  • can't wait to find out what the insurance would cost me :\

  • BRZ+Custom tune=Cheap fun! I'm tempted!

  • Dont get me wrong, i LOVE Subaru. but this video is just not not exciting at all. When i first heard about the Subyota concept, i relished the very thought of it. But now that its out, it all just seams quite boring. It seams as if this amazing idea could have been done by Subaru and been epic, but it was a little to wild for Toyota so they decided to tame it to make it "family friendly". Why?

  • If it really was the no nonsense hybrid of these to Japanese manufacturers, the way they promoted the concept, why is it so boring?

  • Subaru BRZ Sti?

(add AWD, turbo, Sti suspension, ect.....)

  • 1st ever front boxer engine rear wheel drive chassis, and the car weighs in at just 1200kg.

The engine can be easily tune up to 300hp in NA form, and 4-600 HP in turbocharged version.

    Nothing to complain.

  • It looks like a cab. Dumbass forgot his in/out of service sign. Now he gotta rush back home and get it before his boss finds out.

  • Sounds like it needs grippier tires.

  • 0:39, that bird sounds nice :P

  • It's a Mitsubishi Eclipse with a better transmission & reliability. Won't sell with 200HP. It would've sold with 300HP, 6-speed & 2500 pound weight (or 2700 in AWD).

  • @Hesam0000 Problem with 300hp is that it would then become too expensive to buy, and with todays gas prices, it would not be something people would buy. You have to take the marked into consideration

  • @Ncom1 300HP used to be high. In 2011 Ford Mustang had over 300HP with up to 45mpg on a closed-track and sold for $20k so those calculations don't apply anymore. They did up to 90s. Today you can buy a 2003+ Mercedes E55 AMG with 100k miles for 15 grand and rightaway you have 469HP under your feet that can destroy a quarter million dollar 80s Ferrari, a 90s Viper or Lamborgini.

  • @Hesam0000 Fair point... but the world is bigger than USA and the Middle East, in Norway, where i am from cars with 300hp will get taxed so hard no one would consider buying a car like that. If you have the money for it, i guess people would buy a porsche instead :/

  • @Ncom1 Doesn't the world end at New York city?! shooot :) Well, Norway is a tiny country so they assume if you have 300HP you'll lose control & fall into the ocean :)) here in America they have 3000 miles of space & lots of fat people so they need more power to pull their weight & their car's weights.

  • @Hesam0000 Haha! Wish that was the problem... Our government put these insane taxes on cars. Norway seems like the last soviet state

  • @Hesam0000 think about this... the Honda Civic Si is the top of the line Civic and has 200hp with similar curb weight. This is the BASE model so it starts at 200hp RWD. Giving it AWD, Turbo, etc etc adds up to the cost and they aren't rebuilding the WRX. Btw it does have a 6spd gearbox in standard and manual-matic and they are making an STi version.

  • @TheDarthCarloos AWD didn't add to the cost of $17000 Subaru Impreza, 305HP didn't add to the cost of $20,000 2011 Mustang V6. Add a 6-speed to a 300HP small car with AWD and people easily pay the $27000 but as it is it won't sell any more than the 300 Z or 240SX did. The competition is strong & people expect more. I would give this car A for 6-speed, C for looks, C for motor, F for space and D for price. Overall C.

  • @Hesam0000 '12 Impreza also a sedan, has around 148hp and 100lbs fatter. The V6 '12 Mustang is 1000lbs heavier. Also, again, they aren't reinventing the WRX. This is a joint venture that will create a the Toyota FT-86 and the Scion FR-S as well. Power isn't everything, this car is very balanced, which makes up for hp. At ~$2500 it is a normal price with inflation and features, no it prob won't sell out, but it will be a popular option vs MX-5s, Eclipses, RX-8s, and BMW 1 series.

  • @TheDarthCarloos I was talking about 2011 Impreza hatchback @ 3075 pounds with 170HP, 2.5 engine & AWD 5-speed at only $17k. As a subaru owner of 5 or 6 I can confirm that an AWD 160HP subaru at 3100 pounds can handle uphills much better than a rear-wheel-drive 250HP,4000 pound Olds Aurora I used to have. I'm sure this is a fun car same as my 92 Turbo Mitsu Eclipse that I bought new back then but that thing cost me $15k. It will sell a few but not many unless a 350HP turbo comes out at $30k.

  • @Hesam0000 Still not a coupe ;) But I do agree the STi version will prob sell a lot better.

  • @TheDarthCarloos By the way, Civic Si had the smooth, hi-rev Honda engine that could keep up with twice it's size on the freeway. Nissan engines are poor quality (other than some large 4cylinders).

