Unfortunately, you are not the best by claiming that you are good, or from your hippie daddy or local TV saying it, not even from wining chess games against Liv Tyler... you might end like the long list of "almost winner prodigies" just like this one...
Anyway realistically, 2300 ELO will barely allow you to wear cheap sport clothes for the rest of your life and live with your mother until she dies if you get what I mean.
His Dad was a tyrant, he himself was raised im Westmount Quebec, he lived a good life graduating from Westmount High School, but he remained locked in the 60's as a hippie. And raised his kids with no boundries, he did not believe in schools and saw the world as a big class room. I remember his kids at my place, he did something wrong and got a slap to the back of his head, little jeff was not allowed to show any emotion. Hopefully jeff''s deamonds aren't as bad as his dad's.
this kid left chess alone for yrs, he just entered a tourney in 2007 and finished 3rd with 4 GM's participating, they gave him a provisional rating of 2300 after a cool 10yrs away or more, that's a crazy natural talent Waitzkin's highest rating ever was like 2400 or so, thid dude walked in and is a 2300, not to mention in that game in the movie he was 2 yrs younger than josh, had a much better position but failed to finish off waitzkin and got a draw.
The father's educational philosophy is interesting. I think if you give children the tools and the confidence to learn on their own, they can't be stopped in chess, or more importantly, in life.
Age 9 he was world under 10 chess champion with an estimated Elo of 2000. After 20 years of NOT playing chess he entered a tournament, and performed at OVER 2300 Elo, but it is hard to estimate based on one tournament.
Had his father not pulled him into seclusion, he might have been a super GM, or even world champion.
Shame, I hate to see talent go to waste, but that's just how it is sometimes.

At 4:10 I have this exact electronic chess board. Bought it back in the mid 80s at Toys R Us and it still works great. :)

It's great to see this if only to show how much of "Searching for Bobby Fischer" was a fiction.

His father is an obvious douchebag.

chess prodigies normally don't come from N.A.
Jeff Sarwer can get into the 24-2500 range but that's about it.
