This technique is great to use with kids too - as young as pre-school age. Krafty Kiddos channel has a salt / chalk technique that is pretty cool where you layer bottles... reminds me a little of this.
You have beautiful artwork Vivian. Thanks for sharing your technique! I am an illustrator and acrylic artist, but I am sort of on a watercolor drive these days, so this was great to watch. You should totally invest in a good quality camera and make more videos. You are incredibly talented. :-) Hope to see more of your work again soon!
The salt technique does work well with your coral effect. I found another realisitic use for it...the lichen that is on live oak trees. It has a pale bluish-green scaly appearance that a few drops of salt mimics very well. I use cobalt blue plus a little burnt umber for the trunks and main branches, then drop on a combo of table salt and kosher salt.
blach... booriing... Plus that you have so poor quality camera or the videos quality sucks, that you cant really see the result.. Its too grainy for details like that ... :(
Your work is SO BEAUTIFUL~ Thank you so much and thanks for the demo too in REAL TIME, instead of something sped up and crazy where you can't learn...
Great video on the salt technique! We have to do some watercolor for an art integration course for elementary teachers. Your technique will add texture to my piece.
It would look very "well", not "good".

Ever try rocksalt or salt you put on your driveway to get rid of ice? Those are some huge chucks of salt, might be worth a try.

Juicy huh? Hey, I'm not Jewish and I'm on a low sodium diet, so is it ok if I use salt substitute instead?

I heard that applying salt, makes it decompose quicker... Has this ever been a considerable factor?

I always take off the salt once the paper dries.
I never had a problem. I even know people who forgot to remove the salt, I suppose eventually the paper would degrade, if you left the salt.
