  • great

  • I can't give enough "thumbs up's" to this song. Love it.

  • Is this from "Shivaree" or "Shindig?" And if neither, which show is it from? Nice clip.

  • @sabinoson I think it's Shivaree. You can tell by the go-go dancers.

  • I'm so sad to discover that the newer version of this song from one of the 'oldies' shows has been taken down from YouTube. Hell, I think it was even better than this wonderful clip.

  • Hi Ray, well those were the good old days, Call me Francis

  • like dat Joe Pesci haircut.

    skinny ties!

I was 12 when this on radio....WABC WMCA

    Garfield NJ

  • Thanks for great upload..Sweet memory of a 1st lov:)

  • I'm 60 years young. Heard this playing at the market the other day and smiled as I remembered how I used to dance to it. It still makes me bounce. Those were the days.

  • First heard this song going 80 miles an hour in a guys 1957 Pylmouth converable with a friend it was his and his girls favorite song. It was the middle of winter top down and we were riding around pottstown Pa back and forth from the tropical treat drive in to Gino's loved this song all my life!

  • Infectious or what. Blue eyed Detroit soul combo deserving of a Motown contract.

  • With all the talk about the "White Temptations". it should be noted that the musicians on this recording were Motown's Funk Brothers. No wonder the comparision!

  • Sounds like a Freddie Gorman record to me.

  • tony was a great singer then and he still is and ive seen him many times in the detroit area. by the way guys had better hair back then and looked better too.

  • "Just wait till I get myself str8" ... well, I'm still NOT ;-).... but oh well!! ... what a fab song from a wonderful time! Riding the chartered bus to Chicago for the 9th grade Honor Society trip Spring, 1964 with this playing on someone's AM radio!

  • Is'nt this the show Shinding..Oh what memories -

  • there is a romeo and juliet. there is a roman and julie. :) uh huh see? we are just different we are unique. always were always will be. heh. love you.

  • Hey Sanback07...thanks for the note. No, I haven't got one toe...got all of them. It's only that they don't move as fast as they use to. Hang in there.

  • Is that John Kerry on the far left?

  • @QuikShotJigen No, but sure as hell looks him lol.

  • @QuikShotJigen holy crap its him

  • @QuikShotJigen

    Fuck an A!

The "French looking" John Kerry. The John Kerry that; "served in Viet Nam." That John Kerry.

  • @QuikShotJigen No. Close. It's the young Edmund Muskie.

  • @newaccountdebzbd thats funny!!! and i thought John kerry was the dude haha

  • Yea, I like this one...has a "catchy" beat to tap my toe to...

  • @olemanjohn68 you have just one toe?? LoL, unless you really only have one toe, then I would feel like a jerk...

  • like so many others, the reflections got marooned at a dinky label which offered them horrible musical direction and little production value. this is a complex piece. THERE IS A LOT going on here, and yet, these guys blow through it like its childs play. this piece went to the top of the black AND white charts because of that lead vocal. fascinating study.

  • this is easily one of the best vocal performances of the era. world class. in honest and due respect to franki valli, mr micale has more stage presence more feel more cool and way more swagger than franki ever had. the only reason tony micale didnt end up as recognized as franki valli is just plain luck. valli had a world class composer (songwriters hall of fame) who crafted songs specifically to his voice. if tony micale had BOB GAUDIO.......HE would have OWNED the charts. just LISTEN to THAT

  • "The White Temptations"...Hmmm, I find that an interesting comparison. I'm a black male, and when I first heard them back in '64, I thought they were black. HOWEVER, they are from Detroit also!!

  • Great Song! It's been about 5 years since I've heard this song or so. They got rid of the oldies station they had here, and I really miss it. They never played this song enough, and the only reason why I thought about this song is because a friend has a dog name Julie, and it made me think of Romeo and Juliet! "Who Who Whooooooooooooooooooooo, just like Romeo and Juliet"! Thanks for posting this classic song!

