BRILLANT! Enjoying the tunes, thanks for sharing. A few questions, first, what kind of fiddle are you playing? Where are you playing now (country, region of influence). How long have you played? I've been playing 6 years and am having trouble getting reels up to speed, practice suggestions for increasing speed? Finnally, jigs are 6/8 time, isn't this tune in 4/4 which is a reel, not that it matters, just curious? Sorry so many questions, love your videos.
@1916dnicolas Thanks for the kind words! My fiddle is a german factory violin from the turn of the 20th century, which was sold in the Wurlitzer catalog. I live in the USA and I play tunes from all ireland & old-time appalachian music. I've played for 24 years. METRONOME is the best practice tool, start slow, stay consistent, gradually increase speed. This is indeed a jig (listen for the subdivisions between the beats - the beats in a jig are divided into triplets, like "one and a two and a".)
Bobby Casey played a lovely version of this on his Taking Flight album. I play it to get into the groove.
A request? Your attack and bounce are perfect for sessions. Do one that would be purely for listening. A little slower, and with some freedom in the tempo. Perhaps you do this in your own practice. You have such a lovely deep tone you could get away with some liberties in the time and tone.
@jkbonfante Haha, I'm happy someone else noticed. It happened last week. Someone, somewhere, really didn't like any of my videos and gave them all a thumbs down in one swoop. Can't please everyone, I guess. :)
I love your playing, this is such an inspiring set of videos. Thanks, may your chimney always smoke.
