Gotta love the fact that the first 5 minutes of this match is essentially one big long resthold....yet the crowd's more into it than the quiet crowds you hear watching a 5-minute spotfest in WWE.
So, take a high-flyer, put him in the ring with a man with a very limited moveset, and make a match where the ring can't be exited and there are no ropes to be used.
Gotta say, FMW isn't making the best first impression for me.
I have the original VHS of this. I imported it direct from Japan for like $30, but it was worth every damn penny. Onita's retirement match! I don't know Japanese, but I watched all the post-match drama, too (which went on for like 10 minutes).
FMW essentially died with Hayabusa's career in 2001. During a match, Hayabusa slipped on the ropes while attemping a Quebrada/Lionsault, and landed head first, breaking his neck. Soon after, business plummeted, and a few months later, FMW closed its doors.
I'm responding to the guy who has this account, he is nice enough to let us DL the video from a link if we e:mail him, as it says in the vid. description. However, if you DL the new FREE version of Real Player SP, you can have the DL software installed to get a new link on ANY page w/ a video, the Real Player "DL this Video" link appears above ANY standard video on the net. I have DL'd over 500 wrestling vid.s from here, then I convert the .flv to .avi. mpeg, etc.. and burn to DVD
Great deathmatch and Onita was way ahead of his time and so was Hayabusa. One of the many reasons why i respect Onita so much is because he was from an era where deathmatch wrestling/hardcore wrestling was just starting up and even though Onita was working with low talented wrestlers (e.g. Mr Pogo and Tiger Jeet Singh), he still always gave it his all and 90% of the time having a dam good and violent match...FMW was cool, but the new, better breed of deathmatch wrestling is now in BJPW..
I love how Hayabusa just no sells the main gimmick of the match. It's like they're not even trying at anything. It sucks that Hayabusa lost the ability to wrestle performing such garbage.
@RawwestHide actually the deathmatch is actually a well enjoyed style of match in Japan and has quickly caught on here in promotions like CZW and IWA Mid South and a few others
the dude that looks like a mad scientist about to attempt something insane is the referee. onita is dressed like a wrestler. And hayabusa looks badass ninja
Gotta say this match doesn't look like they planned what to do. 1. The referee told Onita to pull harder on the submission. 2. The Guys have bruises and most likely not razor created. 3. THis match is naaaaaasty!!!!!!
8:05 the dude pulls some of his costume off the wire after the explosion. its funny how he acts dead, then comes to live to pull his little belt thing, then plays dead agian
hayabusa said he wants to wrestle one more match. he's probably the only person i believe will after a broken neck. Long live hayabusa, the bird that never dies!!!
what about Austin? OK, it was not his best but he wrestled with a broken neck. and so did Sabu. and I think Edge broke his back or his neck, I don't remember which one of them
Look at how many times and who ran into the cage..... Both @ 5:39, Hayabusa @ 8:04, Onita @ 12:02. Finally Hayabusa runs into the cage just as its explodes!!! 15:08 Watch as Onita clotheslines the 1st ref when the cage explodes. The spare ref comes in thru the door after the soot clear away.
By any chance do u have the match with Hayabusa vs Mr. Gannosuke double titles match? That was one of my favorite matches that I saw on the VHS tape "The Flying Assasin Hayabusa."
This match is older than you think, too: this was Onita's retirement match in 95. When he came back to FMW in 97, the fans referred to him as Mr. Stupid Liar...
There it is! The ultimate in jump the shark moments for FMW. Onita retires beating the secondary pick for his Japan FMW successor. Like Onita cared once he sold all his stock the the VP. Why didn't Onita just let Hayabusa have the win? He never really was going to retire and about every Japanese fan shit on his word once he came back. Wtf!?!??!
shawn michaels reffed a match with them once. i dont really care much for Goldberg but it could be cool to see him go their style if FMW was still around
When it comes down to Sabu and Hayabusa. It's simple. Sabu fucked up -a lot-, resulting is some scars, minor injuries, and a few serious broken bones. Hayabusa went that far -EVERY- night he was in the ring. It's sad; and fucked up if you've ever seen the vid; that he messed up his Moonsault. Anyway; Sabu is as awesome as they come. But Hayabusa is a God; and you can't take that away from him.
When comes to wrestling either from U.S or Japan. These are the two countries that produces excellent wrestlers. Some says it's a fake, why don't they try to come inside the ring face some of these wrestlers. Everything is hazaderous when comes to wrestling.
i've seen worst look at the bjw wrestlers they damn near slaughter each other. at least this match ain't jus about weapons you actually see wrestling in this match before you see them go into the cage and the bombs going off. bjw is non stop violents and much worser then this in a way aww and those are special types off explosive only made in japan thats why you never seen a match like this in the states
P.S. It saddens me to say Hayabusa will never wrestle again, he suffered a horrific neck injury when he botched a second rope spring-board moonsault and landed on his head, he can only just walk with a cane. Its a shame but unfortunatly that comes from having such a high-risk style.
FMW did not have shoot fights as such so the result was pre-determined or booked. But they did use little parcels of C4, Magnesium flares and proper barbed wire, so in a sense the term 'deathmatch' wasn't far from the truth. Shame about Hayabusa.
i mean not as far as the "explosives" go, but have been in several "death" type matches...i mean no offense but it just sounded like to me either you actually KNOW the goings on behind these matches or just looked up the info online.
HAHA, no. I have never been in the squared circle myself, I especially would not get in one with Atsushi Onita or Hayabusa lol. But I followed FMW, W*NG and ECW back in the day, I grew up with them and I do have a lot of friends in the UK wrestling sceneso I pretty much know whats going on and what tricks certain feds use.

LoL. Well, he can sing. I don't know if he can sing-sing though. I'm not sure if it's true, but I've heard that a lot of Japanese celebrities go into music once their initial careers die down.