  • i could sing this in the 60s cruising in my mom's smoke filled car, singing full on like in a concert. i was good man, you shoulda heard me. (o: or maybe not. but i love these guys, they were hot and this song too. great post

  • Btw, I also enjoy watching the girl dancers. One can only imagine where those four sweeties are today. You can almost see the hope on their faces...that these few minutes on national TV would be their big break.

And it all being much to racey for the parents of the kids watching this show live...short dresses, bob haircuts and lots of "unlady-like" moves. What a slice out of time.

  • This song is just so upbeat and catchy. I can't possibly listen to it just once in a sitting. And, man, if this is not proof of how far Berry Gordy's reach was, then what on Earth is? Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for the upload!

  • Great crusin song, put the top down, and blasting.Check out hair styles.

  • That blond girl dancing could be your mother. But then again I guess even back then the girls were hottt but in a different more innocent way or so we think. Your mom might have been slicker than you without the benefit of a cell phone!!!!

  • They had moves and rythmn just like the Temps.

  • @ruffyy123

They're not bad but their moves are nowhere near what the Tempts would have done with this song.

  • The White Temptations!!! A good thing!!!

  • @ruffyy123 ''The White Temptations''....I like that!!

  • @ruffyy123 White Temptations? Yes, a good enough analogy. I'd've also thought of The Miracles. Great stuff, though.

  • What is the lead singers name?

  • @apsscinc Tony Micale.

  • @valkoth

He was there when they merged with the Laredos.

  • @apsscinc Chad Allen

  • love the falsetto at the end!!

  • THEY NEVER DO "LIKE COLUMBUS DID" LIVE

  • Just like being there.

  • @studiodudeio I love it. This was way before I was born. Such a treat to be able to see. :)

  • A great Northern Soul favourite x

  • a fantastic song1...and for some reason, the blonde dancer at 0:30 is so sexy!!!!

  • i would like to go back in time, just so i could bang that blonde girl dancing.

  • A wonderful find.

  • When music was happy..love this and the pied pipe

  • soooooooooo cute <3

    Love it :)

  • if you have 1 really big song you can turn a carrer-sorry thats not right is it-out of it

  • Just love it!!!!

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Tony at a friend's memorial. He is a great guy and still performing today.

  • i though they were black

  • I remember sometime around 1965 somebody played this song over my High School's intercom system. I will always associate this song with that memory. Rock 'n' Roll music was in a transition stage. By the late '60s rock music wasn't anything like the early '60s.

  • Those 4 people must be tone death.

  • fantastic track overlooked in gb...other than the lambretta boys

  • @ 33rcast,

    I was born in '81, & while I loved the 80's & early 90's I can agree. I've always loved the music of the 50's & 60's!

At times I feel like I was born at the wrong time. I used to love watching my dad play with his band as a child. They always played great music from this era with the including some great 70's & 80's hits.

I miss those days so much, today's music is such a disappointment!

  • A Golden World (Detroit) recording, released in the UK on Stateside, this was a big record on the old "Rhythm & Soul" scene, the precursur to the Northern Soul scene. As such it's regarded as a classic tune here in the UK.

  • Great song and the blonde dancer at 0:30 is so sexy!!!!

  • i was born in 1982. wish i was born in the 50s or 60s. this is great music!!!! i love it!!!!

  • Back when creativity and class went hand in hand.

  • Tony Micale is such a good singer...

  • no actually it's john connelly a good friend of mine... may you rip john i love you!

  • no actually it's john connelly

  • Anyone know who produced this great song?Ive always thought the track sounded very MOTOWN-ISH.....especially the sax....LOVE,LOVE,LOVE THE 60s!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! That was Boss. Uptight and out of sight.

  • Awww I LOVE THIS SONG...And im a 35 year old man...LOL...Todays music is CRAP...SORRY KIDS

  • I love this song! I heard it in a store today and brought back great memories. If you haven't watched the oldies show clip (by pi4dom), do so - they've still got it.

