anyway we're talking music! and not politycs. so get over yourself and concentrate about the important thing (like radiohead). if you want I'm there's allot of places on the net that will love to hear and agree/argue about what you think.
Israel and Palestenians both have theyre bad sides, but i think Thom Yorke would pick the palestenians' side, just like me. The israeli's are just wrong there
One thing I never understood is how in the mid to late 90's, the British music press was having these huge debates about "who's the best english band? oasis? or blur? oasis? blur?"....and i remember thinking "uhh....are you guys fucking deaf? you have this transcendental band up the road in Oxford that you guys are totally ignoring"
I think in retrospect it's because Radiohead isn't out of a British tradition, nor an American one...they come from NO TRADITION...that's what makes them brilliant
Thom's a clever chap isn't he..... not saying the rest of the band aren't formidable, but for someone who really professes to know very little about what he does, and quote roughly: "I'm rubbish at finishing anything", happens to be able to hold and play a tambourine well enough to command timing attention from the greatest rock band alive! **cking genius in your face people!
I really dislike the album version, but when I hear this song live I just get blown away... Weird... Guess I'll just have to buy their live recordings :-)
I really love seeing how into the music thom gets. he just closes his eyes and seems to go somewhere where only the music matters. and I love that little vocal outburst at 2:54, so random but so fitting. when they play live it never seems contrived, forced or over rehearsed, it's like the music just flows out of all five of them naturally. incredible band. they really are one of a kind. a once in a life time band.

does anyone know what jonny is using to get that old school vibrato sound on the keyboard? like a warped track? they use it heaps, and i dont know if its the specific keyboard or its an effect or what!
AS.
RH, I feel ya buddy! It's like he's battling the noise, pleading for it to quite down and then he finally asks nicely and it "quiets down" fucking beautiful.
This song is just ethereal. The first time I heard "wont you quiet down" my jaw hit the fucking floor. There is something about that part that is unlike any other song in the world.
this song is my favourite radiohead track now....so jazzy, loose drumming, what a bassline....and the singing...so beautifully restrained. i agree that this is one of most underrated songs ever
what i find so amazing about radiohead is the amazing song construction. for instance, this song and i might be wrong have a constrained feeling to them. The listener feels as if the song will all of the sudden explode into an amazing climax... but it never happens. The song is constraint but in an almost beautiful way. There is amazing tension in the song as if the song is trying to escape and let loose and the music is holding it back. and in my opinion the song is better this way.
the thing i love about radiohead is that their sound is something that can't really be defined because each member consistently throws something new your way. also, each song is its on journey, and after about the 8th listen of each song, it suddenly dawns on the listeners: "wow. this song is amazing." there is not one radiohead song i didn't have this experience with.
There's no telling. His pedalboard is huge. But it sounds like something that's rolling off the entire bottom end and maybe with some additive synth stuff going on in there too.
People ask me why I think Phil Selway is an astounding gifted drummer...
...it's not because of the fucking orgasm of energy he injects into the music from 2:09 through 2:12...
...it's actually because he's so thoughtful and unconcerned about masturbating all over songs, that he RESTRAINS himself up until then to let the tension build high enough so when the wave finally breaks at 2:18 after his explosion, you're hypnotized.
i love Radiohead songs man, the music is amazing...the lyric makes me think and the entire song makes my brain tick. whenever i listen to them i feel like i got something back in return...it was worth every beat and vibration on my eardrums.
its pure art and music and it is something that most artist nowadays cant accomplish.
Music teachers should play this song to kids just starting to write songs who think it's all about how many chords you cram into a composition.
Here you have a single minor/major oscillation that forms the entire song's core, and yet with the right ornamentation, it's more devastating emotionally than Rush piling 438 chord changes into some prog rock disaster.
Art isn't about how many colors you use, it's about how tactfully you use the colors you've selected for the portrait.
If you've heard the song One by metallica it starts with this nice almost clasical guitar bit and then bam the fucking solo come in a ruins everything!
i probably wouldnt talk to my mom for atleast a year unless i needed something from her. She kept you from seeing god. In her defense though mothers dont want there kids smoking pot. when your 22 they dont care though.
dude fuck being 17, i had radiohead tickets in my fucking hand on the night that my bitch mother decides to ground me up the ass. Like non escapable grounding. Not only that but I later learn from my friends that they played this song(my favorite song of all time), which i was saying "shit I hope they play this song", and they play a badass paranoid android. FUCK IT!
ok let me put it this way haha, nonescapable grounding as in how much grounding a "reefer madness" mother gives to her kid when she finds out he's been smoking weed for the past year in her backyard almost everyday hahaha. Yah it sucked that it was A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE CONCERT. haha i didn't care about any of the crap she gave me, I JUST WANTED MY RADIOHEAD! I will be going to therapy for many years for the blow she has dealt me haha, jk jk. I just moved out of her house and that's whats up.
you didn't answer my question dude.. if i had that opportunity i wouldnt give 2 shits. There's nothing she could have done about it sides from ground you more. I saw them twice on this tour- in frisco and SB, and they were both incredible shows. Your loss for not wanting it enough.
no you don't understand... she took EVERYTHING in my room away from me, including my guitar case which i keep all my music stuff in, locked that is. She did this before I could even know that she did so. She took my guitar case which had my guitar and ticket in and she brought it to one her friends houses'. And I don't live with her anymore as i said. Dude, believe me man if I had any chance to steal that ticket back I would have wholeheartedly gone and risked whatever bullshit i got from her.
not wanting it enough? Dude, I was literally breaking down mentally when i found out that i didn't have the ticket anymore. That concert was my chance away from reality and to see these gods of music in person.
I saw them perform this live at the Hollywood Bowl this summer. It was insane and awesome!! But instead of dollars and cents, it sounds like he's saying "We're the daughters of sins" lol.
is it just me or does it sound like thom's singing something other than the album lyrics in the part where its just bass. sounds like hes singing "its all over the streets at night" or something.
yeah I get "it's all over the streets at night" too. I don't think there's any definite lyrics for this song. even when you look them up something always seems wrong. easily my favourite radiohead song. it's just so "out there".
Does anyone know how I can download the mp3's on the link in the description? When I click on a song, all it does it take me to some small player and play the song
As far as "Dollars & Cents" LIVE is concerned, Phil Selway seems to have a lot more fun playing the drums. All those fill- ins and off-kiltered rhythms...why the hell doesn't he put that much effort on the studio version of this song?

People ask me why I think Phil Selway is an astounding gifted drummer...
...it's not because of the fucking orgasm of energy he injects into the music from 2:09 through 2:12...
...it's actually because he's so thoughtful and unconcerned about masturbating all over songs, that he RESTRAINS himself up until then to let the tension build high enough so when the wave finally breaks at 2:18 after his explosion, you're hypnotized.
SUCH thoughtful planners, all 5 of these guys.

Yeah, I hear it as well, it starts at 3:01 for anyone who wants to check.
Well dollars and cents (cents at least) can be found laying around the streets at night..

yeah I get "it's all over the streets at night" too. I don't think there's any definite lyrics for this song. even when you look them up something always seems wrong. easily my favourite radiohead song. it's just so "out there".

Thom doesen't seem to hold notes for this nowadays as long as he does here. He's possessed.

As far as "Dollars & Cents" LIVE is concerned, Phil Selway seems to have a lot more fun playing the drums. All those fill- ins and off-kiltered rhythms...why the hell doesn't he put that much effort on the studio version of this song?
