  • Girl whn it come to hair you should hve nicely said something! You prob have heat damage. The're students no pros yet, it could hve been his first day. I'm an esthetician & I remember my very first day servicing clients lol needless to say if you dont speak up he will keep doing the same thing next time. Had you spoken up I'm sure he would have understood. Also tipping encourages his bad technique.

  • pleaseeee do a makeup tutorial for this loook :) I love how soft it is .

  • i had that same experience and did exactly what u did except i went to regis salon twice this happened to me but now if i feel like someones not doing a good job i definitely let them know im as nice as i possibly can be but i have to say something and now if im not satisfied they need to get someone who can do my hair or im not paying

  • I had a similar experience.. Smfh but my hair looked not even half as decent as yours.. I went 2 an american beauty school next 2 my house....NEVER AGAIN IN LIFE!

  • oh and someone definitely should've stepped in and asked if you were okay, especially when you literally did your own hair! If it was me I would have guided him through what to do, he is a student after all, he'd have been learning from it. I would only pay for the colouring, nothing else. And he definitely would NOT have gotten a tip!

  • by not complaining about it it makes the student think he's done a good job and he'll probably do it to someone else :( but you're a really lovely, trusting person and that's admirable

  • Girl, I'm so sorry about that but u didn't flip off or get mad or anything to the student u know so that was super nice of u but I would say something to the student and instruct him myself how to wash hair lol. That would be really frustrating for u I know. We have this school where I live and I love going there cause the girls all know how to do ethnic hair, or they will pair be with a girl who does a good job. They do a good job washing and straightening and it looks like exactly how u got u

  • I haven't had an experience like that but my old stylist didnt have respect for my time. I was her client for at least 1.5 yrs. She made me so mad, I walked out and NEVER went back.

  • I agree with everything Msdre122 said. I was a student is cosmetology school just last year (graduated Sept), and if I wasn't shampooing your hair the way you preferred, or straightening it, I'd appreciate you telling me how you'd like it. I understand you not wanting to seem rude or what not, but they're in school for a reason; They have to learn. What you went through is the risk you take going to a school where they're learning to properly provide those services. And the teachers a lot of...

  • @pinkkizzez120 times choose to go ahead & let us do what we're doing unless we ask for the advice or the job we're doing is just WAY off track. Other than that, they're not trying to hold our hands during the process of doing clients hair. Another thing is, you can choose who you want to do your hair. Ask the person that scheduled you who's best at doing your type of hair. Sometimes they just liked to give us people even if we didn't know how to do their hair so that we'd learn and get the...

  • @pinkkizzez120 experience. I definitely appreciate you not minding giving him a tip, because we don't get paid ANYTHING for the work we do, and dish out so much money to attend school. However, don't tip them if you don't feel they deserve it. That's like giving a high school student an A+ on a calculus test they just took when they really got all of the answers wrong. Sorry for such the long response lol, I just wanted you to understand from a student's point of view.

  • Tia. it is unfortunate that you had a n unpleasant experience but that is the risk you take when you go to a cosmetology "school". The people doing your hair are "students" they are there to learn and if you do not speak up they are left to assume that you are pleased with your service. All this commentary should have been shared with your student stylist. Therefore he would learn from his mistakes and an instructor could have assisted in making your experience more to your liking.

  • You got punked, I went to beauty school and I notice a lot of that. You have to say something or they will believe they did it correctly.

  • omg...a tip...Mama you are nice! I would stop the person/student immediately and say something if I saw smoke and smelled my hair burning! Those instructors should have done something..maybe they didn't know what to do either..I don't go to the hair schools to get my hair done..my mom has in the past..She's never really had any good experiences with that.Sorry you experienced that ):

  • Man.. I had pretty much the same experience at the academy the day of my prom. I remember sitting in the waiting room seeing this guy walk out with a previous client, seeing her mess of a hair cut, and saying to myself, 'Lord PLEASE, do not give me that guy'... Well I got that guy and he ended up not knowing how to do a damn thing... I wasn't about to be looking a mess on prom, so I ended up asking him if there was anyone who could help him. Moral of that story, it's a school for a reason. Haha

  • I probablywould have talked to the instructors quietly and make a complaint. But I wouldnt say anything tohim, cos I wouldnt want to hurt anyones feelings. OH, and I would have defiantly NOT give him a tip lol.

