  • two for sure legends

  • Race was one mean pile of Muscle!

  • Race the greatest wrestler on gods green earth

  • Hi race had many matches in his first region other then Bruno please know I facts

  • Is this in St, Louis?

  • @jesseroman3

Yes, it is...I saw Larry Matysik introducing the match, and the referee appears to be former wrestler Joe Tangaro, a St. Louis mainstay.

And I recognize the ring as being the one used at St. Louis' Kiel Auditorium.

  • Harley Race was the NWA World's Heavyweight Champion on January 26, 1978.

  • Hi daybright that was given to rich for a week so atlanta and southeast area would get a boost Barnet and race were good friend race did that as a favor. It wasn't stolen rich would have been a dead man. .where do u come up with this crap

  • Here are 2 of the legit toughest SOB's ever in the wrestling business!

  • @buddmann Well said.

  • @FerretJohn Really? Thats interesting because i dont remember Tommy Rich being in a world of hurt physically or professional when he stole the NWA title from Race under Barnett s orders.

  • Diesel u know nothing dum--- as race was the most feared respected wrestler ever it is well known and told by many of the great wrestlers that he was the man. No u facts

  • race was a fat, beer bellied coward. flair's own mother beat him with her umbrella when he cussed in front of her. he cried like a little girl.

  • @diesel021234 I don't think you would say that to harley's face would you.

  • HUS-HUS-HUS-HUS-HUS

  • I'm really surprised that Brody let Race suplex him. Have never seen Brody beaten with a anything but a cradle ,count out , or a DQ. But never a conventional pin. He wasn't too keen on letting anyone lift him for a body slam much less a suplex.

  • @platehed That's because it WAS Harley Race. Brody was indeed a dificult worker, hating to sell and hating to be pinned by anyone, but the NWA World Champ gets his respect (and if you tried stealing the win from Race you were in for a world of hurt, physically and professionally)

  • I saw these two hook up in KC MANY years ago. I was in the 2nd row. Great memory.

  • Harly Race was a real tough guy abnd could whip anybodys ass. Too bad in either 73 or 74 there was never a match between him and Sammartino.

I tell you, a nice 3-way dance between Vadar, Hansen and Harly in a stiff wrestling match.

Brody was one man who should have been an NWA champion but never was. Only if the Von Erichs went national in 84 , there could have been a fued between Flair, Von Erich and Brody and this mcmahon entertainment crap would have been a shortlived fad.

  • Race did wrestle Sammartino in St.Louis. It was his only title defense during his 1st title reing. They wrestled to a draw. Sammartino had him in a bear hug when the bell sounded.

  • it is common knowledge that in his prime Harley race could legitimately beat the shit out of any body. That is why he had the title for so long. If you weren't willing to lose the easy way, Harley race was more than happy to beat you the hard way.

  • wow, harley is the man, from flair to funk brody run roughshod and beat the hell out of everybody, he was a pussycat here, with harley, (clean job) very professional with his slams and knees, harley said ill give you the first fall kid but after that your ass is mine, that suplex was classic great match

  • a fine match ffeaturing all time greats

  • Brody+Race=Classic

    R.I.P BRODY

  • @THARSHTILDEATH two out of a bunch of the legit toughest guys in the world

  • Did Harley ever wrestle Fritz Von Erich

  • Race and Brody were two of the greatest.

  • Interesting to see Brody actually sell for Race....

  • Harley says in Emerson Murray's Brody bio that he let Brody know he was ready to haul off on him if Brody tried any no-sell BS.

Plus since this was a title match Brody knew if he did that he'd never wrestle in the NWA again.

    When is this? 78-79?

  • In the autobiography of his life, its been said Brody only sold for those he really respected like Race, The Von Erichs, Stan Hansen, Dick Murdoch and Giant Baba (after all Baba wrote his checks in All Japan and he was the boss)

  • @BillDee002 brody only didn't sell a few times luger the 2 hr headlock and i think one other time he sold for dick the bruiser ric flair abby snuka spike huber bockwinkle and hundreds of other wrestlers it's a unfair stigma that follows him but i know better he was a friend of my dads and was a nice person he was great with us kids and i saw him wrestle countless times and he always sold heavy and scared the hell out of the audience he even sold for the prick who killed him

  • Did Harley Race ever wrestle Stan Hansen or Abdullah the butcher

  • I would guess he has, although it is possible he did not because heel vs. heel matches were not all that common back then.

