  • I could review Newcastle Brown in about three seconds "Pffft!!! Can someone get me a proper pint of beer please?"

It's on a par with Fosters, Carling and John Smiths Smooth for crapness.

  • @Wolfington So what would you suggest?

  • I wish I could get it in the can, I much prefer beer from a can. Even though I pour it in a glass I like cans better. I buy Guinness only in the can, when I buy it.

  • Seriously, I'm from the UK (in fact I live about 45 mins away from Newcastle) and Newcastle Brown is very mass-produced, in fact it's not even made in Newcastle anymore. I think you'll be delighted to try other (proper) british ales, especially Samuel Smith's, Theakston's, or Black Sheep if you can get hold of any of those. They're readily available on good online beer stores. I strongly urge you to try these as, compared to the aforementioned ales, Newkie Brown is seriously crap.

  • I can't believe you like newcy brown! They make it like cool aid:-

    brown powder + canal water.

  • I hear they use adjuncts (corn I think?) and caramel color instead of dark malts. I always thought it was a little weak on flavor, especially for a darker ale. But hey, to each his own. I do dig your reviews.

  • Scottish and Newcastle breweries finest

  • Life's too short to drink cheap beer.

  • In my neck of the woods, Newcastle is only available in small 12 oz. glass bottles. I've never seen it in a can. I don't like canned beer, anyway, so I'm glad my fave beer is available in bottles.

A tip for Newcastle Brown Ale fans in the U.S: Costco carries it in 24-packs for around $20.95. Regular supermarket stores carry 12-packs for around $12-$15

  • Man how can you can you not get the bottles where you live. We have em in Missouri. great beer too.

  • semi-sweet eh?

    dont get too technical now

  • this is so good, and so cheap! at least in boston compared to other "good" beers.

  • I've tried Newcastle Brown several times, can't say I was that impressed. Where I live, it's the beer choice of trendy trust fund hippies.

  • you have 2 try it out of the bottle

  • Proper fekkin beer! Nothing comes close! I was brought up on it and I'll drink it till I die!!!

  • Lee

In the words of the late great Steve Marriott "Newcastle Brown it'll sure smack you down". I've loved the taste of this brew since back in the early 70's and I couldn't agree with you more.

    Rock On

    Randy

  • @NewfieRican Cheers.

  • Can is class too.

  • better out of the can..less skunky taste

  • A Beer wae Baws man..

  • NEWCASTLE, NEWCASTLE NEWCASTLE!

We are the geordies, the Geordie boots boys, oh we are mental, oh we are mad! We are the loyalist football supporters the world has ever had!

  • have to check this out before you die hahahaha

    it could be tomorrow

  • I bought 3 beers today. Another cn of fullers london porter, a bottle of st.peter's winter ale 2 review tomorrow probably and cus it was like 25cents on sale. for 2.75 ands not $3 like usally is got a new castle brown ale can. I don't ee it or sale in many p;laces mabye just were i got it and they oinly have lots o cans. Will have it on a video and probably revewing it tonight. Dont know brown ales as far as i can recall. cheers

  • I drink this on a weekly basis....good shit and easy to find

  • The only real problem that I have had with Newcastle is the clear bottle. I have had a lot of "skunky" Newcastles. Never had the can though.

  • "It's one of the finest beers made today" , you kidding me right lol? Im not saying its a bad beer, but as far as taste goes, there really isnt much taste in newcastle that makes it stand out as a great beer. I usually recommend this beer to people who are new to drinking ales just because where it lacks in taste it makes up in drinkability

  • Out of a bottle is always better

  • I dig the Duvel glass. Also, you don't want the bottle, for whatever reason, they use a clear bottle and it sometimes skunks the taste if not taken care of properly. The right way to go about this beer is out of the can.

  • lucky for you that you can't find it in the bottle...it's horribly skunky. i can't find the can anywhere but it is pretty good out of the draught mini keg. again i don't agree with anyone who says it's better out of the bottle as it is SKUNKY unless you get it quickly after bottling. stupid clear bottle.

  • i wonder how this beer would taste if it had nitro instead of carbonation like the guinness draughts

  • One thing I can't stand is a freakin beer snob.

  • @baredd79 Me either.

  • @baredd79 Define beer snob. I really don't like most of the macro stuff, like Coors, Bud, Miller etc. I prefer something that is more complex. Not a beer that has been crafted out of cut corners and cheap ingrediants.

  • @Dashua28 I think you just answered your own question.

  • @baredd79 You call it a beer snob, I call it someone who doesnt want to fall for overhyped american piss color no taste lager propaganda!

