  • Fantastic.

  • so nostalgic, fabulous air of 80s optimism about it, and gorgeous trumpet (piccolo I think!)

  • the big bang theory is the new tomorrow's world wel it's the same sort of thing anyway.

  • I much preferred the massive Taiko drum theme of 1993, but I have still yet to find a copy or anything about it.

  • @tryptychUK I'm sure I've still got the one with all the drums on it on a cassette somewhere - if I find it, I'll post it up.

  • @Scruttock5 That would be fantastic if you can find it!!

  • Amazing theme...just like so many other decent programmes of the day like Horizon. It's to BBC's shame that we only have Horizon & Sky at Night left! There ARE some intelligent people left in the UK you know who appreciate science & technology current affairs and concepts!

  • Yep Judith (heart disease) Hann used to make me switch off

  • I loved Tomorrows World but hated the last few series...gone was the proper science, engineering and technology reports to be replaced by human interest stories about some new medical research! Flippin awful! By the end it was basically a show about medical science...in other words totally boring!

  • Hard to believe that the BBC pulled shows like this to replace it with 'Bargain Hunt' and 'Shit in your attic'...

  • @togalogs Haha 'Shit In Your Attic' in which daytime harridan Lorne 'bankrupt no nothing' Spicer defacates in your attic amidst photo albums and xmas decorations

  • This theme was composed and played by Paul Hart, although not credited on the BBC CD that was issued at the time. Paul Hart also played the brilliant theme for the 1986 season of programmes for the arrival and departure of Halley's Comet. If anybody has that track, please post it on YT. I have the original 7" single, but unfortunately I don't have the technology or know-how to post it myself!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • Have such ironic nostalgia for this show - one of the best shows on 80s TV. Nice allusions to Purcell and curiously John Williams' Superman. Also sounds like a contender for a 'Good Morning America' news show :-)

  • Tomorrows world was quality prgramming. Please bring it back.

  • Great theme used between 1986-91 (sorry to correct you). Composed by Paul Hart of then Joe and Co music. Marvellous timeless piece....

  • Funny how many things featured on Tomorrow's World, especially technology, did not become actual reality. Look Around You.lol

  • DUBSTEP REMIX PLEASE

  • @djpheeze seems like it's half way there already; just add wobble :-)

  • Yeah funny how in an era of new tech arriving almost every day, the show that featured in ahead of time is no longer on. Fantastic theme tune.

  • I loathed it after the groovy Denton/Cook forerunner, but quite like it now..

I got the Tomorrow's World Laserdisc boxset, bugger.

  • To paraphrase Humph, Tomorrow's World; the programme that specialised in predicting future developments, apart from the programme itself being binned.

  • Forgot how good this was. Proper science program with solid theme tune.

  • John, Thanks for posting this, my father is playing the trumpet on this and really good to hear it thanks again

  • This was my favourite of the TW themes. Gets the hairs on the back of my neck!

  • This theme is epic!!

  • Wonderful. Very 80s/early 90s. 1:11 to 1:20 has a beautiful resolution of the main theme.

  • A great theme written by Paul Hart. !

  • whats the best show

gadget show on five or this?

  • @MYBIGKINDHEART the BBC show 'click' is quite good if u like this kind of thing :)

  • i used to dance when this camo on. i know i was only 6

  • Listening to this theme makes we want to buy a leather cover for my Radio Times.

  • This makes me thing of the Back to the Future theme.

  • I fucking hated thsi one

  • @giantbluemarlin

save your politcial bleatings for the Mail crowd.

  • This brings back memories :), Who did the theme?

  • Comment removed

  • Tomorrow's World was supreme - one of my favourite programmes growing up as a kid. Heck, they even had a fantastic theme tune to boot!

  • this is why Tomorrow world was stopped . because it had a crap theme tune . Compared to the Johnny Dankworth, theme of the 1970s

  • They once demonstrated a microwave which blasts food with some sort of blue coloured laser and it roasted a HUGE chicken from frozen in about 7 seconds!!

There were a couple of teething problems preventing it hitting the shops... firstly, it didn't brown the chicken at all, making it look unappetizing. And secondly, they couldn't let anyone eat it because it might have been dangerously radioactive.

  • The original theme tune was far better. This tune is too rigid and sounds a bit pompous.

  • "Tomorrows World never even saw the mobile phone coming, yet Rover did..."

  • One of my favourite themes.

  • I remember looking TW back in the eighties, and having seen a cube with crystals inside, and position of these crystals with a laser shot through, made it hold 4,000 hours of music (Philips didn't 'invent for you' they just didn't want their cd to be endangered by it)

  • Bring back Tomorrow's World! Please bring back intellectual programmes like this, not low brow version for plebs presented by idiots either! Have it presented by Carol Vorderman or proper scientists. It has to be presented by people that are actually excited by science/technology.

  • in short an older version of the gadget show.

  • It's like the Antiques Roadshow theme! The previous TW theme was far better, it invited you to watch an exciting glimpse into the future, this one seems pompous and self congratulatory.

  • Very well said, downformaintenance.

  • For hours of TW memories, go to the original makers - you know, the "broken biscuit company" (usual dot such and such) slash archive slash tomorrowsworld. Covers every era, plent y to enjoy. Only works from UK.

