Technically, the correct way to play a guitar is above the waist in order to get the correct finger positioning, but I've seen some pretty decent guitarists go below the waist. It's more for looks, but if you can do it without being sloppy as shit, then whatever floats your boat.

@avdbroek1 the thing is, with guitar: you can play low and it just looks badass! Its a lot easier to play guitar low past your waist. With bassists, due to the extra stretching that they have to do on the fretboard and longer neck, its a little bit tougher for them to play so low, with the exception of Rob Trujillo and Flea and people like that

If you play bass with a pick, you can have it even lower than guitars. However most good bassists play with their fingers, and that's when you have to jack your bass up, cause you tend to hit the strings the wrong way with you fingers if u have the bass too low.

If you slap the bass aggresively like Flea, Fieldy and Truilljo etc. It's easier to keep the bass somewhere around low and high though, so you don't lose power.

Ofc it's all about preferance though.

Actually you need to listen to Cliff Burton's work more carefully... Yes Cliff did follow the guitar parts quite often, but on songs like Orion, Call of Cthulu, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and even his solo Anethesia, Cliff displays a very good melodic sense, even with his bass solos he had very memorable melodies while displaying great technique. I like your comment about Fieldy's 'drum' style. A lot of times on albums, I have accidently confused his bass with David's kick lol. His bass style is quite hip hop influenced as well, which personally I think although it's a nice weird place to come from, it has maybe limited his true creativity. Like, he's a lot more creative at how he's playing a bass, than what he's actually playing is what I mean. But he's still one of my fave bassists. Cool vid to OP :)