  • @Superapeaholic If you'd like to send me a check in the mail to supplement the difference on a more expensive craft beer, private message me and I'll give you my address to send the check. Otherwise it wouldn't be economically viable for me to keep dropping 15 bucks for a six pack every time I run out. I have no qualms with having a High Life with my ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. An 18 pack for 11 bucks? works for me. Especially when I'm at the house and not at a fancy restaurant.

  • @baredd79 one thing I can't stand are unadventerous people who are happy just drinking shit lagers all the time when they could be drking GOOD beer instead.

  • @severedtesticles I've taken the round the world beer tour at Old Chicago. I've also drank everything from Dogfish Head IPA's to PBR. Bottom line, I'm not dropping 17 bucks for a 6 pack every time I run out at the house. If you think I should, Inbox me. I'll give u my address to send the check for my consumption. Otherwise, get off ur uppity trip Thurston B. Howell, III.

  • @baredd79 where are you buying beer where the 6 packs cost 17 bucks?!

A 6 pack of Dogfish Head or Sierra Nevada shouldn't run any more than 8 bucks...a 6 pack of PBR rice beer costs what? 5? For an extra 3 bucks you get an infinitely better product made with care and pride by people who care about beer. I'm not saying I've never drank PBR or and Bud/Miller/Coors beer, but you'll never hear me saying they're good.

  • I agree, it's my favorite hands down.

Gosser Dark is good but it's crazy expensive.

  • lmao u have to check this out before you die...lmao

  • aye ! if yi had got one in a glass bottle nice and chilled oot the fridge you would huv gave it a 5

    nukie broons are the bis

  • SHEARER!.... TOON!

  • WE ARE THE GEORDIES, THE GEORDIE BOOT BOYS!

  • i love it !!

  • Beautiful Drink :) England Produce Great Beers. John Smiths Smooth Awesome Drink Try it :)

  • Yes, I must agree it is awesome. I buy it all the time now. It's like the chocolate milk of beers, this is what every beer should strive to become. Is that possible?

  • geordie brew, nout better mate!

  • It is quite simply the bollocks my friend. You should definately try the bottled version has it tastes even better especially when chilled and may i ask your nationality because you seem to know good beers for a yank unless of course your Canadian then i apoligise for my mistake as i too have drunk quite a few nukies 2nite also.

  • @experimentfive Yes, I'm a Canadian. I personally don't find that nationality in this day and age matters a whole lot for anything, let alone knowing about great beer. I've encountered just as many clueless Europeans as I have North Americans.:)

    Cheers.

  • @elharlock dose fullers, new castle, or dab do any oak aged beer,s

  • @zeinbrug Newcastle*

  • @experimentfive I prefer the can over the bottle only because I find, and this is only sometimes, that the bottles taste a little skunked because they use the clear bottles.... But maybe that's just my opinion.

  • Out of 5 stars I would give this beer a 6!! Back when I started drinking it, it was hard to find, but now I can enjoy it just about anywhere in my neck of the woods.

Bravo Newcastle! You gave me some very fun nights, well the ones I can remember. lol

  • Maybe next time you review a beer, don't drink a bunch of them first?!?! Just kidding! Great review! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this beer! It's 9 dollars a 6 pack where I live so I usually go for the Yuengling which is amazing as well, and only 6 bucks at the beer shop because it's domestic. At a bar, they always charge Yuengling as an import though, dang crooks! Review more beers!!!! :)

  • @joey4421 That was a problem with my early reviews...I tended to drink before I even got to the actual review. Oh well.:)

  • Well I took your advice elherlock......" I checked it the fuck out"!! I must say you have very good taste in beer my friend! Picked up a poverty pack today, and will be saving the other 5 for my BBQ'd venison burgers this weekend. Sadly enough, I am going to have to share it with some close friends, so I will need to buy more on Friday. Cheers!

  • @flatliner35 Sadly, when TSA 'checked it the fuck out', he pretty much trashed this fine English Brown. Some people wouldn't know a good beer if you stuck it up their ass. LOL

  • @PeiHomeBrewer TSA didn't like this beer? I am shocked! LOL! Brain dead sacks such as TSA, should just stay away from beer and YouTube period. As far as "sticking it up his ass, I'm sure that's what he does with his empties. :)

  • Sprecher Amber is a great beer and very similar to New Castle. And why did you give it a 4 out of 5 when you said it was the best beer ever?

  • @JayZoop I don't believe I said it was the best beer ever.

  • @elharlock But you said it was one one of your favorite beers and you don't even give it a 5 out of 5.

  • @JayZoop And? Why can't a favourite beer get a 4 out of 5? Even if it is a personal favourite, I try to be realistic about it's quality overall. That being said, I probably rated it too high anyway. That's a common problem with my very early video reviews.