  • Makes me still feel that the future is a bright place to be.

  • reminds me of dynasty

  • Actually, this theme was used from 1986 onwards, NOT 1987. Sorry to be pedantic, but I was a 19 year old student in Peterborough at the time and I remember TW having this music in '86. I much prefer the early '80s synth version. This sounds much too Thatcherite.

  • oh please

  • I love this version of the theme but it wasn't as good as the 80's synth version and even that can't top the late 70's version.

  • @UKSazzy67 Have to agree - though, for me, the Johnny Dankworth theme is the best one.

Also, this theme was taken out of use before 1993 - its drummy, Time Team-like successor features on a Doctor Who-related clip from the end of a 1992 episode.

  • Reminds me of just finishing my tea and sitting down in front of the TV as a kid

  • I loved this show. Imagine stepping back in time and being a guest on the show - with a [top spec'] 24" iMac.

  • @bvseediermedia

Or an iPod. Most iPods today are far more powerful than 'computers' back then.

  • Bring back Tomorrow's World! With technology moving forward at such a rapid face it would be great to see mind blowing inventions on the box.

  • Too much technology, moving too fast.

I doubt even Tomorrows World" could keep up today.

  • @Markjuk

Totally agree, get rid of that 'Bang goes the Theory' rubbish.

  • @Markjuk Never going to happen, suppression is the key, look at all the proven things that never came out, the injection to injuries that left no scare and healed perfectly without any side effect, where did that go? Stanley Myers water fuel cell? Stanley is dead. The gadget show! crap gadgets that no 1 needs, they're not going to show the useless eater anything, look for them yourself look at the suppression of the water cells all over the planet, the deaths the prison time, see "joe cell"

  • Comment removed

  • @Markjuk

    Brian Cox to present.

  • @Markjuk I have a rapid face

  • @Markjuk yeah, and to think all the BBC has on that theme now is "Click" on the News Channel, it's a dire shame!

  • @Markjuk Yeah but we all know Tomorrow's World offer news of promised technology which we rarely or fail to deliver even after decades. Better off watching the Channel 5 The Gadget Show at least they show technology that can buy.

  • I have got this theme on my tape. And I like this music.

  • Ah, my favourite TW theme by miles. Spent days recreating it on OctaMED on my Amiga at one point :)

  • AHH. When BBC was great. Please go back to your roots BBC. Bring back the rotating globe logo, and your unbiast news reports. Stop trying to be Sky mark 2!!!

  • @cloverfield911

The beeb aren't that bad... they just have shite programming compared to ten years ago.

  • The BBC is the best broadcaster in the world, (from a non BBC employee), if the BBC leaves the UK then heaven defend us from Sky and ITV, Long live the BBC!

  • It's ok but no where near as good as the former 1980s version with the Dr Who like tunnel video - that's a great theme song!!

  • My relative Sir John Dankworth Composed this theme. I'm prooud to be related to him :)

  • Johnny Dankworth composed the earlier theme, used i from 1965 until 1979, but not this version.

  • wonderful stuff .

  • Triumphant. Love it.

  • Epic intro. BBC at their best!

  • at last i found it.most download

  • Brilliant.

  • Hiya, does anyone have the actual intro video? And maybe also the later, rythmic theme?

  • Found a couple different versions of this intro on Youtube...

    "BBC1 Continuity 1986" at 1:19 and

"Nick Moore's Kaleidosphere BBC Tomorrow's World TV Show"

    Hope that helps...

  • THIS IS STUNNING

  • oh my god. what a blast from the past, superb theme music. the more recent themes were rubbish. shame we couldnt have visuals aswell

  • It's Tommorer's World

  • News is - Tomorrow's World is coming back... probably unlikely to be as we all remember it though!

  • If TW did come back it would probably have near zero production values and be a cheap BBC News Channel programme rather like 'Click'

  • Music for Super-science.

  • with all the tech around today tomorrows world should make a comeback but the Beeb are to stingy to pay out for the show instead they will show another cheap reality show.

  • There is Click at bbc co uk

  • it would be nice to the actual ident - moving images.

  • Quality bit of music...

  • Anyone know where I can download this version from? Preferably for free

  • try ringing the Sound Department, they're ususally really good with requests etc !

  • BADALASS - Answer to your question is Yes.

    I do

    You have a message :o)

  • sorry forgot to say the BBC's Sound Dept. Sorry !

  • This version of the TW theme was also released in a three-dimensional audio version after a programme feature on reproducing a 3D sound space through two-channel audio. They used the Roland Sound Space processor and I fell in love!

  • I remember that 3D cd and want it!

  • Kate Bellingham (TW presenter of the time) was also a trained sound engineer, and she was the one that did the piece for Tomorrow's World. The audio test was also simulcast live on BBC Radio 1. It worked very well.

  • Oh yes! I had forgotten it was Kate Bellingham and I didn't know she was also a sound engineer. That's great. The simulcast I do remember as I had everything set up in anticipation. Happy days. Thank you for the information.

  • 3D stereo. I bought the CD, now saved onto MP3.

  • Nicely. Does it affect the spatial rendering?

  • No it doesn't. I might upload this when I know how.
