  • hhaaaa:) perfect sound & clip

  • i live in portsmouth yay

  • Love this...

  • He is a Pompey Lad ..,.,wonderful

  • Classic song Pompey til i die

  • Alan Partridge loves this but so do I.

  • I was NOT tapping my foot !

  • @MrTarryhoot yes you were...................

  • @ab240867 Well maybe a bit.

  • The lady with the straight black hair (seen at 48 seconds) is v-e-r-y beautiful.

  • @BedsitBob totally agree...!!!!

  • @BedsitBob I see your point, but they are all very beautiful especially the one with the pig tails!!!

  • I wish I was dressed as Alan Partridge right now. I have a pint of shandy in one hand, and in the other hand . . . nothing. It would be sloshing all over my new tanned brogues. I'd light a fire in my ample sized garden. Make an effigy of Tony Hayers and Sue Cook making love. Then I'd burn the ruddy pair of them in very rude funeral pyre. Kiss my face.

  • too bads its not in HD

  • Your video is popular on Chisinau

  • Where is the 'I love this' button? :)

  • This is one very "scary" video. =p

  • @russmassey615 You have a right to be scared, I think they're reated to MORRIS DANCERS, ARRGGGGHHHH !

get up to the Roundhouse on the cliff top standing, take women and children and bed them down.

    Bring me my Broardsword !

    this is gonna get UGLY.

  • I remember seeing this on Top of the Pops in the mid 70s and thinking what I would like to do to all the dancers, bearing in mind I was at school and in my teens. They made me feel weird in a nice way just watching them. Funny how the passage of time doesn't stop that feeling of me wanting to bang them silly!!

  • I was too lazy to look at ALL the comments to see if anyone else had picked up that the hand positions of the dancers are wrong at about 1:41. The editor should have picked this up.

Mind you, I only got it after watching on youTube and not all this times this was used as a filler on the ABC.

  • @alternateroute u are wrong. Choreographer wanna be.

  • @alternateroute Can you clarify ?, I think i know, but I'm not going to say yet

  • this is a lovely song from a genious! ^^~

  • Oldfield is a Master....

  • Heard this yesterday at Fratton Park, love it!

  • have you heard the remix?

listen to it ONCE and yhou won't a second time!

    it is too fast.

    THIS IS THE PROPER VERSION.

I HAVE seen people in ceili clubs in southern ireland do a jig in time to this version. oh, that was all those years ago.

  • A Song that even cheared me up Amazing :-O

  • Absolutely LOVE this song& video is amazing - even though it is an essentially English naval sea shanty

  • Comment removed

  • He looks rather bored!

  • nice song! Oldfield is a hero

  • how can i get that girl i fancied in school to dance for me barefoot, waiving a hankie whilst wearing pig tails?

    i have a cunning plan.

  • In reply to JBSouthsea, thanks for that info. I always loved this song, but thought it was a Victorian-era sea shanty. I had no idea he wrote it. Also, all those girls are over-the-top sexy, especially Debbie Jenner - the blonde with the curlier hair. Ya can't blame Mike for doing what he seems to be doing at at 00:52 / 2:01 I would take them all out for a burger and fries anytime. :-)

  • I love playing this song in the car when heading off on a camping adventure. The film clip sure conjures up different thoughts altogether with the purdy smiley dancers.

  • the would all get pumped

  • Mike Oldfield is a WONDERFUL musician who has done really marvellous things with the timeless air of Portsmouth Point, as he has with many an old folk tune. The vid is a brilliant complement to the music.

  • I remember playing this in school...

  • lol he looks so mash up

  • wish i had 4 Morris Dancing girls in my house.

  • Who are the dancers?

  • @BedsitBob

This should ask Oldfield .. Only he knows who he is "who" in his music video))

Most likely, from some national folk-dance ensembles))

  • the extremely attractive blonde girl is called Debbie Jenner and she's on Facebook

  • @BedsitBob Pans people, used to be on Top Of The Pops

  • @spudangles I wasn't asking about Pans People.

I was asking about the four girls doing the Morris Dancing.

  • @BedsitBob The extreme attractive blonde girl is called debbie jenner and she's on Facebook.

  • @BedsitBob They must be Irish women as British women look like the arse end of a lorry mostly.

  • @aeonflux67 you twat

  • @aeonflux67 you win the prize for the most stupid comment I have ever read on youtube (and I have read a lot of comments written by a lot of a-holes). British women are beautiful (on the whole) you w*nker! Clearly you are a proper smart arse aren't you.

  • @johnny2o2o Actually your delusional attempt to defend the women of Britain takes first prize. Go and see an optometrist and travel a bit more.

