It's called Automatic Level Control. When you yell into the microphone, it lowers the record volume until the average input is lowered. Result -- Woo means blanked out audio. And it's a crucially important message that is being blanked out.

Good speech it is too bad that person had to "woo" so loudly into the mic. Ron Paul is so quiet and I had the volume turned way up and the Woo felt like it was going to make me deaf every time. So who ever you are if you film something don't Woo right into the microphone if the speaking person is very quiet and hard to hear, k thx. Suppourt Ron Paul!