  • IM 2 NICE 2....BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE TIPPED HIM...I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY PAID 4 IT AFTER I SPOKE 2 THE INSTRUCTOR & TOLD HIM/HER WHAT WAS GOING ON

  • I say the instructor was soooo wrong and should have stepped in - he was/is learning. Before my hair journey I would have sat through it to. Not now though - don't even go to salon, I am all about DIY.

  • i would have dont the same thing. I've would have paid and felt stupid afterward. but i would maybe called in and complaint about it afterward. Your hair doesn't look bad at all, but if its not what you wanted then its isnt ok. sorry for your experience.

  • omg girl i would have did the same and at the end of the day regreted paying and tiping, because he will do it to someone else. omg, hope that guy gets it together lol...

  • hey girl, I wasnt yelling at you. It's just that a lot of girls that visit your page are inspired by you. I think that you are an amazing young girl. . My expertise is actually letting people have it when they do stuff like your young hairstylist did lol. I just wanted to make sure you didnt let anything like that happen again, thats all. understand?

  • YOU TIPPED OMG

  • Girl you are too nice for your own good. You shld hv nt paid or tipped. You shld hv asked to speak to the instructor after you finished your own hair and explain to her.....look I will pay for the color and shampoo bt nt the blow out cuz I did it myself. That's wht you shld hv done. You allowed those people to do that to you by keeping quiet, and then you paid with a huge tip. No no no! Why wld you do tht? It doesn't mean tht you are uncouth or hv no tact becuz you speak up. You're a strong wom

  • @catherinegoldman24 why do i feel like my mom just cussed me out or something???

  • You are seriously so sweet. I would have done what you done.

  • You are seriously so sweet.

  • as a student at Avenue Five cosmo school in Austin,tx..i have always been thankful for a client sitting in my chair to chyme in and give their two sense on what they want done to their hair. Regardless of the hair texture, students should welcome feedback from the client. Just simply explaining what you want done to YOUR own hair does NOT make you a diva...speak up!

  • You should call in and complain, otherwise they'll never learn from their mistake and he will just think he did things the right way. Tell him what he did wrong too, so he knows how to do a better job next time.

  • I am bc I would hate to pay for something that I did nit eve get... I would"ve screamed at him I promise u... ur better than me babes. lol I sound like a mess but I don't play with my hair AT ALL!

  • call and complain and get your money and tip back!!! I went to a Jcpenney salon and a white lady did my hair and it was bad.. she blew it dry and that was it!!! no hot comb, curling iron or nothing. i paid for it went home and finished the job myself. so when it comes to a hair salon disaster i know what you mean. i will never pay for a job that is unsatisfactory again.

  • Tia, I have gone to the beauty school a couple of times, and both times before they began I told them exactly how I wanted my hair done, this way througout the process they'll continue to ask if what they are doing is ok, it worked. Sorry about your experience, but they're there to learn so you have to somewhat guide them.=/

  • @MegaDiamondmine Their instructors should have guided them.

  • lol...i had a bad hair experience too today...was trying out dis stylist across my street for the 1st time..like u,i dont say anything ,i jus quietly watch n get so disappointed in my head..my poor fiance.he had to bear my funk when he picked me from the salon..i felt so ugly n he felt so bad for me..lol..when ur man says '' o baby u r still beautiful'' then u know he feels bad for the busted hair lol

  • I guess some stylist just won't make the cut. I have had a bad experience from a student before and I have learned my lesson... Only the best will touch my hair!

  • your too nice tia~!!! THAT NEED-TO-PLEASE-DISEASE WILL HAVING YOU KICKING YOURSELF WHEN YOU GET HOME EVERYTIME!!! Been their:[.............sorry 'bout your experience!

  • By all mewns say something cuz I'm a student at paul Mitchell and we need that guidance

  • he would have got nothing from me. my mom told me she had a bad experience and she didnt pay the lady, she just walked out because it was so horrible.

  • i would say something im natural and im just getting some length now! hell yea i would say something

  • Tiaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... LAWD! I feel you.. I was once one of those students... and I SO asked for help. So sorry for you.

  • I know how you feel. I had the same thing happen to me at a school...the thing that pissed me off is that they still make you pay for it!

