I can see maybe getting a 2 min penalty, but I've seen worse hits go with much less punishment. Mcquaids leg check was much dirtier than this. He only got suspended for 7 because of his reputation

Bad hit. No different than Chara's hit in terms of knowing where you are shoving a player on the ice. This, contrary to what others have proclaimed, was not a mutual collision while battling for the puck. Carcillo initiated and finished the hit. At some point, a player has to take the well being of an opposing player into mind, and show some kind of respect when skating toward the end boards.

Ovechkin got 2 games for pushing Campbell way softer than this. This guys just an idiot, suspension should start once he's back from Injury, hopefully he tore his MCL and ACL.

Carcillo has been a dirty player, this was NOT a dirty hit. Anyone else makes this hit and it's at most a minor boarding penalty, if a penalty at all. He didn't head hunt, Gilbert lowered his should to take out Carcillo and Carcillo hit him first, his own momentum carried him into the boards, when Carcillo hit him they were 10 feet off the boards. Look at the replay at :48.

@billythepokerkid are you high? Chris Stewart (plays for the blues) hit Niklas Kronwall from the Wings... It wasn't nearly as bad as that hit and he was suspended for 3 games. He only got suspended for 3 since he had no priors. Carcillo has a lot of priors. and it doesn't matter who the player is anyway, that's still a dirty hit.
