@jakep1979 Rick Flair was more popular than Austin could ever be, not to bring down Austin, I love him, excellent wrestler, excellent character, legend. But, hes not Rick Flair.
@LimeGuy101 Are you high? Austin was light years ahead of flair as far as popularity goes. Ric flair was great but are you telling me that if Austin went to TNA flair would be the better draw? dont make me laugh. Ric Flair has nothing on Austin and he knows it. Why else would he hold him down in 93?
@1981bigdee in that time steve austin was a joke so dont tell me at that time he was bigger than ric flair he just had luck that wwf put him the rattle snake
@1981bigdee I'm a huge Austin fan, but Flair never held him back. He was going strong all through '93 with Brian Pillman until Pillman got injured later that year. The WCW marketing department didn't know how to market him or use him, plus Hogan was the one holding everyone back. That, plus Ricky Steamboat being injured during their WCW US title feud didn't help. Then Austin injured his knee and his bicep, so Bischoff decided to release him
Flair claims that he was pro-Austin back when Austin was in WCW; it was others, like Dusty Rhodes, who held him down. Flair even readily admits that Austin is the greatest ever, even if not all of Flair's fans recognize that.
@LimeGuy101 obviously Flair isn't more popular because you misspelled his name. Austin is the biggest draw in wrestling history. He broke merchandising records, PPV buy rates, rating records. Austin is the greatest of all time. Flair is a close second though. He's had more longevity, but at what cost? He is in TNA because he needs the money, not because he still has it.
@Eduardo10390 .....I mispelled his name? Nope, no I didn't, and no, Austin is NOT more popular than Flair, well, okay NOW he is, but you have to think in relative terms, PPV Buyrate records were always going to be broken, the Industry gets bigger, people have more money etc. Flair was the biggest thing in NWA/WCW till the mid 90's, he's not bigger than Hogan, true, but he completely overshadows Austin when it comes to "Star" levels for his time, just like Hogan.
@LimeGuy101 we're not talking about "Rick Flair" or even "Richard Morgan Fliehr," we're talking about RIC flair. Flair may have been a great worker and a great world champion, but he didn't draw as much as Hogan, sorry to say. Ric Flair sold out arenas all over, but he never headlined WM III in front of 93,000 people (in reality it was around 84,000) in the pontiac silverdome, and he certainly didn't sell out the houston astrodome for WM 17 in front of 86,000. by the mid 1990's
Even Flair admits that Austin is the greatest of all time, greater than both he and Hulk Hogan. I'm sure that promoters like Vince McMahon take into account inflation and the fact that more people exist today.
Had the UWF(Watts) title been recognised as a 'world title' by those that mattered, The Boss would've been the 6th former/future/current World Champion in the ring
LOL @ 2:45 Austin "no-sold" the fome finger shot to the head ;) this is why I love staying up all night looking at wrestling on Youtube. Matches like this are 1000 times better than anything on today.
This is awsem. Good old fashion heals vs Faces. WCW was so good back then. My favourite commentary team Jessie the body with Tony Schiavone. I would watch TNA if they had them doing commentary.
Awesome match, 6 Hall of Famers/futur Hall of Famers, 6 Legends. Yeah, didn't knew about Simmons turning Heel, didn't last very long, I think he was gone from WCW 1 or 2 months after that match...But still great match. Never thought Flair teamed with the Boss Man, great stuff.
@sukebechan36 He began his heel turn at Starrcade 1993 after he had lost his BattleBowl qualifying match. He attacked his lottery partner, Keith Cole after the match. They lost to Sting and Jerry Sags. Ron Simmons' attitude deterorated afterward into full heel status.
@squeezetoy1984 wow, i have a bunch of videos from that era, but that period was so forgettable. how in the world can you remember all of that? hahahaha.
other than the Hollywood Blondes, Rick Rude, and eventually Jake coming in, I can't remember a whole lot from that time. (post Luger SB II - pre Hogan Bash 94?)
This free WCW Saturday Night Special is better than most recent WWE PPVs, especially Wrestlemania.

@Edgehead10075 yes but austin choose his own Gimmick and choose to do the hollywood blondes so dont blame wcw about it
