The other reason it worked great was that movies only cost 15-20 dollars, while VHS films cost 40+. That's 80s bux too. Multiply by 2.5 for today's dollars.
@databits It won't play on a regular CED player- I tried right when I got it. There was a prototype player on Ebay a couple years ago, but someone outbid me.
I have had every player ever made. It was truly an amazing product. Suburb video and sound quality to VHS at the time, and just a small par lower than Laser Disc.
My family had one of these in the early-80s when I was a kid, and it was easily the coolest piece of technology for a five-year-old like me. I literally wore out "Star Wars" to the point where it would repeatedly skip around randomly and lock up during playback. Haha!!
it's basically a capacitor that has changing capacitence...
So basically it's a flux capacitor