  • @aeonflux67"Arse" sayes it realy don't it.

  • @tony13a Well thats what a lot of shows (reality, doco and drama) depict of the present day British women. Overweight, gutter talking, feminist, man beating trollops.

  • @BedsitBob Pretty sure it isn't Hot Gossip... : )

  • @kristo68 Quite. Hot Gossip featured Sarah Brightman.

  • so who's playing the tooter? it's the main instrument and he doesn't seem to play....

  • @keef71 the tooter lol. i think mike plays EVERYTHING. i'm not completely sure though

  • @WheelChairBndit Correct,Mike plays everything,but doesnt do the dancing .

  • @garfield2279 lol. well he can only be so talented, right?

  • @garfield2279 Incorrect!! Leslie Penning played the recorder! And he didn't write it - it is an old English folk tune.

  • OMG I did Morris Dancing on Ice to this, a good few years ago at Streatham Ice Rink - Brings back memories, thankfully no one recorded it :)

  • Why Mike Brush The Instrument......It's Cleaned Already......

  • Underapid should be a word as they are so slow (except for money). I meant underpaid. Beneath contempt is a another description but heyho, nothing bad about this tune, tis just FABULOUS!

  • Jerusalem is somewhere south of the M3 more to the tastes of those underapid overworked holidaying politicos. Portsmouth is very close to home. Great posting and fantastic tune. :))))

  • A fitting end to I Partridge!

  • Alan Partridge's memoir led me here.

  • Ahh England,I'll never forget you

  • Mike Oldfield is a modern troubadour.

  • i used to live in portsmouth and i love this song.

  • I remember getting drunk to this in the 70s.

  • He looked such a dude in those days. I wonder if he had his wicked way with any of those dancers ?

  • This song is way too short. I work in a old folkes house and they did there gym practice on this song. Never seen them work so hard.

  • Delightful!

  • Mike Oldfield doesn't seem very enthused.

  • @northrupthebandgeek That's because he is concentrating so hard. He is a very intense performer.

  • Yes, I agree. I think of Frodo and the other hobbits, when I hear this song.

  • wtf is this shit kikee

  • kike morgan

  • Too kitchy-coo sweet - if you've ever heard the crooked, haunting old-time fiddle tune by the same name, your heart would turn over!

  • He didh't try very hard, a bit crap IMO

  • Polk on!! Play up Pompey!

  • Ha Ha Hobbit Music

  • Gonna be in Portsmouth today on the way to New Forest. Just preparing :)

  • just reminds me of being at fratton park! PLAY UP POMPEY!

  • I read his book, titled: "The Changeling" recently......It gives an indepth description of how his troubled upbringing influenced his music.....and how his subsequent success caused him further problems when he was in the spotlight!

  • As a Norwegian, to hear Mike Oldfield and support Portsmouth FC, this is double up!

  • I love it great

  • Mike Oldfield didn't write this! It's a traditional English folk song. His arrangement is nice although I prefer the Spinners' version.

  • Thumbs up if you'd bang like crazy all of the girls in this video while the music is playing in loop!

  • I live in Portsmouth. For what it's worth, this is EXACTLY what Portsmouth is like. Mike Oldfield is actually King of Portsmouth, and he wrote this as his coronation song.

  • @JBSouthsea Are the girls as cute and charming as these four? Got my ticket booked if they are....

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Most of them

  • @JBSouthsea Would be nice to believe there's somewhere in these islands not populated either by souless yuppie airheads or tatoo splattered sub-Jeremy Kyle gargoyles

  • @TomthatiscalledTom Oh we have those too, don't get me wrong. However most do indeed skip around and dance to folk tunes in the same manner as this video.

  • @JBSouthsea i live in portsmouth too and i love this song

  • @JBSouthsea I f I lived in Pompy I wouldn't own up to it !

  • @JBSouthsea You sir, are a genius!

  • @JBSouthsea i live in portsmouth also, great classic song and a great musician

  • @JBSouthsea

Oldfield did not write this, it's a traditional English folk song, check out Ralph Vaughn Williams' Sea Songs which includes it.

Not that it matters, it's a great version by a great musician.

  • Lovely song.

  • Those girls are all grandmothers now.

  • @garfield2279

Yeah, it makes me very sad...

  • mike.. get your hair cut!!

  • Since when was a borong an english drum??????

  • Robbie this is for youxxxx

  • fab footage, taped it off german tv couple of years ago :)

  • Seems 4 people on the site are either brain dead or tone death!! Richard Branson certainly saw great talent in him at an early age - need i say any more?