  • @elharlock I think u were persuaded by import beer fanatics that Think sweet or popular beers cannot be top notch. If a beer tastes frickin great then it deserves a great score. Newcastle is nowhere near bad quality. It deserves 5 star

  • @JayZoop I think 4 out of 5 is a pretty great score. :)

  • @elharlock Tell me shat is a 5 out of 5 beers and I will be impressed with your videos. Afterall I'm looking for great beers.

  • "check it the fuck out" haha.. will do will do

  • This is interesting to me. You can't get it in bottles where you're at, and that's all I can get it in where I'm at. I didn't even know they sold it in cans.

  • Iv never seen it in a can! Its an awsome beer! Its the only beer ill drink. Hurts the wallet but the quality is worth it.

  • You need to learn a little more about the craft beer world before making the assertions that you do in this review. Newcastle is a mediocre brown ale at best, and in terms of all ales in the world it's not even close to the upper echelons.

  • HOLY F*&^#% SHIT ITS A CAN!!!!!!!! i have never seen it in a can i can only find it in the classic clear bottles

  • i officially despise this BEER! GREAT review tho

  • oi SPED! great review, do one on smithwicks next time. thanks

  • i loved this beer but the last few 6 packs i bought were a little skunky smelling and tasting

  • @zombieturd7 I take it you buy the bottled version?

  • yup and this stuff must be a direutic cause every 5 minutes i gotta go lol russian stout doesn seem to bother me though

  • @zombieturd7

The skunky taste comes from the clear glass. Light turns beer skunky. That's why most bottles are brown to protect from light breakdown. Newcastle needs to use brown bottles, but it would take away from the product package.

  • I think it tastes like coffee and dark chocolate...mmmmmm

  • One of the best ales made! Get the bottle next time if you can...

  • i love the stuff but i can only get it in shops cos pobs dont stock it round my ends 4 sum reason

  • i can only get it in the bottle. i want the damn can. you know its better form a can right? it keeps the beer protected from the light.

  • i live next to newcastle so its one of the cheapest drinks in the pub. its my tipple of choice every friday

  • "check this out before you die!" ahahaha, well put man! definately an amazing beer, its my fav anyways!

  • I figure that it tastes beer in the bottle no?

  • This is indeed a great beer! I'm Hispanic and I was so used to drinking Corona and other Mexican beers ( which are also great! ) but ever since I tasted Newcastle, I'm faithful to this delicious ale.

Thank you British people! Thank you!! :-)!

  • Love Newcastle. It was the first non-Canadian beer I ever drank (the Labatt recipe of Guinness doesn't count - that sucks).

Try Garrison Nut Brown. I like it better than Newcastle, at least in the cans.

  • Wow, I havent seen the cans yet. Excellent, Excellent Beer. One of my favorites. Somewhat pricy, drink to enjoy and not to get shithoused.

  • Im Drinkin it Right Now..!!!love it

  • what is better bottle or can?

  • I've never had it in a bottle, so I can't tell you.

  • it will blows the bum of ya

  • dark caramel colour

its not the best ale ive tasted but its my favourite, not to many beers will beat it but they will match it like be the same

its like an oak flavour, kinda smoked flavour that bark taste

the bottle is the real deal, good from the bottle or in a pint glass, many drinkers like to drink newcastle from a half pint glass and top it up now and again

  • first time ive seen the can version

  • Newcastle make the best stuff but i nt try the beer yet

  • you obviously dont know what you are talking about. New castle brown ale is not that good of a beer. You should try out a few microbreweries.

  • you want it out of a bottle much nicer

  • i love Newcastle, thats why i decided to get the star tattooed on me

  • oh this brings bk memories. me m8 used 2 buy a crate of bottles from manners every sat n drink it at te keep, then get chased by charvs and/or police. i miss te gud ol days

  • I picked up a single bottle of this today. It was a clear bottle so I was a little concerned it would be skunky. There was no skunk, but the beer just tasted old to me. It was watery and didn't have much flavor. I think my beer store but their supply on sale! If I ever see it in a can, I'll try it again!

  • This is one of those ones where more people tell me the can version is better than the bottle. I've yet to be able to compare them.

  • its supposed to be a bit watery like the texture not the flavour tho

it shouldnt taste diluted at all

  • newcy brown m88888 !

  • You brit's make a fine beer. It has to be like my favorite beer. To bad it costs so much here... but worth every penny though :D

  • i prefer it in tha bottle lyk, shame ya cant get it ova there, nevamind mate theres no diffrence in the taste

  • you dont want the can, you want the bottle. Newkie Broon tastes better out of glass. Mind you its blooming dangerous!

