OtterBox Defender for iPhone 4

My 2 and a half year old son just threw my iPhone on the floor and jumped on it with both feet multiple times. "what a great advert for that Otterbox" I thought. Phone is still mint in condition. For the record I don't work for Otterbox but if anyone from Otterbox reads this I could do with a case for my iPad. Cheers.

I'm a cop and a paramedic. I've had the defender on my iphone4 since I got it almost 4 years ago. I love this thing!!! It's been through it all. Dropped, kicked, run over, and exposed to OC lol. No problems! I love it! Only draw back is its hard to plug your head phones in, my jack is square instead of round.

Nice review. I have the Otterbox Defender case on my iPhone 4s, and while overall I think the case is just fine.. I absolutely HATED the built in screen protector. One of the best qualities of the 4s is the superb screen.. however the defender screen protector had an "oily" appearance to it for lack of a better term. Looking at a brite white screen for instance would give a grainy appearance is the best I could describe it. I cut the screen protector out with a hobby knife, and it works great.

I have an iPhone 4 in an otter box with the zagg of the screen and it fits great. I did pop off the otter box's screen though, just because I hated it!

@NerdyGuyJohn Yes. Remove the phone from the case, then firmly push the screen inward *as if you were using the phone*. It just pops right off. Then remove any excess gunk that was attaching the screen to the case.

@talisstercustauri I did that and there's this annoying glue from the screen. I got rid of some of the glue using nail clippers with the thing that folds out and used water to get rid of the glue. You think it's safe to use now if the glue is still sticky from the protector?

@NerdyGuyJohn What works really well is a product called Goo Gone. It removed all of the glue for me. I know a few people who didn't bother with using Goo Gone and their phones and zaggs are fine; I don't if they just got lucky though. I'd say if if you feel comfortable, like the glue isn't THAT tacky, go ahead and put the case on.

@blckjade05 With my case I sometimes get dust on the inside of my screen protector, but I have been using it for about half a year, and my screen protector has been coming loose and they are sending me another one. It is amazing, the only really big complant of a new case is the "brick". It makes the phone much more bulky.

I admit that I miss the prettiness of my new white latest version iPhone just out Oct 2011

after covering it with the Otterbox defender series cover. I had an Otterbox on my original 3G for three years and it protected it from dropping in the middle of a busy Chicago intersection as well as many other drops and bumps.

Knowing how many times I dropped the 3G I had to cover my brand new white pretty iPhone with the Otterbox defender series.

Don't get me wrong, but I love my Otterbox Defender Case. Prior to the case coming out, I had a ZAGG Screen Protector on my phones, and when in full sunlight, with my Display Setting brightness at 50%, I was able to see everything on my screen when taking pictures or shooting video without any glare or difficulty. Now, with the Otterbox and it's built in Screen Protector, and my Display Settings at 100%, there is so much glare it pisses me off. Why isn't anyone commenting on this issue?

The hole is not for the audio jack, it's not supposed to line up. It's supposed to line up with that mic right there. You flip up the cover for the jack.

@Moonbow321 Just learned a few things about these Defender cases. Read that they could trap moisture and heat damaging the phone, also some of the defender and commuter cases they have on Amazon.com for under $20 don't fit the new 4S, the opening for the camera and flash are too small.

So beware and go to the product's website to see what the 4s product looks like first and then buy on amazon...I'll probably end up buying a case for store price once I get the phone. *sigh*

The otterbox defender built in screen protector isn't that good for construction workers.. 2 of my friends got it on iphone 4.. It collect sand between screen-protection and screen.. So much that it damages the otterbox from the inside.. The built in design may protect your phone less than the normal screen protector.. I would pop the otterbox screen saver out and install a normal screen saver, even 2 of them If you feel that you need extra protection from impact..

Good review, excellent commentary but you could use a new camera. One question left to answer.... Does this case cause scratches on your phone from dust getting inside or on the antenna band like the bumper does?? This is obviously a long term effect, but i was JW... And is it possible to leave the back part of the invisible shield on?

The only problem I have with it is getting it in and out of my pocket! It's a huge case and I didn't want to make it any bigger with the additional belt clip case it comes with (7:56) so I keep it in my pocket, and like I said its extremely hard to get in and out! Be warned- the plastic base layer is made of pretty cheap plastic. I bought the otterbox defender for my iPhone 4 and the plastic part broke in a couple places when it dropped off of the couch. I can still use it but barely. The phone itself is fine so I suppose it served its purpose... but thought it would be a tad more durable
