Amazing theme...just like so many other decent programmes of the day like Horizon. It's to BBC's shame that we only have Horizon & Sky at Night left! There ARE some intelligent people left in the UK you know who appreciate science & technology current affairs and concepts!
I loved Tomorrows World but hated the last few series...gone was the proper science, engineering and technology reports to be replaced by human interest stories about some new medical research! Flippin awful! By the end it was basically a show about medical science...in other words totally boring!
@togalogs Haha 'Shit In Your Attic' in which daytime harridan Lorne 'bankrupt no nothing' Spicer defacates in your attic amidst photo albums and xmas decorations
This theme was composed and played by Paul Hart, although not credited on the BBC CD that was issued at the time. Paul Hart also played the brilliant theme for the 1986 season of programmes for the arrival and departure of Halley's Comet. If anybody has that track, please post it on YT. I have the original 7" single, but unfortunately I don't have the technology or know-how to post it myself!
Have such ironic nostalgia for this show - one of the best shows on 80s TV. Nice allusions to Purcell and curiously John Williams' Superman. Also sounds like a contender for a 'Good Morning America' news show :-)
To paraphrase Humph, Tomorrow's World; the programme that specialised in predicting future developments, apart from the programme itself being binned.

Are you guys nuts? TW was just Auntie doing propoganda for HMGov to make the idiot population think that things would improve vastly soon & so not to moan. And look at us now.
No robots to do anything. The Roomba is about it. Why can't we all have one equal robot proxy to do all the work whilst we relax.
The equality of the robots shouldn't matter - we are all apparently 'equal' anyway! LOL!
& when did you see YT on TW?
Oh, search "Tomorrow's World First Home Computer". There's YT being invented
They once demonstrated a microwave which blasts food with some sort of blue coloured laser and it roasted a HUGE chicken from frozen in about 7 seconds!!
There were a couple of teething problems preventing it hitting the shops... firstly, it didn't brown the chicken at all, making it look unappetizing. And secondly, they couldn't let anyone eat it because it might have been dangerously radioactive.
I remember looking TW back in the eighties, and having seen a cube with crystals inside, and position of these crystals with a laser shot through, made it hold 4,000 hours of music (Philips didn't 'invent for you' they just didn't want their cd to be endangered by it)
Bring back Tomorrow's World! Please bring back intellectual programmes like this, not low brow version for plebs presented by idiots either! Have it presented by Carol Vorderman or proper scientists. It has to be presented by people that are actually excited by science/technology.
It's like the Antiques Roadshow theme! The previous TW theme was far better, it invited you to watch an exciting glimpse into the future, this one seems pompous and self congratulatory.
For hours of TW memories, go to the original makers - you know, the "broken biscuit company" (usual dot such and such) slash archive slash tomorrowsworld. Covers every era, plent y to enjoy. Only works from UK.
Actually, this theme was used from 1986 onwards, NOT 1987. Sorry to be pedantic, but I was a 19 year old student in Peterborough at the time and I remember TW having this music in '86. I much prefer the early '80s synth version. This sounds much too Thatcherite.
@UKSazzy67 Have to agree - though, for me, the Johnny Dankworth theme is the best one.
Also, this theme was taken out of use before 1993 - its drummy, Time Team-like successor features on a Doctor Who-related clip from the end of a 1992 episode.
@Markjuk Never going to happen, suppression is the key, look at all the proven things that never came out, the injection to injuries that left no scare and healed perfectly without any side effect, where did that go? Stanley Myers water fuel cell? Stanley is dead. The gadget show! crap gadgets that no 1 needs, they're not going to show the useless eater anything, look for them yourself look at the suppression of the water cells all over the planet, the deaths the prison time, see "joe cell"
@Markjuk Yeah but we all know Tomorrow's World offer news of promised technology which we rarely or fail to deliver even after decades. Better off watching the Channel 5 The Gadget Show at least they show technology that can buy.
AHH. When BBC was great. Please go back to your roots BBC. Bring back the rotating globe logo, and your unbiast news reports. Stop trying to be Sky mark 2!!!

This version of the TW theme was also released in a three-dimensional audio version after a programme feature on reproducing a 3D sound space through two-channel audio. They used the Roland Sound Space processor and I fell in love!
Kate Bellingham (TW presenter of the time) was also a trained sound engineer, and she was the one that did the piece for Tomorrow's World. The audio test was also simulcast live on BBC Radio 1. It worked very well.
Oh yes! I had forgotten it was Kate Bellingham and I didn't know she was also a sound engineer. That's great. The simulcast I do remember as I had everything set up in anticipation. Happy days. Thank you for the information.
Fantastic.