  • I had heard them when I was very young.

Never saw a picture or album cover of them.

Heard them again on an Oldies Collection.

I thought they were some groovin Black Band

imagine my surprise when I saw them on this Youtube video

from a dance show in the sixties.

Wish I had the Brylcream monopoly back then.

Fine song and fine, fine performance

  • The hair is just TOO MUCH Daddy-O!! Hey..I would just LOVE to see somebody walk down the street with a classic "Pompapour" hair style like deeze guys are sportin'. That would just be bitchin'!

  • Amazing footage, thanks so much for posting it!

  • Amazing footage, thanks for much for posting it!

  • It's all about the hair. :)

  • wow didn't listen to this in months

  • I'm a 60's gyrl !!!!!! LOVE the music from this era....the Caucasian persuasion can blow =D There will never be great music like this again-thank God we can still listen to it. You tube...UR the $%#@ google and check them out !

  • Was one of my ma's favorite groups. And hitting up car shows and concerts in and around Detroit area I've seen these guys in many venues and under different names. Lerados etc...

  • Love the hair dos .....huj

  • What ever happened to all those classy GoGo dancers? You just don't see them like that anymore. Heck, I knew guys who watched the shows just to see the GoGo dancers!

  • Love this tune...ah so good..yeah about 5 or 6 when it was out. The dude can sing. My first job in the music biz was working for K-tel Records. I would put together records of all these oldies. They hired me because I could tell you everything about the records. And loved it..still do..ha ha.. thx 4 posting.

  • Hmm... I've heard this song many many times, but this group is wearing almost the same attire the Newbeats wore, though I think Tony's hair might be bigger than Larry's. :-)

  • One of my favorite one-hit wonders of the 60's. And, although I was just a child at the time, I miss all those great music programs that were on then, (Hullabaloo, Shindig, American Bandstand, Hollywood a Go-Go, etc.).

  • Just like Shaka Zulu & Kunta Kentay raping all those white women!

  • @SuperSFio WHAAAATTTT???????????????????

  • @SuperSFio "One can't rape the willing"

  • one of the best northern soul songs ever

  • Mmm I can hear that ol' baritone sax down there

  • Such a great song from that era!

  • What can you say....now this is music!!! I maybe in my 50's ooops....but that's OK...Have great memories, even if I was a kid... I search for every oldie for my Ipod!!!!!! Keep up the good work!

  • This song is in my top five all time. What a voice the lead has. Thank you Valkoth for posting it. I love the moves of the blonde dancer nearest the lead singer! The blonde with the short hair. Not sure if her name is Sharon, Cheryl, Jeanie or Anita, but whover she is props go out to her for her dancing.. Have mercy, what a fine looking woman!

  • Like it that after he sings the first verse he glances up at the GoGo dancer and smiles, as he thinks ... 'ya I am going to be knee deep in that in about one hour'.

  • always wondered what they looked like

  • Italian power

  • The stage must have been wild with all those people so close . An incredible find. Thanks for posting this treasure.

  • @edmonton67 i agree too much

  • @edmonton67 i agree too much

  • Early doo wop/ rock poetry? Thanks for posting this great vid.

  • The woman was so female and he music was danceable. Today its whinny chick music and it sucks.

  • Dig that hair! Pompadours! These guys are hipsters all the way. Button-down cool! I'll bet the guy on the far left drives a '58 Impala with a tuck and roll interior and twice pipes!

  • very good. we need more

  • they were bigger then beatles in those day

  • Can not say enough about all the different things I love about this video. Then just like anything else in the 60's, if you want to make it even better toss in a few Go Go dancers.

  • love the vocals..these guy's didnt have enough hit's.they were underated .

  • @daraandfrank TOTALLY!

  • @ElegantDisciplesMC ARE YOU SERIOUS?????

  • As good as Franki Valli??

  • Imagine being Romeo, and your Juliet lives in a Far Off Land.....

