No, not this type, play sand is bad about getting dead spots and having to be stired often because it compacts. Stiring is easy though, just get a plastic spachula and run it around under the sand along the bottom, this will allow you to turn it without having to use your hand.
It is about the same for me, it took a little getting used to, but I find the sand being a bit easier. Try it in a small (10 gallon) tank first and see how you do, then convert your larger tank.
Nice collection Ed. Is that sand or crushed Coral substrate? I can't get sound in here at work. I've got the Easter Island Statue too in my 15 gallon lol.
The substrate is a mix of black sand and what looks like crushed shell, but may be crushed coral. The music is 40oz To Freedom by Sublime, since you can't hear it. I like the Easter Island statue, it kinda fits with the rocks.
No, all fake plants, the fish will pick apart any live plants that I get, so I just get the fake ones, it's better than having to replace the live ones all the time.
Thanks, this is a weekly thing on all of my tanks, but my bud tutor4011 (Lee) wanted me to post a vid of me doing it, this is just what I put together for him.
do you have to stir the sand all the time?

How long after cleaning the tank can you turn on the filter?
fishdude401 2 years ago
when the water starts to clear up a bit, probably about a hour, make sure that there is water in the filter though to keep your bacteria alive.