  • @styx4ever1963 He wrestled Abdullah in Japan one time. They wound up fighting in the street by the arena, stopping traffic. Japanese promoters forbade them to wrestle each other in Japan anymore because of it.

  • @mkl62 When Harley Race was NWA World Champion, did he ever have a unification match with AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel?

  • @Belburg Not that I recall. But I think that he faced Superstar Billy Graham in The Orange Bowl in Miami in 1978.

  • This is great to understand at 16 years old.

  • Keep in mind Race like Ole Anderson also booked the mjority of cards. Race was great and his run was awesome. He was a tremendous champion of the NWA which at that time was at the forefront.

  • Harley Race is one of the greatest in-ring performers ever, you still see his hand print on today's wrestlers, Triple H uses his high knee strike, his running knee drop and his stalling vertical suplex, in fact, Ric Flair took a lot of Harley's high spots too, like the front flip over the top rope when being irish-whipped into the turnbuckle. Race was one of the all-time great heel champions like Gene Kiniski before him, and this clip proves that he could wrestle scientifically if he wanted to.

  • brody was far superior than ol boring harley, harleys best move was the head butt..

  • Your right that the good old days of wrestling ar long gone. I wouldn't walk across the street to see some of the wrestlers today! They bore me. Bring on men like Sammartino, Race, Funks, Brisco, Kowalski, Tanaka, Von Erich, Crusher, and the Bruiser. Those were men of wrestling and great stars.

  • "Harley Race would take on a buzzsaw and give it the first two rounds" Gordon Solie

  • I love watching footage of Brody. I enjoy Race as well, as he was a good worker and a good champion. However, I'm not sure a guy like Race would get over with crowds today, as he didn't have the type of physique that people today associate with champions. I don't mean to sound as if Harley should have used steroids but he would have been very intimidating if he had been a little more sculpted.

  • Harley Race WAS a very intimidating man in his day. It has been stated time and time again that he was one of the toughest, meanest men in the history of wrestling. If you were scheduled to face Race in a match you best have your shit together because he was going to school you if you didn't. Those are very intimidating qualities.

  • Harley probably wouldn't get over these days just as you stated. The cry baby, roid raged stunt men of today wouldn't know what to do in the ring with him. When a bully who can back it up comes in and puts all of your "champions" to shame, using only a quarter of his talent, he is not going to get over with the fans of today. It is sad the word "champion" is still used to describe title holders of today.

  • Well, Finlay is kind of over, and Harley is that type of wrestler. Maybe he wouldn't be THE champion, but he could have been over.

  • i couldnt have put it better myself

  • You're talking about Harley Race as if the out

comes in these matches were'nt pre-determined.

    Pro-Wrestling is all about ENTERTAINMENT,the

old-timers like Ivan Koloff are open about it.

  • It is wrestling and not a body building contest. Have you seen how so many ex body builders NEVER fare well when they legitimately try boxing, etc. Harley would have taken the bodybuilders of his time and destroyed them.

  • Great post Fletch. Those were the days!

  • Wrestling today is nothing but a bunch of bodybuilding steroid freaks who think they can act. I love the old Georgia Championship Wrestling etc. The old school is where its at.

  • I agree with irOnmaiden13. This stuff today is ridiculous and to "manufactured". Powerbombs and piledrivers are much more devastating and believable than all this "hardcore" B.S. you see today.

  • This is vintage. Not like that gay shit today. Did u guys know that piledrivers are outlawed in WWE, and power bombs are rarely allowed because vince is afraid to injure his precious money making wrestlers.

  • Pro wrestling was great in the days of Harley Race, Jack Briscoe, the Funks, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, the Andersons, Road Warriors, and Wahoo McDaniel. I miss those days.

  • I wish world championship matches today were 2 out of 3 falls. That would call on Booker and Edge to do more wrestling. Not a chance!

  • Brody was awesome. One of the all-time great big men!

  • No sound bad qualoty WHATEVER! These are literally, 2 of my all time favorites.

  • Brody was a freakin BEAST!

  • Wow, bad ASS! Thanks!
