  • I agree and love my 35 1.8 DX its the only one I use. I hate non fixed apeture lenses because its really hard to use manual settings when every change you make changes everything. I think SB700 is more for me than the SB 900.

  • im a newbe.. does the nikon 3100 take special lens or will any nikon lens fit? thank

  • @poochie12350 You'll want to use AF-S lenses for autofocus capability with the D3100

  • wait until you get the D3S AMAZING!!!!!!

  • marry me?

  • I would love to go shoot with you

  • i tuk a video of 4 min 1080(full hd)

whn tried to view it on ma pc it is comin out to be in supr slow thing

the sound is comin the way it was supposd to be bt the video is showin out some lag

  • i simply don't understand superzooms, get specific zooms eg. 24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8 and you will get 10x better quality.

  • @DavidHeatonPhoto That can be a lot to lug around depending on where you might be going... and I don't really see a "10x" quality difference, but it's all subjective. I like having options to bring the big guns, or bring an all-around lens and travel quite a bit lighter.

  • @TheSnapChick i completely agree if you want to just take family snaps or something, a superzoom can be very handy but if you want professional quality results i do think you need the 2.8s.

  • @DavidHeatonPhoto Yeah I agreeeeee . I had a Nikon 18-200mm lens and sold it because of the horrific Chromatic aberration. Got a 70-200 later and it is muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better. Totally worth lugging around imo

  • I use energizers and it sucks, It dies after couple shots, Now I gotta try this eneloop. Thanks

  • @shintotz Worth every penny!

  • Have you ever tried the Gary Fong "Lightsphere"?

  • @jeffrelee I have not, but I have not felt working with the SB800 and the included to be lacking. It seems to me that the lightsphere constrains the flash a bit, causing the camera to open up the aperture a bit more than normal and soak up the ambient light. I have not used one, so I'm prepared to be wrong.

  • @jeffrelee Jeff, IMO, it is way overpriced, and wastes a lot of light. Light that goes backwards is wasted, meaning, if nothing else, longer recycle times and more battery changes. It is also not as soft, in my experience, as he says. ALso, any dark ceiling is a problem. I prefer the Lumiquest products. A lot more reasonably priced, with a lot less wasted light. Get the biggest one you feel comfortable carrying around. I find I use the Quikbounce the most.

  • Hi again!

I have two questions about your favorite items, one are the batteries, i have several Ni-MH batteries and i use a charger to charge them. Are these batteries compatible with any charger?

The second one is, why have you bought only the D300s and have not bought the D300 earlier? I have the D300... :-)

    Thanks

  • @jbondpt The Eneloop batteries should not be used with a "quick" charger. This will reduce their life. I bought the D300s because it was the newest camera when I was shopping. I was very happy with my D2x (and still am), so I did not feel compelled to get the D300 when it was released.

  • i hope i don't offend you or anything, but i'm just wondering how can you afford all these nice shiny gadgets like the ipad, iphone 4, d300s, and lenses all together? lol

  • @dnwphoto No offense taken. :) I pound the pavement every day doing photography, and most of these gadgets help in some way - lenses help more than something like the iPad, but they all have their role.

  • u dont like lithum ion batteries???? what focal length is that small fixed length lens?

  • @aarmington Yes I do, but they are not available in standard sizes, so they cannot be used in "generic" applications, requiring AA batteries, like my SB-800 speedlights. The small lens focal length is 35mm. Specs at 3:02.

  • i know you love so much the D300s. Well i am too. I am currently looking for one, but heard a lot of reviews and comments saying "why waste your extra $700 to buy D300s instead of buying D90?...the features are about the same except for the fps ability and some af points" having said that, I come to a big junction on which one to go for, d90 or d300s. fyi, i have been using d80 for 2 years now, and decided to upgrade. Please comment, really appreciate your views on this.

  • @iryusufhashim1 Many people will get exactly the same experience out of the D90 as they would the D300s. Overall handling and response, including autofocus, is faster with the D300s and D300s is more durable. For anything except sports, the D90 will give you virtually the same experience. Either the D90 or D300s are a great step up from the D80 (which I also use).