  • Hey Tia , all i can say is never go to him again. You shouldn't have gave him a tip because he didn't deserve it . An even though i dont like hurting peoples feelings either in still would have said something to him . And i love your make- up by the way

  • circle lens?? where do you get yours...tut. maybe lol

  • I hate being hard on hairstylist. But I will not walk the streets looking like a poodle. And I have said something before. Just as simple as a part. Some stylist like to tell you where to part your hair......NO! I want it in the left side, not the right,.....lol. I have paid for hair I didnt like, but not tip. Especially since he was frying your hair.

  • Honestly if can't perform the basics he's not ready to graduate into the real world. I mean you had to finish flat ironing, that's really disturbing.

  • Hey....I understand not wanting to hurt his feelings, but you are a paying customer. Therefore you are intitled to leave happy an satisfied. So yes in a very respectful way I would have told him what I want and how I want it. If he was unable to do it. The instructor would have been informed. If the instructor couldn't help, then no I wouldn't have paid. Why pay for something you're not satified with? Times are hard and people value their money more these days.

  • Tia, I do understand. I've done both stayed quite paid and tipped the person. Once, my hair was damaged so bad by one certified professional I never let it happen again. I speak up right away and I have even recently walked out of a salon who was clueless. It took a lot of care and money to get to a healthy hair place to let someone destroy it in one setting well not happen. End of story. I do relate to you but you did the right thing by doing the flat iron yourself but paying to do your own ha

  • I know me, I wouldn't have aid anything. I would have kicked myself for going to a school, I would've toldyself "what do I really expect from a hair school?" I would've paid what I owed (no tip) and made a mental note not to go there anymore, and lastly I would make an appt with my regular stylist and paid all over again. Lol. I am particular with my hair, so I don't think I woulda tried the school to begin with, but I've gone to a few professionals in my day whom I weren't happy with so...j

  • I definitely say something. I'm not rude about it or sound like I'm super pissed. But I know I'm not about to pay for something I don't like. The same with when ur at a restaurant, u not about to pay or eat for food that didn't come out the way u like so u send it back until I get it how u like it or asked for it. If I'm not completely happy I at least want to leave thinking my hair is decent and not a disaster. I usually tell them before hand what I like and what I want done. A way u could hav

  • Poor baby! Well we can say this was a learning experience! Also a lesson in patience, you know waiting until the guy who did your hair came back. But hey you live and learn! On another note your hair is growing alot, that guy who normally does your hair has it going on and is doing something right!!! I hope next time you have a much better experience.

  • Bless your heart. First, it is good that you kept in mind that you were at a school and not at a salon. Second, you should have said something. You seem like a very nice person and I believe you could have done it in a very tactful way. I think you should call the school and report the teachers. They are doing the students a huge disservice by not "teaching".

  • i would have said something, but in a respectful and nice way....yes they are in school but they are there to learn so feedback is great.....in my opinion

  • I would've paid because i know its a school and they're learning but I definitely wouldn't have given him a tip.

  • the days of keeping quiet are long gone for me. if ur not giving me wat i want i will leave especially if i know how to do it myself.

  • T, honestly I don't think I could have the heart . I could just picture him fumbling with his hair products and constantly messing up. The poor lad , probably was so scared that he was watching you to learn how to flat iron the hair lol ... Pay yes.. Tip no !!!

  • LOL, tia you are just too sweet !

  • how does ur hair grow so fast...wat is ur hair regimen????

  • Next time say something girl! You are paying for it and if you know they are messing up you have to say something i had an incident like that and i had to say something, i have too much hair to be walking around looking crazy lol

  • I was that type of person that would have payed back when i was in my 20s but now im in my 30s HELL TO THE NO I would of payed for the highlights that turned out nice and then WALKED OUT

  • Tia

Girrrrrl, If u do not stand for something you will fall for everything. Thats my belief system. So you have to speak up, its just the way you do it, You can do it in a respectful way. And , make sure u never go back to a hair school ever again. You still look beautiful though! so that is always good, its not that much of a train wreck and you did not lose any hair.

    Take care darlin

  • Uhh YES!!! I was getting senegelese (2) twist there were 2 people on my head and both sides were different. I kept trying to be nice but eventualy I was like STOP!! I had them take out what they did and I gave them 20.00 and left. We work to hard for our money. Girl you are funny though. He probably thinks he did the darn thing with that 10.00 tip. LMBO not at you.

  • Hey Tia!! Sorry this happened to you. I have to admit that I am a softy and would have done the same thing. I would have beared it but went home ranting like crazy. I just don't like hurting feelings. Makeup looks pretty, are you wearing cirlcle lens?

