  • sooooo awkward.....

  • wow I'm thinking of doing homestay if I go to study abroad in Japan in the fall. I'm taking my 2nd level japanese and I hope I have enough vocab ready to converse with my new family. I'm sure you were nervous but I can imagine it's fun at the same time right? haha. I hope I get along with mine too :)

  • Youre a lucky girl!

We fell JUST short of money for the exchange program for me to go to Japan in my junior year... =[

  • whoa! you understood them >??????

  • am going to stay with homestay in July in tokyo but im only 12 staying for 6 days

  • do you know how to apply for a homestay?

  • ooh no sorry. I have no idea. Mine was all organised through my school.

  • How was it? I'm so nervous to go!

I'm going on a 4 and 1/2 month home stay trip and I'm really nervous. Are there any tips you might have for me in regards to how to act (I know the basic Japanese culture and behaviour) but some first hand experiences that you made mistakes on might help! Thanks!

  • @KowaiTori oooh.. Well you will find EVERYONE to be really nice! I didn't come across one rude person (besides on the train in the morning maybe.. THAT was crazy.. rush hour-could barely move!!)

Maybe don't do what I did with my other host family (who were very traditional, unlike this one)..They took me to a restaurant and offered me some weird noodle soup thing with fish eyes and all sorts in it :| I didn't want to try it.. haha.. So you should try whatever they offer you! :-)

  • So, what will I do if I don't like what they offer me (after I've tried it, can I turn it down?) I have a 1 hour 10 minute commute to my school! HOLY GEEZ

  • Yeah you can . They realise that their food may be unusual for you..I did turn some food down. I felt bad but they were absolutely fine about it!

  • I was only there for 2 weeks..but you will LOVE it. I can't wait to go back this year hopefully! Such a great experience! :)

  • I've been thinking about doing one of these homestays, but I'm really nervous and I think it would be really hard to study while I'm over there. :(

How old were you when you went?

  • Woah. over 2000 views!? I don't get why so many peopl have watched it. haha

I was 16 at the time..Now I'm nearly 19 and I'm going back to Japan this year to stay with my Japanese friend. So I won't be nervous then :)

    It's a great experience!

  • Hmm, I'll be 16 this year! How long were you over there for?

  • Only 2 weeks. Was a school trip :)

  • Ahh k. Thanks for all the info! :D

  • wow, interesting... how lucky they were nice and funny

  • where about's in japan were you? also, which school?

  • wow i wanna go to japan for a homestay .. did 6you have to learn the language? did any one speak english?

  • It was a great experience!

Well I have learnt Japanese for about 7 years. So I knew a bit when I went over there..and it was a school trip too. Some spoke English, some better than others. It was hard to order food from McDonalds. lol

  • did you understand any of it?? XDD I would have a hard time

  • haha Yeh some of it. I have learnt Japanese at school for about 7 years. But there is still a lot I don't know. Sometimes I was just like... waaaaat? haha

  • 7 years!! *DIES*

lol if you didn't understand a lot of that after 7 years then I am going to die xD I've only been studying for about 1 year /basics are down./

Nice vid. Was it like a study group?

  • haha yeh we only learn basics at school. Well it's starting to get a bit more complicated with my last year at school.

Not really a study group, but anyone who takes Japanese as a subject in years 9 or 10 could apply. About 22 of us got selected. We went sight-seeing and yehhh :)
