The list of talent on that previoud list is a little off. There is no Guy in this one and this predates Turner. Also Lewis comes first and Eubanks is last.
@gopconservative78 ad hominem... wow...such an INTELLIGENT argument. Then again, from your screen name, I'm not surprised, I guess. Study your history, learn about the ARSENAL OF DEMOCRACY. Good day, sir/ma'am.
As much as our state sucks these days, I still can't suppress the Michigan pride running through my veins. No matter where I go from here, Michigan will always be my true home. I love you, Michigan!
Here's the order of who is who in this video (at least, who I know) 0:08 Doris Biscoe 0:09 Guy Gordon 0:12 Rob Kress 0:17 Dayna Eubanks 0:25 Steve Garagiola 0:33 John Kelly/Marilyn Turner 0:36 Jay Berry 0:40 Bill Bonds 0:45 Jerry Hodak 0:47 Mary Conway 0:51 Frank Turner 0:53 Rich Fisher 0:56 Diana Lewis
Does anyone remember the name of the blonde bushy haired man (around .13, just where the horse racing scene shows the rail with three people behind it) who reported the news (sports, or weather?) on the local news stations probably back in the late 70s to early 80s. I just realized he was a reporter, but I can't remember his name!
The Boblo Boat! Man I can't count the times I went to boblo it was too many. Even got left on the Island once by my inept parents. Can you imagine leaving your kids on the island because it's the last boat and they couldn't come up with a better plan?
So many memories! As a little girl, I must have taken this ad very seriously because I've got some serious hometown pride. No town like Motown indeed!
Interesting to mention "We're with You" in the promo, seeing that ABC (WXYZ's longtime affiliate, and former parent company) had that promo campaign slogan during the 1984-85 season.
I was born and raised in Detroit. I now live in Denver, Co and I'm starting to get homesick. The thing that I miss the most about Detroit was watching Hockey Night in Canada and hanging out in Windsor.
@flowglower that would have been more relevant in 1985 actually. I'm from Detroit and it (well downtown at least) has improved very much recently. We may have had a couple of shitty mayors but despite the bad economy and a rough past Detroit looks a little better now. I'm still on Grand River and Southfield and don't plan on moving anytime soon.
My Grandmother Lived On Louisiana Off John R & In Late 1970's Trees Were Planted Outside Every House On Her Street. Is 61 Louisiana House Still Standing? She Had A Pear Tree In Backyard & Had A Garden There.
Thanks for posting! Does anybody remember the promos from the late 80's/early 90's featuring the choir and the lyrics had "stand up together, one community...I'll stand up for you and you for me"? I liked that version and I'd love to see it again.
Yes, Detroit was bustling -- it had a revival in the 1980's (after the dreadful late 1960's and early 1970's). Then it went down again after that. Then it had another revival with Comerica Park and Ford Field. Now it is going down again.
Err...perhaps you haven't seen the northwest side? With all the big brick homes? Not a dump by a long shot. (That's inside the city itself, NOT the suburbs).
You mean near Telegraph or so? It's OK, better than the majority of the city. Detroit might have two or three nice neighborhoods in the entire city, which you have to admit is downright pathetic.
does anyone from detroit remember the promo from the nineties with a woman in a red dress singing in a nightclub. She sings "Tell em you're from Detroit"?????
Detroit is definitely plagued by problems, no one will argue with that (Biggest at the moment is that bastard we call a Mayor). But it's my hometown and I love it.
Detroit has always had it's share of problems but it's bounced back time and again.
We had the same them song with out Detriot but Brisbane, The TV Station was called TVQ-) now its TVQ-10 (Brisbane 10) and it was in the early 1980's, Thanks for posting, Its cool
The slogan was used from early 1986 until 1988. However, that version of the jingle was more electropop and improved into the original Frank Gari "Turn to 3" jingle.
This is awesome -- takes me back to my childhood. Also, I DO love Detroit. There is nothing misleading about the video. Someone isn't getting shot or mugged 24-7, seriously. There are many great things about the city.
Let's see who I can identify here... Doris Biscoe, Rob Kress, Steve Garagiola, Jay Berry, John Kelly and Marilyn Turner, Bill Bonds (of course), Jerry Hodak, Rich Fisher, and Dayna Eubanks. And I just realized that Hodak is the only one still there. :(