  • @RegalRoyale Thank you, yes i am.

  • @tialuv29 Cool! I have a black pair. Those look really good on you. : )

  • I wasn't in my 20s but now that I'm older you betcha I definitely tell my stylist nail tech whomever how I want it done

  • i would have did the same exact thing u did , u still look gorgeous love !!

  • Ok, it is your hair honey. If you are unhappy, you can say in a nice way, "ummmm Im not feeling this". Especially if they are learning. So the tip you shoulda gave him was that he need to pay attention in class and get a feel for what the client wants.

  • Where were the supervisor's of the students? You BETTER call and complain! Teachers are supposed to supervise the students during clinical hours. So sorry to hear this happened. I wouldnt have paid until I complained to a supervisor.

  • OMG Tia!! That is the ultimate hair disaster story - so sorry : (

  • All I gotta say is " OH HEEELLLLL NAHHHHH!" .... You good because I would of said something every part of the way.

  • My hair ...my money...I would BUTT in

  • I've had soooooo many bad hair experiences. Now, I no longer allow stylist to do what they want to do while I sit by and say nothing. I've gotten up to leave beofre. I'll pay for whatever they did properly or to my satisfaction.

  • I have NO PROBLEM letting them stop doing my hair or LETTING THEM KNOW how I want it to be done....If they want to get paid then they will do it they way I want it done....I do it to my hair dresser, my sister-in-law salon....I mean money is hard to come by these days so!

  • My bad hair experience happened at the Dominican Salon. Everyone recommended it because I have really wavy, naturally curly hair that I relax maybe twice a year. I asked for a cut & blow out. Ofc they used the Round Brush technique like they always do. When I left I thought my hair looked fine - not great but not bad either. But after I got home, I started to inspect my hair and I realized that my hair was JACKED and totally uneven! Never going back! Daniella @ the Hair Cuttery suits me fine lol

  • i thought ur haiir looked fine. a little big n puffy but fine UNTIL i went to hair did #2. BIG DIFFERENCE

  • This exact same thing happened to me last November!!!! I donated 8 inches of my hair but before hand the girl washed my hair and I had to tell her to section my hair and wash my scalp. She did her best, but it still felt dirty. She then did not put enough conditioner in my hair. When it came to blow-drying she my hair was dry but my scalp was still wet. The instructors had NO IDEA about Black hair and did not do anything. Never again!

  • Yes I would say somethin. I went to beauty school and yes I finished and got my license so imma kind of take up for him for not really rubbing your scalp really hard bc you did get color, BUT all of the other things( burning you etc) is A NO SIR, I DONT THINK SO! I would not have paid and I would've given him a tip alright.... DON'T QUIT YA DAY JOB BC COSMETOLOGY AINT FOR YOU!!!!

  • Girrrrl.... you a grown ass woman. I would straight up say i want an experienced stylist. Done! He's not learning anything by you giving him a $10 tip and not saying anything.

  • Tia never let anyone EVER again take advantage of you. You work hard for your money and deserve to receive quality service anywhere you go. I understand you mentioned that these were students but would you have a resident perform surgery on your body? Hell no! treat your beautiful hair with the same love you would everything else on you. The moment they told you your regular guy was sick you should have waited patiently and rocked a ponytail til he came back.

  • we would of been fighting...

  • i would absolutely say suntin, i do NOT play abt my hair. esp not w/ students. u gotta speak up girl

  • They were ass holes!

  • Maybe he is new?! Still learning? But boo you should have said something! At the end of the day, you are paying for a service! lol..you are just TOO sweet!

  • i would tell them to STOP in the beginning when it is obvious that they dont know what they're doing.i feel bad that you had to experience that

  • LMAO @ your rewind and slow mo!

  • That's too funny!! But not funny :/

  • Girl I went to a hair school and the guy started out effing up my hair and I made him stop. The instructor ended up doing my whole head. I'm not with playing around with my hair and I was just getting a roller set. So I would really make someone stop with some direct heat.

  • I think you were trying to be nice, because he was a student, but in the end, Its YOUR hair, you have to speak up!

  • at least you can say you had a new experience lol but i feel your pain...