  • Thank you so much for this great video. I always did love this song.

I was just little when this song came out but my older sister listened to this music. So i grew up with it and to this day love it. The trash they sing today is awful. This is MUSIC

  • These young singers did gigs in every town that their managers could send them to....and every place that a bus could take them...and yet the majority of them basically the only real big thing that they got was a few dollars and the chance be on the Lloyd Thaxton show...which isn't bad when you consider that the rest of us were on the sidelines watching...lol

  • A nice song, with a beat so different other song.

    Tnanks for posting!

  • can miss the funk bros. on this one!

  • foot tapping excellence...MOTOWN MAGIC

  • What an awesome video. I wish I had this in my private collection. Thanks for posting it.

  • Remember it well. High School favorite with a touch of history in the lyrics that was given an upbeat rhythm.

  • More Detroit Gold! Must have been something in the water ya think? LOL!!!

  • Shivareeee!

    whooooaaaaaahhhh!

Love how the kids can stand around and be close to the performers and go-go girls!

  • This is one of my favorites - thanks for posting. Just wondering why there are only 4 guys here, but other YT videos show 5?

  • This was one of the main inspriations that made me want to sing Motown music! I still miss talking to Mr. Windgate about the Reflections and the Golden World Label.

  • a classic song a brill ringtone for my phone love it

  • a great song but wow that dancer!

  • Love it. Those Go-Go dancers earned their pay...

  • What a great song! The pounding rhythm and plaintive melody. And those lyrics! You just don't hear lines anymore like "I'm gonna buy her pretty presents just likes the ones in the catalogue." It is so evocative of an era when Vinny would take Gina to Coney Island on a Friday night and they would talk about their true love. Truly one of my top 20 songs of all time.

  • This is wonderful. I love the combination of innocence and fun--such a nice change from music today. This is a fabulous pop song--it cheers me up.

I really enjoy the part about 27 seconds in. The singer looks over at the woman dancing on the platform, doing her odd routine, and he smiles as if to say, "Man, this is fun!" It's a nice moment. To the person who posted this--Thank you! You really cheered me up!

  • I used to ask for this record every Friday and Saturday at the royal well club in Cheltenham circa 1976 anyone out there ever go to this club it was really popular back then??

  • Love it . I wasnt around when all this great music hit , i wasnt born until 1980 , but i still crank these songs when im out in the garage workin on my 55 chevy.

  • Yeah, me too. This kind of music is very appropriate when working on old cars and when driving them.

  • @macfrederick

I love it too and I was listening to this song in real time in my 55 Chevy Belair. I was born in 1946 and I love these old tunes but they sound better coming from a classic car.

  • ahhh, classic. The skinny ties and dark suits, pampadour haircuts, go-go girls and all the gang clapping along to a great tune on Shindig. I wish I was around back then.

  • Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!! Thank you !!!!

  • One of my favorite recordings. . .

. . .thank you so much for posting this!

  • To sarcasticsoulcowboy - You are totally incorrect..."Just Like Romeo & Juliet' was NOT written by Richard Popcorn Wylie.- It was actually written by Bob Hamilton & Freddie Gorman... The label on the original 45 states this, as does Reflections lead singer Tony Micale, whom I've been good friends with for almost 35 years.

  • To Newcolonyfreak1 - I hope that this now satisfies your correctness. Sorry, but my faux pas didnt detract from the original intention of enlightening the public to the lesser known " Like adam and eve" Still a Nice one. PS please give my regards to MR Micale, who was always highly regarded by Ed Wingate. Regards ....Sarcasticsoulcowboy

  • I feel that in order to satisfy correctness, The lead singer on Like Adam And Eve was Frank Amodeo(aka Darin D'anna) who died October last ( still a wonderful vocal ) ........... Sarcasticsoulcowboy....... England.

  • To sarcasticsoulcowboy...You are correct.- Tony Micale left The Reflections when the group left the Golden World label. However, Tony did record one solo 45 for Golden World as Tony Michaels.