  • I'm from Newcastle, England, so know a little bit about this stuff. The bottle is clear so you can check how clear your beer is before you buy. If it has been stored in nice cool dark conditions by your vendor, it should no way be 'skunky', but crisp, malty and flavoursome!! ...Can't beliebve you drinkin it out of a Duvel glass though!?!?! which by coincidence is my favourite beer of all time ...check the pic on my profile page!! ...cheers!!

  • Yeah I agree mate!. I'm from the North East of England, and you sort of have to look good and hard to see which bottle is the clearest. Believe you me, i've had enough bottles of dog in my time that were quite frankly off. But when it's great, it's great!

  • Yeah, that would be your best bet.

  • One of the best beer in the world!!!

    From beer's amateur, Quebec, Canada

  • 4.5 out of 5. for newcastle but in my book guinness is still top dog.

  • We can get newcastle bottles in Ontario at the beer store, but I never notice any difference and bottles cost more. This stuff is quite good, but personally I find it is too strongly carbonated, for me the perfect ale is something like Fuller's London Pride, smooth as can be, with a very light level of carbonation. But Newcastle is none too bad, building on this style I really love the Nut Brown Ale, Samuel Smith's being one of the best beers of that syle out there.

  • one of the best beers slips down beautifull, another beer from the north east to check out is double maxim it tastes even better than newkie brown.

  • well this beer is ok but i like belgian style beers it has more flavor to me and im sorry but im pretty drunk but i think this is not that much flavor rather drink st.bernardus or leffe

  • I'm in Canada too and all I can get is cans now as well ... I pretty much try to avoid cans and I can detect a taste difference, what a shame! Wish they'd go back to bottles.

  • Love your videos. Keep em coming! You're educating me

  • have you ever tried Theakstons Old Peculiar?either way i was reading a writen review and it got a 10/10 i cant seam to find it but if you can, please review it!

  • Nope, I've never found it/tried it. But everytime I coem across soemthing new I will review it, so if I find it, it will be reviewed!

  • ya not suppose to drink newky with a big head

    just abit of one

  • Newcastle deff the best beer to drink in any situation, can drink with breakfast, dinner, watching a movie, or getting wasted at the pub.

Great nutty, woody taste, with a sweet afterhint also. I LOVE IT hahaha

Why can't other American's man up and drink a true beer instead of that watered-down BS bud light, what a bunch of pussies. I feel like I'm the only one drinking real beer when I go to a bar.....

  • nice beer prefer from bottles than cans

  • best beer in the world

  • you wouldn't want the bottles - they're clear and the light skunks up the beer. Much better in cans (but poured into a glass, not out of the can)

  • Damn. Sometimes you can get lucky with some clear bottled brands...:(

  • mmmmmmm. tis better in the bottle like

  • After the tenth you can't taste it.

  • I'd have to agree. It's quite good.

  • It is a damn good beer yes but youv poured it into a duvel goblet... you realy shouldnt do that! goblets are for beers that are very yeasty so they can give off more gas as they do. Newcastle brown should be poured into a pint glass. best in its own pint glass. Trust me! im british! i drink it all the time. Also theres a way to pout it ;) msg me if your interested!

  • Well, I've had Newcastle many times before, sans goblet, and the goblet really didn't change the flavour to any degree that I could detect.

  • its not really about the flavour its more about keeping it at its peek! see in the goblet its likely to loose its fiz quiker! :( If you come to England and try a Newcastle brown poured right you will enjoy it more! the head is good! we like a head on our beer! then you get the foam on your nose :D YAY

  • Well, I've found the can version doesn't have much in the way of fizz no matter what glass I pour it in. I have no doubt that the bottled version and the tap (of course) has a much better head.:)

  • Thats true but i thik you can still get a etter head from pouring. if you pour half slowly down one side and then let the rest just chug in down the other side with a quik twist of the wrist you ca get a pretty decent head! thats how i tend to pour newcastle brown. also try to find the bottles :D

  • Yeah, believe me...I'm looking for it.:)

  • i'am from newcastle and drink broon all the time it should be drunk out of a scooner, which is a half pint glass, and you keep topping it up . drink cold

  • definately thee best beer ever

  • Tried it for the first time last spring, I have to agree, one of the best beers Ive ever tasted as well.

  • Newcastle brown ale is much much better than Boddingtons pub ale.......great vid

  • I have to confess to only trying this recently and its very nice from the bottle.