  • he did a good job on the color so I may have tipped him but after having to flat iron my own head I would not have paid anything. For the teachers or whoever to see u flat ironing your own hair and not butt in to see if they could make u the client happy even if they had to do it themselves is crazy smh...u are very nice Tia

  • $10 TIP? lol and you went through all of that?

  • you're too sweet... i would have said something knowing he's still in training or at least not given him a tip ... you're tooooo nice :DD

  • love the color, but I'm not the type to go off either. Now if I see someone cutting too much, or frying my hair, I would stop them. Now i have a couple of cousins who would have probably beat him down, but it was his instructors fault, they should have stepped in, he was a student.

  • You are too good- it couldn't have been me. I put the stylist who's been doing my hair for the past 3 years in check!

  • LOL ten dollar tip is what got me lol

  • "I want to call in and complain"

    DO It!

Save another Black girl from your horror lol

  • No Ma'am! He would have not gotten a tip and I would have called for one of the instructors to correct and or finish his mess. I would've been like, "Excuse me...Supervisor?! I think he is having a hard time here..can you offer some instruction or complete my head, because I don't have the time to sit here and my patience is running thin."

  • he'll never learn about the mistakes he's made if you don't call and let them know you weren't happy & HELL no I wouldn't have paid. I would've cried and walked out

  • Hellll yes I would bud in its your hair and your money so they can do it right or get the owner/manager .the damn sure wouldn't have gotten a tip I it won't done right geeeh

  • no more giving chances Tia! gosh I wouldve flipped on that young man,I am not the one smh

  • naw i wouldn't of payed or tipped him! I would of called an complaint and been straight up with them because you would want that student to learn from his mistakes rather than not knowing wat he does wrong and end up messing someone else's hair up. But thats just crazy that school needs an correction. I say call the school and explain what went wrong.

  • lol gurl y did u giv him a tip?.. i think u cud hav said somethin but in a nice way cuz i do understand u not wantin to come off mean but i would have been like, can u scratch my scalp more please.. or do it harder.. lol i would probably pay but not tip, and i would walk out lookin unhappy.. waste of time n money..

  • I'm sorry for your experience! - You need to go back to the school and speak to the instructor and student. I would not have left a tip or paid if I was not satisfied. I would have stayed there and let them do it all over again to the way I liked it. Next time, please voice your opinion. xx

  • why did u pay? o hell no

  • Instructors are supposed to check the hair before you get up from the seat...especially if the student is new on the floor. It is OK to stop the student and ask them to get their instructor.

I don't think you should have tipped. Based on what you said he wouldn't have expected a tip or (I think) been mad if you didn't.

  • yes to everything its your hair.....but your color is cute... good eye color

  • beautiful!!! omg lashes!!!???? whats going on with them, they look GREAT!

  • Been there, I know how you feel : ( Your TIP to him should have been: Try another profession, cuz beauty school ain't it!

Loving your lashes, is it lashes and/or mascara? What kind?

  • One of the things that I have learned in my 29 yrs of life is that you have to SPEAK UP for yourself to get what you want...and don't wait till later, say how you feel right then and there or else noone will know what you want or how you feel.

  • As someone in beauty school let me just say that it is the most nerve wrecking thing when you are working on someone. At the end of the day we are students there to learn. Leaving a tip that big and not voicing that you were unhappy implies that you were more than satisfied. The only way he is going to improve is by getting feedback. You should definitely call the school and provide that feedback to the instructors who will hopefully deliver it in a constructive manner. Nothing is worse that a

  • I would like to see a tutorial on your makeup <3 it great for spring =)

  • I would call and complain because at the end of the day he was a student and you are a paying customer. The instructor should have been around and when they saw that you were not satisfied, they should have stepped in. Everyone is not comfortable doing natural hair. I'm sure if you call, they will do it over!

  • And I would of at least paid but no tip. Tia are you okay/high? lol

  • You are scaring me! My friend referred me to a Paul Mitchell school and I am so scared because they are students...But it all depends on who you get. I am really scared now...

  • I think the customer should speak up (even if you don't/feel like you can't). It's your hair.

  • In my experience, a stylist can be late or even take another client before me when I arrived first and I wouldnt say anything. As soon as I get in a stylist chair and they are doing something to my hair that I dont agree with, I politely voice what I would prefer them to do. If they dont correct the mistake like your stylist didnt, I would have asked the supervisor to help him or just take over. I would've tipped also. But only $5

  • your hair looks fine 2 me

  • LMBO!!!!!......Its SOOOO not funny though, because I HATE when I pay to get my hair done, and it doesn't come out how I want. I would've paid too though....tip?...ehhhh.....lol But I do wanna say thank you for making me soooo much more nervous about cosmetology school! lol.... Thanks A Lot Tia!

