Um, no the 855 & the 850 are NOT the same vehicles. For example, all 850 series sedans VIN will begin with "YV1LS", & all 850 series wagons will begin with "YV1LW". The "S" denotes sedan, & the "W" denotes wagon. As far as the numbering goes, it has to do with the number of glass openings. I.E. - Sedans have four doors & one solid metal trunk, so we get "850". Wagons have four doors & one glass trunk or tail gate, hence we get "855".

Good info there Gordon which I ever knew, but in the UK it doesn't matter if it's a sedan or a wagon, both were named 850 and there was no 855 over here at all?

I'm a little perplexed now even if I will never need to explain it to another soul :( haha

They were designated the 854 (Sedan) and the 855 (Wagon) but both had the same badge on the outside of 850. The main difference was wagon and sedan. Also the vin was different just as Gordon said.

Is it a V6? They tend to be more problematic than the 4 pot turbos - neither are awful though - I could get over 140mph out my old V6 with a bit of tweaking - and my turbo was even better - Got the turbo glowing red hot on most runs! - You should try a T5 though - they are unbelievably good

Nope, the 2.3L I4 Red Block. Good motor for what started as a tractor motor and is half of a V8, lol. I wouldn't touch one of the V6s, personally, since they're not easy to work on and are problematic. Though if I had more money I would consider one of the 16 valves if it came with a new timing belt and lifetime free replacement, lol. Thinking about getting a 98 or 2000 wagon with the top-of-the-line T5, but since my 90 is paid off, and those aren't... I need more info on tuning my I4. lol

I got a 1994 854 GLT, is a great car not as fast as T5 or the R or even the regular turbo but 850s are great cars. Built well and I work on those everyday.

It reminds me of the video's that volvo used to send us when I worked in a volvo parts dept during the time that they launched the 850. Test drove the glt and loved it. Had a 480, 2 240 glt's and a 164e.