  • I used to be a Newcastle junkie, and it really is good if you have it ice cold...not sure about all the fancy pants "beer ettique" but I enjoyed mine ice cold right out the bottle or in a chilled beer mug. Now, since I have discovered Belgian Trappist ales, Newcastle tastes like soda water to me. LOL. But I still keep some in the house. It's very refreshing, and not too strong... no doubt about that.

  • Very little compares to Trappist ales as far as overall character goes. Those do tend to make poor Newkie Brown look rather one-demensional, don't they? But, sometimes we all need something good, but not fancy for a session beer. Newkie is one of those for me.:)

  • LOL for real, man, I agree. That's exactly why I always keep some Newcastle in the house. It goes with anything, perfect to refresh after yardwork or just chilling. Soda and aspartame is killing people man, with all that sugar and BS...can't go wrong with ale in moderation. It's stood the test of time. My personal favorites in excellent "everyday" beers are: Newcastle, Sierra Nevada pale ale, Modelo, and Tsing Tao. Man, Tsing Tao is the bomb when it's ice cold.

  • It really shouldn't be poured in such large amounts at one time. The idea is to have it super chilled and then take "nips" a bit at a time.

Not sure it's such a great beer, though. Capucijn might be a better brown ale.

  • Good review. I will definitely try this one out in the nearest future; I even got a Newkie glass for cheap today +)

  • Cool! I've never seen a Newkie Brown glass before. Is it just a standard English pint glass with the NB logo?

  • That's what one would tend to think (including myself) BUT the one I've got looks more like a pilsner glass. I've got no explanation why, really, oh and it's only 330ml, so it's good for one bottle. I'm guessing this is not the standard glass (which would be a pint glass) but nevertheless it's real...

  • Alright now that I've tried it, I can say with all responsibility - it's great!

  • Okay, now I've picked up a pack of cans with a bonus pint glass. So yeah, THAT one is a standard pint glass with the logo +)

  • my favorite beer...altho ive never seen it in a can before

  • i dont like that stuff i enjoy my homebrewed lagers and stouts

  • great beer im enjoying one right now!! haha

  • People from Newcastle are known as Geordies & no self respecting Geordie would ever call their beloved beer 'Newkie Brown'! Only southerners call it that! In the north-east of England its simply known as 'Broon' or Dog. I love it but it gives me terrible hangovers so I've gotta restrict myself to 1 or 2 bottles, but if it's good enough for Clint it's good enough for me!

  • Newcastle brown ale = 5/5

    Newcastle united = 1/5

  • You fucking Smoggy peado!

1 out of 5 is still 1 more than shitty Boro!

But thanks for Viduka, now go & have yourself a cry into your parmo!

  • I will enjoy my parmo and laugh at you because viduka has done fuck all for you. enjoy relagation. oh and nice drink really nice.

  • I have to agree, its one of the best and what ilke about it is that it is not too dark that it taste like guiness or sierra nevada. my favorite next 2 dos equis

  • I used to love Dos Equis. I keep hoping I'll find it in my neck of the woods again so I can review it...

  • Hmmmm. I don't know what to say, this isn't anything special for me, the drinkability is good, but there isn't too much on taste. The flavor that comes through is good malt and hops are proportioned excellently, the sweet smell is good and smoothing. I would more than likely drink this as my summer beer, along with anchor steam that is, but I prefer more taste. Give it a 3.75 out of 5.

  • Try Abbot Ale, it's got awesome flavor, just packed with flavor, thats my favorite Ale. English import as well. Greene King check it out.

  • Best drink in the world.

Bottled is best though! pour half into a pint glass then keep topping up as you drink.

    1927.

  • Newcastle Brown Ale in a can???????

    Sacreligious. But, my favorite beer.

  • Yeah, but I've got to take what I can get.:)

  • Got a bottle of it now!

  • yummy!!!!:)

  • I love Newcastle, luckily I can get it in bottles at my nearby liquor store. It's best served in a pint glass.

  • Agreed!

  • Woah, where do you live? I only have bottles here in Jersey. I give it 5 out of 5. I would kill for cans to make a good draft.

  • I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada.

  • Wait till you try it in the bottle!!

Thanks for the vid, good stuff.

  • i love newcastle brown ale. Gets me in loads of shit tho. lol

  • l live in the U.K. and its available in bottles in every off license (liquor store). Its a beautiful sweet ale. I was in New York recently and it was widely available on draft. You will never see this beer on draft in the U.K. so there you go..................

  • Really? Interesting. Thanks for the info!

  • Agreed sir! the cans might be better actually because the damn bottles are clear. Keep it up!

  • Yea, I did notice that issue with their bottles. However, I have had good results with other clear bottled beers, so I think it would be work taking the risk. :)