  • beautiful as always !

  • OMG, you and I are just a like. I would have did the same thing. I'm the type of person who keeps my mouth shut thinking it would get better and at the end pay and tip. Lol, like my eyebrows the other day. She took more than half of them off knowing I HATE thin brows and I paid, thanked and tipped. I dam near cried when I got home. I'm stepping up next time.

  • u def should have complained and left with all ur money. of course u would have been a lady about it but that's not ok. because had he continued doing ur hair his way, u may have walked out of there w/ way less hair. the instructors were WRONG for not INSTRUCTING him to do the right thing but they were sitting back thinking u just wanted ur hair ur way and that's why u started doing ur own hair. basically, they probly thought u were a bxtch! lol. gotta speak up when something's not right!

  • I know I said I love black hair on you but I'd like to see a chocolate brown tone on you, that'd look really nice.

You should have spoke to the manager, you really should have spkoe up, but I think it speaks volumes about they type of person you are, where other people are vocal you are not,

you are lovely but NEED TO BE more assertive, for your own good.

I used to be like you but I learnt to have a voice and I get what I want because I speak up.

  • I don't think it looks crazy. It has a lot of volume (hihi) no seriously I like it. I also had an experience like you. While in the chair I kept thinking about the money that I had to pay at the end. My face expressed what I was feeling and the owner stepped in at the end and flat ironed my hair. I told him how the experience made me feel and he tried to make me feel better by being kind to me. At the end I did pay and never went back. After that I looked for another hairdresser and he was wurse

  • Wow...He barely washed your hair and you didn't say anything + you paid and tipped?! That was your que to say something. For future reference, please do NOT wait for someone to say or do something. It's your hair, therefore, you have to speak up. Only tip for GOOD/GREAT service, NOT BS service.

My salon has 5 ladies that only wash hair. 2 out of 5 know what they're doing and those are the only 2 that I go to. If I call my salon and my stylist is NOT there, I don't go.

  • yes, you should have intervined, remember he was a student you have to show him how to treat your type of hair. I would not have done a color...

  • OMG you even gave him a tip??? :( he seriouesly did not deserve that

  • the same thing happened to me, i went to one of the beauty schools in to get my hair done, i'm black with REALLY thick hair, so when i went to the counter to ask for a wash and flat iron they brought this white guy, and i was veryy skeptical, but i didn't feel like waiting for anyone else so i was like what the hell ! he barely washed my scalp, it was just a all over horrible experience, but when he was done with my hair, i told him how i felt and what he needs to work on so he can get better.

  • and you gave him a tip! lol no way!

  • I love you makeup latia... you look soft and natural. But Latia, you know me! I would have definitely politely say something! Im the most pickiest person when it comes to my hair/nails/makeup. Girl, you are tooo nice! But at least u didnt embarrass him though.. He is still in school.

  • I wouldn't hv paid or tipped and I would hv walked to the instructors and cussed them out then left lol.

  • I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I've had situations like this and I've stopped and even told a lady to take all the braids out of one side of my hair because they didn't match the other side. I'm sorry but I was paying my hard-earned money. She wasn't happy but the salon owner understood. You're a sweetie for tipping. I would have paid, but I don't think I could have tipped him. I hope your hair is no worse for the wear! Blessings...

  • i believe they get taught all hair types but once they get their reg clients they kinda forget which shouldn't be tolerated. i go to a beauty school as well but i don't study hai,r but i do observe the hair students and they are taught all types o hair they shouldn't be able to pass the state exam if they dont know all types, on another note i'm the same i would just sit there too but the tip would have never been given he would have known something was off with his service .

  • lol at the slowed up 10 dollar tip. awwwwwwwwww i feel bad i have been in that situatuon as well

  • I would have told him politely to get his instructor. Then I would have asked her to finish my hair or monitor him while completing my service.

I would not pay nor tip anyone who did not provide me with a service I am not completely satisfied with. But, I understand that at the time you were probably so shocked/frustrated and upset that he was completely inexperienced with his styling skills. Go up there and tell the manager you want him/her to re-do your hair. Not a student this time!

