The unrealistic physics, awful controls assigned to the driving which makes driving and shooting at the same time really hard and irritating. I did adjust to the controls and than it wasn't so bad but this was in my opinion the worst part of an otherwise excellent game.
Just think of it as a big ass warthog and you should be fine xD Just use the camera (RS) to steer, use (LS) only when dodging missiles or dealing with the big worm.
@ablestmage No, no, no, no. I meant that either you're really bad at steering or this is not the same game that I played or it was tweaked for the PC.
Have to agree here. I didn't find steering a problem at all. All I see here is somebody driving very badly. Driving into obstacles then complaining when the vehicle goes all over the place does not constitute bad controls. Odd that you feel like it's the game to blame. I sure hope you don't have a car!
@ablestmage i read some were that bioware made the controls hard because in real life it would be hard to dont know if its true but i like the controls
@ablestmage It was meant like... "YOU can't steer it." It's much easier to deal with using non-analog controls and having more than one finger on the buttons.
While I agree that the controls and the weird physics/camera glitch seen at the last moment of the video are proof of poor design, I think that all that's really needed to use the Mako is some situational awareness, just avoid situations where the turret is aiming to the side of the mako while you drive or jump and you should avoid most of the clusterfuck regarding this.
i really don't get why everyone has raged so much about the mako having horrible controls, i know they're not the best, but (on the PC at least) it was really quite simple as long as you didn't attempt anything blatantly stupid (though half the time, because of the slightly weird physics, it would work OK by blind luck anyway)
I like the Mako, but I swear whoever designed those fucking mountains on the uncharted worlds needs to be punched squarely in the throat, it's the worst level design I've ever seen in any game. (The mountains, I mean.)
This is my favorite game, but the mountains piss me off.
haha the scene with the geth machine on the front of the car is awesome :D you should just not drive over subjects on the floor and everything is... well its ok :D
only one thing that I realized.. check out my video response where I play with the Mako on PC.
on PC if you hit the spacebar the macko jumps with it's jetpack or something but I never see you using it in your videos.. do you have the same thingy on X360?
I heared from my friends who played Mass Effect on Xbox that the controlling is strange and not so confortable like on PC. I have a friend who played through ME on PC 1st time, and next time he bought an X360 and told me he was disappointed about the controlling of Mako. I don't much about it though.. but i had no problems with the Mako except from the little strange phisics of it :P (sometimes you feel like you are driving on the Moon, but thatS all)
It's free roaming for the most part, although parts of it seem forced-to-go-this-way. You can visit planets that don't have anything to do with missions, and you can generally roam those planets as you please although there aren't a lot of things to do there. Aside from the Mako driving, I really enjoyed the game and the story is really good. I've got a 26-part series of the entire Mass Effect story line, if you want to know it, some gameplay included, to get a feel for it.
Looking back at it I find the mako controlling quite funny but during a serious play through it got annoying hella fast.

Well obviously the geth's mass effect field is interfering with that of the Mako's thus forcing your vehicle into a state of gravitational flux!

I do not dislike mako, although unrealistic. I just can't stand climbing mountains on secondary-mission planets.
With mako this is difficult and without sometimes impossible. this is what I dislike apart from long elevator runs. The rest is absolutely cool.

I've done a exact replica of when you go through the conduit and crush the geth but it flipped back when it was finished

Yeah it's there, I normally only use it when climbing or descending mountains, or jumping over missiles coming down long hallways ^_^