  • @TheSnapChick thanks for the views, i really like your videos. they are informative all the way. sigh, have been longing for d300s yet to save couples of hndreds of dollars more =)

  • @iryusufhashim1 Thanks! Let me know which camera you select :)

  • @TheSnapChick D300s most probably, as i am more into it. hehe

well the other day, I could have buy it from a gentleman, whom had just used it for shutter count less than 2k, (well I just trying to get a used one), but end up changing mind. it is really tempting though, imagine they sell it around $1250 for body here in Malaysia. For new set, $1406, so i am still thinking to choose between the two.

  • Stupidass

  • Stupid ass video

  • Wow, your really beautiful!! Thanks for the informative video, I just ordered my eneloops yesterday!

  • @unrealism2k Thanks! I just ordered 12 more eneloops yesterday!

  • @TheSnapChick: I am still waiting on TigerDirect to send mine. I am excited, I go through batteries like crazy with my SB-900. =/

  • @unrealism2k How do you like the SB-900? I haven't purchased one yet, but I'm definitely curious.

  • @TheSnapChick: I like it better then the SB-800 I had, but I will say the only thing I hate that everyone complains about is that stupid thermal cutoff. I was shooting one night and it kicked in... I had to wait for it to cool and the models weren't happy to wait. =/ oops!... one reason I am trying out these eneloops! I heard they work better and help with the thermal issue.

  • @unrealism2k Thanks for the input! :)

  • @TheSnapChick my pleasure! =)

  • The only thing I have noticed with dx and fx is sharpness and using higher iso with low noise, I used to shoot d300 (which I still have) but noticed the noise/grain at higher iso unlike my D3 and shooting the 14-24 f2.8 is unreal, which you don't get as wide with a dx as you would an fx. To each their own, I was just curious. Thanks for the reply.

  • @WeHaveGoneGlobal And thanks for your insight! Leigh :)

  • The on

  • The on

  • Why no FX cameras?

  • @WeHaveGoneGlobal Great question. Can't figure out what I'm missing. Shot 35mm for years, so I know the size very well. I can't point to any photos I have that would have been different or better with FX. That being said, I'd have a field day with anything in the D3 series :)

  • Eneloop FTW!

  • @AdurianJ Yesterday, I threw out about 30 regular rechargeables because the Eneloops are king! Leigh

  • I hope you get more viewers. The quality of the movies is good and not recorded with a webcam or something.

  • @verheul32 Me too!

  • Thanks in advance Leigh, it's just there's no good reviews for a nikon 17-55mm, only for canon 17-55mm

  • @NikonNewb Stay tuned in the next 24 hours.

  • Do you have an online gallery to show some images from the 35mm 1.8? Great video.

  • @Alaskamassey Yes! Send me an email to the "Secrets" email address I mention in my videos and I will send you the link. Also, if you want my weekly "Secrets" updates, let me know, too. Thanks!

  • nice video Leigh. can u please make a nice review of your nikon 17-55mm f2.8, i have been searching for a great review of this lens thank you =)

  • @NikonNewb That's a darn good idea to review it, because the 17-55 is my "bread and butter" lens for a lot of my work. It's probably "#6 in my top 5" because I don't really recommend it to folks unless they're doing pro work because it is expensive and heavy. The 18-200 more fun for most people. I will review it in one of my next three videos.

  • Hey Leigh, Great video as usual! I have a D300s and the 35mm lens u mentioned and Love both of them. I have a few other more expensive lenses and still love the 35mm for it's sharpness and aperture.

What do you think about the noise you get over or even at 800 ISO, that's the only problem I have with D300s?

btw, in case you ever upgraded to SB-900 and wanted to sell your 800s let me know :)

  • @pooyag I have not had a problem with noise at or over ISO 800. It's very crisp compared to my former main camera, the D2x. If I did have to clean up a very high ISO shot, I use Noise Ninja. Also, many of my brides enjoy black and white images, which, to me, look better with some grain / noise. You'll be the first to know if I decide to sell one or more of my SB-800's!

  • nice! btw what charger do you use for your Eneloop Batteries?

  • @Kuyamoko I use an old Power2000 charger that charges slow. Apparently, quick-chargers, which are very popular, are not good for these batteries. Sanyo markets a charger that is appropriate for the Eneloop batteries.

  • Cool :)

  • @EddieDerbyshire Thanks!
