezes at the start of some games. XBOX 360 = Trap

it may be possible... I was playing RDRUN and at a point between McFarlen's and Armadillo the game wasn't loaded so I was going under the map with my horse and I tried to move without the horse but I was standing there...then I turned the 360 off put another game (I tried like 5 games) and nothing... It may be dust (my 360 is kinda dusty idk why) or this problem in the video...also when the reader tries to read the Dvd it makes a sound like loading x2 then a 'puuuh'

@nTech1995 well RDR as much as i love it always has bugs. but trying 5 different games definitely proved your problem. I think it is the dust too becase i havent dusted the inside of my xbox ever and ive had it for almost 20 months. i look inside and its always dusty.

Bought Skyrim. Few days later, my xbox goes haywire on me (for like, the 3 third time). I had no knowledge of how to repair/ take apart a xbox. After watching a tutorial, I was able to get to my disc drive and this was exactly the problem. I just had to slide it back into place and my xbox started working perfectly.

Don't waste your money paying MS to repair your game. Even if you even a new laser, it only costs like $6 on Amazon.

see the 2 screws, above the tan piece with the white circuit tap looking thing...well those 2 screws need to be tweaked, put a flat head in them at 12 and 6 o clock, and bring it back to 9 n 3...so turn it to the left...I fixed 3 xbox's with that...and later I'll fix another

It gets stuck because it's not sliding well. grease up the two metal rails and the spiral gold rail that controls the motor. Also, the whole, turning your xbox off when it's open" is wrong, because when it's open the laser drops down so it isn't damaged by the tray. It's not even possible for it to move back to the back.

Mine had this same problem, but wasn't stuck in the back. All i did was clean my laser, put vaseline on the gold spiral rail and put machine oil on the silver metal rails.

If your 360 was reading games at first then gradually began giving you the"open tray"while disc is in message. Open up 360. Then open up disc tray. Screws are underneath. Determine the position of your laser when opening.Plug up and insert disc. Close tray. If moving laser shoots the red beam at your disc and doesnt roll back then your problem is probably the lense being dirty rather than than the lense rolling so far back that its not reading discs. I cleaned mine(lense) w/windex every GM WORK

Quick fix - sounds bad but it actually works. If you take your Xbox and drop it from about 6 inches up onto a soft surface (so it doesn't get hurt!) face down onto the faceplate, it will nudge the laser back down to where it should be without the Xbox needing to be opened up. Obviously take the disc out. I had this problem occur 5 minutes after putting in my new copy of COD MW2 and I was SO mad because I was so excited. Found out this way to fix it and I had it going again in around 5 minutes!

lol dude wtf =)))) maybe your xbox has that kinda wron laser but normally when you put a DVD in your ODD the laser automatically is returning to the starting position (near the spinning wheel) so i think your laser moving machanism is damaged or memory or smthing like that =)))

p.s. I don't think that anyone will disassemble the xbox and return the laser to the starting position if that problem appears time by time xD so it's kinda lame :D but thumbs up for your effort :D