The rest of the original Reflections members continued on with Darin as lead vocalist, and recorded for the ABC Paramount label. They recorded 45's such as, "Adam & Eve", The Long Cigarette", and a song titled, "Escape From Cuba" under the name, The High & Mighty. - I have ALL of these 45's.

  • "Yeah- it's got a good beat- you can dance to it..." :-)

  • This is just a corny little song, but I love it- I had the single and played it over & over when I was a kid. I downloaded the one from iTunes, and it doesn't sound like the single:-( But it's still good.

  • one of the best northern to dance to ,all northern brilliant.

  • The guys STILL sound just like this!! Check out the video with them being older in the blue jackets and the white slacks. Awesome!

  • I wanna be a GO-GO dancer ...no talent required...wish the camera would stay on the guys ...they're in THE ZONE ....

  • menudo bailecito, buena época aun no vivida

  • correction >>> Romeo's fame

  • 6905632418....i cant stop playing this either...rite smack dab outta date!! haha..just like romeo and juliet...

  • "Just Like Romeo and Juliet"

    here they are-

    ....'talk about Love and Romance

just wait 'til I get myself straight

    I'm gonna put Romeos' fame

right smack dab out of date...

  • @6905632418

Thanks for the lyrics! I've been wondering (all these years) what he saying on this verse. Wonderful song! 10+ stars!

  • Please help, I can't stop playing this tune ....magic ...

  • aww thankx mannn ....just like ...fab*

  • beautiful!!! great song

  • Great Video! BTW, is that a young Joe Pesci singing lead?

  • Nope, Its actually Tony Micale.

  • @valkoth i was going to say the same thing. he looks like pesci

  • @valkoth i love this song! thanks for sharing!

  • @BigBird1017 do I amuse you? you think I'm funny???

  • @roselandalvin Great line from a great movie! But the lead singer really DOES look like Joe Pesci!!

  • @BigBird1017 no actually its john

  • I googled it and agree with Leonard its: I'm gonna put Romeo's FATE right smack dabe on a DATE

  • Big and I mean really BIG northern soul sound!! Kept the floor turning -

  • Where's the 'Mental as Anything' version gone?

    Great song

  • Hi Leonard

I went to the Reflections website home page by googling "the reflections website". I clicked on the "history" button located on the upper right part of that home page. On the bottom of the history page, the Reflections addressed the "tricky lyrics" in this song. It uses the word "fame". Also, several other lyric websites I visited use the word "fame" as well. I think it is a safe bet to say the word is fame.....

    Cheers - Mark

  • This is one of my favorite songs from my teen years. Thanks so much for posting the word's.I never could understand the word's of Romeo's fate.

  • It's:

    I'm gonna put Romeo's fate

    Right smack-dab on a date

  • To Leonard:

my source for the lyrics is ...lyricsmode (dot) com

I googled "lyrics to reflections song just like romeo and juliet" to find it

Man.... I'm listening to it now and it sounds like they are saying "face" - not "fate or fame" - I wonder if they interchanged that word from show to show :-)

  • My experience is that some lyric sources are wrong at times...

Fate fits into the story line and it's a rhyme with date.

  • What are the lyrics at the end of the bridge: "I'm gonna put Romeo''s ????? Right, smack dab on ???????

    Any help?

Great old pop song! Always loved the whole "vibe."

    Thanks for posting it here!

  • Right smack-dab on a date

  • I'm gonna put Romeo's fame

    Right smack-dab on a date

  • To Pyannaguy: Talk about love and romance Just wait 'til I get myself straight I'm gonna put Romeo's fame Right smack-dab on a date Ah, all right, now, I'm speculatin' Wonder what tomorrow's gonna really bring If I don't (if I don't) find work tomorrow It's gonna be (gonna be) heartaches 'n' sorrow Our love's gonna be destroyed like a tragedy Just like Romeo and Juliet