  • I'm sorry when I'm not happy w/my service, I'll deduct from the tip. I understand why you didn't complain, you didn't want to get the guy in trouble. But I'm sure the instructor's said something to him after you left.

  • I used to be like that I would just sit there & let someone do whatever to my hair & not say anything cause I felt bad, but now .. heck NO! Its YOUR hair that YOUR paying money for weather your getting your hair done with a professional stylist or a student, I think you should of left satisfied! Not with a terrible hair malfunction lol. Anyways you still look beautiful & I wish you much better luck next time & don't be afraid or feel bad to say something, you have the right to do so! :)

  • Oh, you probably paid AND gave a tip because you are a nice and sweet person. I'm saved too, but... GUUUURL, I wudda left with my money in my pocket! OKAY?! Can we say recession? LOL! It's all good. You still have your hair, hopefully heat damage free. Next time you'll speak. So you learned something...

  • I'm definitely the type of person who tells you what t do and I even carry my own products at times.

  • Tia, you should have said something. You should have not paid or tipped him. They saw what was going on, Therefore it would not have been a shock to them if you got up and left. I think you should complain to the corporate office, not the salon directly because like you said they all watched, which means they don't care. First sign of doom was the Wash!! Stick to what you know to avoid anymore nightmares like this. Have a great day hun(^_^)

  • I am from NYC, and I do live around black people... meaning, you went somewhere that you knew you were a minority and that very few people, including the instructors, knew anything about black hair (I hope that makes sense, it's 2:16 am, lol.). You would have been well within your rights to make suggestions - *IT'S YOUR HAIR!* If something were to happen, YOU'D be the one to grow it back. Shame on the instructors for not intervening.

  • I would have paid the charge but not a tip. I would not go back. I would call in a comment on the experience. That is the only way they will know something was not right.

  • I'm so sorry. I aint a bitch but no student will be putting their hands in my hair. I wouldn't pay at all lol but you are a sweetheart.

  • holyyy what did he have the flatiron on...one degree:/ an hour and a half for just the back.that is crazY!

  • I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but I think this is the chance you take when you go to a school to get your hair done. They are not professionals, they are still learning technique so you can't go in expecting professional results. From the way you described everyone just standing around watching the train wreck happen, it seems as though no one in there may have truly known the proper way to do your "type" hair. When you started doing it yourself , someone should have stepped in!

  • i did the same thing ! and i gave her a tip! i have not been back to her or anyone else! i am too nice! i was angry but yet still too nice.

  • I think this is a great example of why you should stick with your stylist when you find a good one.... and avoid hair schools if you don't want a student playing in your hair.

  • Why would you not say something they are students keyword "STUDENTS". Girl my hair is the reason I'm not rich so I would of freaked on him, he burned you! So next time you have my permission to say something and not tip. Head and face you own the right to bitch. I'm going to need for you to do a tut on that FOTD/ Milani mix it up vid look.

  • Absolutely, I would say something. I would have went with my first instinct when he started washing your hair. You are the paying customer and nobody is doing you a favor.

  • this specific salon.... hmmm. yah... I wont even go there, but Tia.. stick with your stylist girl. xox !

  • I def see a difference from your previous hair did video.

When it comes to hair you def should speak up! Why should I pay for some half ass job that a "stylist" does.

  • I would have said something but you have to be intactful with what you say. Experiences like that made me go natural and not deal with hair salons. I think that one day I will get my hair professionally done again but not anytime soon.

  • I would so but in.... its ur hair! Or at least asked the instructor to observe him while he works. I would NEVER GO BACK!!!!! 10 tip my ass, u should have tipped him to change his soon to be profession. Thats like someone wiping one side of their makeup application off and do it themselves. I would be so shame!

  • I would have said something, because i want what i paid for. OR i would have told the him or the owner/teacher that i wasnt gonna pay ALL of the money if he only did a HALF job =)

  • my hair is armpit legth right now,i am natural and although i have had a blow out in the past...if they are doing something to hinder the hardwork that i have done then you better believe i will say something...and no tip either...no pay

  • girl why did you tip him? lol i dont think the instructor jumped in because students in the salon phase are just about to graduate so they probably expect them to know what theyre doing, like you did.

  • OH NOOOOO..THEY AT LEAST HAVE TO MANIPULATE THE SCALP...OMG...I WOULD HAVE LEFT..