  • it's a traditional English folk dance, that's why. Middle Earth was based on saxon England.

  • @azw409 Since was a borong an english drum??????

  • Очаровательно, чёрт возьми!!!

  • medieval!

  • Play up Pompey!

  • @pompey82 PFC !!!!!!

  • mike oldfield used 6 months on making 1 song, played 47 difrent instruments, one at the time he recorded it and laid a new instrument over the when the song was done he had an awsome song, only played by him, on all instruments, see thats talent, ,

  • @gunnerthedenmark Right, except that the recorder was played by Leslie Penning.

  • Hitler dance at 0:35

  • Ich weiß nicht. Nur Ficken mit dem Kerl.

  • 4 people are Justin Bieber incarnates.

  • QUE MIEDOO ME DAA pero buen ritmooo jajajaja xD

  • Mike Oldfield is amazingly talented and hot! The girls are beautiful - natural hair and beauty, unlike the junk people slap on their faces and hair these days.

  • I LOVE PORTSMOUTH

  • but it's not multicultural

  • George Harrison Live!

  • I think this sounds like a Hobbit song. You know From Lord of The Rings. They could all dance to it in the shire :')

  • @jendoc101 its typical english / irish, its also what the hobbits are built over, irish people so to speak

  • @jendoc101 i agree. It was my first think when I hear first seconds of this melody :)

  • Beautiful tune and beautiful girls, too!

    tac

  • Can't stop listening to it :) Greetings from Split, Croatia.

  • Great to hear again. may use this tune in our morris dancing class:)

  • pan de centeno untado con mantequilla ! mmmmmmmm!

  • 0:37 I love this Norse symbol

  • 0:37 I love this Norse symbol

  • 0:37 I love this Norse symbol

  • eat only grains figs eggs milk and oil saved

    cod liver

  • a new song by him sung by rebecca skye

  • The quality of Mike Oldfield's music and performances rests on the fact that he is both the composer and, the player of most, if not all, the instruments. He doesn't have the problem of trying to explain to a group of musicians exactly what sound he trying to achieve. A similar principle is behind the genius of Rick Wakeman's work.

  • A wonderful talent. Lovely dancers as well. ;)

  • LOL JUST LOL he did this for pompey haha l

  • Anyone else in Australia remember in the 70's and 80's when the ABC used clips like this as filler if a show finished early?

Another popular one was the Roger Glover/Ronnie James Dio track "Butterfly Ball".

  • @pandaeyes42 Yep! I remember both those. I actually spent a bit of time tracking them down on the net a few years ago. I knew the Dio/Glover one already but wasn't sure of the name of this one.

  • los videos que realmente valen la pena verlos y pocos musicos como mike olfield!!

  • @peachromero yep and another was music box dancer by frank mills and love is all by ronnie james dio

  • mike oldfoeld is one of the gratest musical masters of the 20th & 21st century!

  • sooo good.

  • mouth closed means no interest in these women :)

  • diantre l ami vous me la baillez belle!!!

  • Pretty girls and a cool song and warm brandy. Not bad,not bad at all.

  • Kitchissime : j'adore ! Cette musique traditionnelle à la sauce Mike Oldfield est un petit bijou, ce clip vidéo est une perle.

  • Ive been searching or this sing for 4 years and now i found it :)

  • @Sacharias1 i was looking for this for years too!!! i love youtube!

  • back in the days when music was easy to listen to

  • Mike Oldfield is a pure genius of a composer!! I have almost all his albums, and this is one of my favourite tracks. I like the way that it starts softly with just one woodwind instrument and then ends in a crescendo!! =)

  • Debbie, what's that style of dancing called? Did you and your friends meet at dance school? The four of you are amazing!

  • Mike - superman! ;)))

  • Shakespeare of rock music:)

  • Genius of a musician, many thanks for posting this, I love it !

  • 好喜歡这首歌

  • Jeez, Oldfield even plays the tambourine better than I ever could...

  • suffering severe depression here, but this always makes me happy, the four dancers are a joy...love you for dancing to this ;00 you are keeping me going ;00

  • It's great, it's magic I love that

  • Brings back lots of great memories... including drunken dancing around the tree at Christmas Time .... Brilliant!!

  • This man is a musical genius!

  • @TheJaking87

    Yes is so!. ;-)

  • @TheJaking87 He is... but I would not base this claim upon watching this particular video:D

  • @TheJaking87 indeed

  • Haha, I love the way Mike just looks so smug playing all those instruments. I know I would! Great tune, hate folk dancing though.

    Boooo to me :-P

  • Likeeeeeeeeee