  • @Hesam0000 Just saying the Civic Si is at the top of the Civic mound. Most expensive, fastest one right? Well the BRZ is the entry level as far as performance for this line. It starts where the Si ends. The STi will prob belch out ~300-350hp, RWD (again not a WRX ;P) with brembo brakes, etc etc. I take it you are not a Nissan fan? lol

  • @TheDarthCarloos Yes, it WAS the top car in 90s. I like BRZ's 2500 pounds and the 6speed for now. I also never sit in a car with its engine being knee-high when there are large, crazy 400HP Chevy trucks and SUVs on the road. The last Nissan I bought was a new Quest van in 1998 for $18k and I drove it for 5000 miles, rubbed the corner on some pickup in gas-station then sold it for $18k 5 months later :)) it was a weak, bouncy van with a crappy stereo. Since then mostly Mercedes and Subaru.

  • @Hesam0000 ah the old 300zx twin turbo, one of my first lusts... I'm looking at the XT Forester for my wife. Seems to be one of the best all round vehicles in its class for our needs and will be our first Subie. :D

  • @TheDarthCarloos Yes, in 1987 my brother in law bought a regular 160HP 300ZX and it was the smoothest car on the road (compared to all the crappy cars of 80s!) I think the turbo had 220HP. Later years regular Z got 220HP & twin turbo got 300HP. From my early 90s cars my favorite was the 1990 Infiniti Q45 with 278HP souped up to 300 or so with no speed-governer. That car could fly 0 to 150 like a 2-ton missile.

  • @TheDarthCarloos Buy the Outback instead, it's longer so has more usable space, it's more aero-dynamic so smoother and less bouncy on the road and it's more car-like than Forester, still has good ground-clearance for offroad. Impreza is too low and too small, Forester short and too high.

  • An N/A 2L boxer engine, RWD, 200hp stock, sounds like a fun drift car with lots of potential. Do not know why people are complaining about such an awesome car!?

  • @Crazyfooldowntheroad its got no power.... and should be awd....

  • How come it doesn't sound like it has a flat 4? Does it have equal length headers?

  • @Xbox360Player350 It's not a flat 4, its a boxer 4 :)

  • @Ncom1 True lol. But why does it sound like an inline 4? I'm thinking it's the headers.

  • @Xbox360Player350 Im not sure? its running a relatively high compression of 12.5:1. Maybe that have something to do with it?

  • @Ncom1 Hmm I don't think so, the CR usually doesn't affect the motor's sound. I'm thinking it's equal length headers but I'll have to look at a pic to be sure

  • @Ncom1 Flat 4 and Boxer 4 are the same thing. Just a different name for it. You can call it Boxer due to the way the pistons travel or Flat due to the nature of the full layout.

  • @stityper Hmm.. then i learned something new today. Thank you :)

  • ALCYONE!! turbo??

  • it better be high revving like the s2000

  • @MugenDB2 Honda rev high b/c of the VTEC cams that activate during high revs giving it more juice. Different engine, so the power band will be different.

  • gutless wonder, 2ltr na

  • Motortrend has this estimated at $25k and the focus is handling, so it might be doable for me. Just don't know if I can go back to no AWD.

  • @psychofunksoldier02 even at 25k it would be a really affordable car for us peasants. Ofcourse most make below 20k a year. But this car would be really nice, sporty and such.

  • If the price is like 20k IM GETTING IT even if I can't afford it!

  • getting a little understeer with that 53/47 weight ratio

  • rear wheel drive

  • buy a Yamaha R1 like I did, never care about fast cars because your bike is faster than every car on the road.

  • @jarjarlol

    ariel atom.

  • @MySupernegro Ducati 1199 Panigale. $17k.

  • This car is gonna rock!

  • its not about power. Look at Porsche. If you want a good handling car and not alot of money, you buy a boxster. If you want alot of power and good handling, get a Carrera. Its got the lowest COG of any production vehicle. Handles like a dream. 200 HP (about. maybe more) is plenty. Don't like it, dont buy it. Or slap a turbo on it.

  • engine is too weak only 200hp that sucks

  • @martin2005mvp thats the toyota subaru confirmed 295 on standard and 300 to 320 hp on the sti model

  • @martin2005mvp rumors suggested that the STI version would deliver up to 300 HP..:)

  • @martin2005mvp The engine is too weak?

You have to take in consideration what kind of car this is. Its based on the AE86 which was an affordable sports car for the average working man. The BRZ and GT-86 follows in the already classic AE86s footsteps. Im betting aftermarket tuners will be standing in line developing tuning-kits and parts for these cars.

  • @Ncom1 agree with u..i can't wait to buy it

  • @martin2005mvp In a 2500 pound body 200HP makes it lotta fun but only worth $18-20k. My Mercedes SL500 had 320HP but with 4500 pounds weight (including 2 passengers) it could hardly do 6.5sec 0-60. This car does it in 6sec.
