it's almost as if to say "hey i just want to go home get a few buddies and we'll have a party on your lawn no biggy. there will be women and beer and wait till you see the finaly where we litterally burn your house down to the ground then collectivly piss on the ashes just for kicks. I mean reaper assault is covered on your home owner's insurance right?" lol
Sup guys? I'm soverign, I came here to bring my buddies in you're galaxy. We throw a party every 50 thousand years or so. a few years back we found out our parties get a little out of control. We all get shit faced than we somehow eradicate all life in the galaxy. When we found this out we thought, well what the fuck? We all felt really bad. but than the genocide life grew on. So now when we come to party we kill the shit out of all of you. And that sums up why we kill you noobs every 50000 yrs
This is my hypothesis, the original builders of the reaper ships became indoctrinated by their own creations whenever the reapers rebelled in an event similar to the geth's rebellion against the quarians.
Just did the math (bored). Each of the Destiny Ascension's main gun shots have a force of 644 kilotons (644,000 tons), instead of the usual 36 k. At that speed, aiming would be much easier as well, making this ship the most accurate dreadnought as well as the most powerful.
PS: The Destiny Ascension's main gun is a great deal more powerful than the usual 36-kiloton (that's 36,000 tons) per shot. It's four times longer than the largest human dreadnought and much bigger as well. Instead of the usual 800m cannon and 20-kilo projectile, it could well be firing a 40-kilo shot and accelerating it to over 4 times the normal speed, exponentially increasing the resulting force of the shot to preposterous levels
General Statement: The Destiny Ascension's gun couldn't fire because the Geth and Sovereign were too close. Its range is measured in tens of thousands of kilometers, so it couldn't aim.
(Considering sovereign's sheer size, the explanation that it couldn't aim is bollocks, but that's what canon indicates.)
because if the ascension fires its main weapon (a 20 kilo slug with the force of a 36 ton nuclear weapon) it would probably destroy the citadel and every ship around it too lol
@sakaraist Then why the hell is the gun so damn big? The Ascension's main purpose is to protect the Citadel, so if it's armaments destroy the Citadel itself then, why?
I know Sovereign is just a giant lobster spaceship, but I swear, after he makes the jump in the beginning, he moves almost like he has an aura of authority.
I remember the Geth dropships from ME1, and when I saw one for the first time, me and my little FemShep Infiltrator felt so damn small. Then this came and showed how big Sovereign actually was. Damn that shit was epic... :)
Ok to all those who wished to get something epic in ME2 like this just remember... Hoth was no Death Star battle... but the lack of an epic battle in Empire was forgotten as soon as the Battle of Endor started in Return of the Jedi. ME2 sets up the pins for ME3 to knock down. When ME3 hits I hope everyone has got their diapers on cause we are all going to crap our collective pants.
I follow you a bit, but I will add to your analogy on Hoth to Mass Effect 2. The story was much, much darker, and as a player you feel a bit more connected because the ending is sort of an ultimatum.
Well, the relays themselves are based on Reaper technology. It is possible that they could adapt their own technology in order to make the journey from Dark Space.
No, just no. The Harbinger was already active at work all the way, just busy elsewhere. It was only after the Collector base was destroyed that the Harbinger saw the necessity to wake up the Reaper fleet, which it did.
I've been wondering: What happens if no-one ever sends the signal to the hibernating Reapers telling them it's time to return? Do they just remain in limbo forever? Or is there some point where they automatically awaken if too much time passes?
They most likely got the means to enter the galaxy. (how else would they position the mass relays across the galaxy in the first place?) They just weren't jumping in the scene partly because everyone had not awakened yet, and partly because they are in no real hurry. And taking down a whole galaxy without the Citadel as the entry point will take a long time. So might as well take it slow and be very thorough, and indoctrinate along the way, create an army to support them etc.
Understandable, there. Still, judging the many references in-game mentioning 'in 1 year this, in 1 year that'; Would it be possible for the Reapers to start in 1 year, or would we, more logically put, have around a 5 to 10 year time gap?
Either way, agreed; they have all the time in the galaxy, so there's no rush for them. Definitely agreeing with your analysis there, Cordar.
That would depend on how effective their preparations are. Information must be gathered, as well as allies.. mostly indoctrinated slaves to use as soldiers or infiltrators.
Sovereign had to work for centuries to get what he needed. But with a fleet of hundreds or thousands, the preparations might just take a couple of years at least.
I think that the distance from DARK SPACE to the MILKY WAY is SO MASSIVE that it is taking them a long long long fucking time. In conventional terms, it would take hundreds and hundreds of years at light speed to reach it. Possibly thousands of years.
This is fiction, though, so the Reapers may have the ability to fly in or something.
If every race travelled at light speed, then they would not had gotten anywhere in any reasonable amount of time. The races in Mass Effect travels faster than light speed.
But besides that, the Reapers either got the speed to move even faster, or they got a "back door" somewhere.
well if a repear ship look like dat of course they darken da sky they so DAMN BIG! i dont know how da fuck we gonna fair against da army if 1 ship almost killed everyone!
Well to be fair, it was probably the geth ships that inflicted the most damage initially. Sovereign just plowed right through everything to get inside the citadel.
Of course that doesn't leave us in a much better scenario, just imagine if sovereign had actually mopped up everything before going in.
Sovereign's main objective was to bring the other Reapers into Citadel Space. The Citadel fleet was probably not considered a threat. Later in this battle Sovereign was taking down those heavy attack ships with one shot. Those ships are over 1 mile long according to the data base info in the game. To one-shot a ship that's over 1 mile long means incredible power. And i believe Sovereign actually took down about 3 ships all at the same time. The Reapers are plain scary.
