  • Nadar is a dork... the Corvair was no more unsafe then the praised VW Bug... the only difference was he couldn't attack the Bug...

also it's a bit shameful that this thing is more capable offroad then modurn CUVs and some SUVs :|

  • it was a scapegoat for Nader's cause to increase safety in the auto industry. Corvair wasnt the only car that was scrutinized but it did take the limelight unfortunately and even though the design & handling were ultimately vindicated sales never recovered. too bad too, nice design, I like the 2nd Gen. 500 & Monza coupes myself !

  • I dunno what people are talkin' about sayin' it's a bad car, That thing is built like a brick shithouse. i want one.

  • chuck norris drives a corvair

  • My friend had a corvair & it ran like a piece of shit. Nader was right ! Like it or not.

  • Wow! who needs a 4wd when you have the Corvair!

  • Its doin sky hill lol.

  • The Corvair was a good car and still probably would be.

  • Nader was right about seatbelts, but he was wrong about the Corvair. Has he ever apologized for lying about this car?

  • You can forget Land Rover. I'm all set.

  • special crash tests (cut) at 4 mph

  • I've never been a big fan of Ralph Nader. I didn't vote for him when he first ran for president and I sure as hell refuse to vote for him next time he runs (if he runs) for office.

  • Great, fun video...looks like a great, fun car....especially if you want to drive down river or through corn fields!!

  • ....ecco perchè la Fiat 1500 era così bella.... ;-)

  • This is the car Ralph Nader used as his scapegoat in "Unsafe at Any Speed" to make a name for himself....His allegations against this car were proven to be FALSE !...GM (despite less than stellar sales) continued to build the Corvair until 1969 as an "In Your Face" to that asshole Nader...The Corvair was a very popular car in SCCA racing.

  • god its not a car its an all terrain vehical!

  • While Nader has some good points regarding automotive safety, we're so often quick to blame the car for the accidents, when we're as much to blame for accidents.

  • Boy they put metal back in those cars back then.

  • I Love my Corvair.

  • B-H

The original Corvair was Ed Cole's design and was full of good ideas and innovations, but atrociously executed.

By 1965 virtually all the bugs were worked out making the Corvair the best handling car available in the US at that time. It had superior brakes and became the safest car on the road back then.

It is easy today to bash the old iron, but the Corvair was superior in almost every area in its day.

  • You may be right. The CEOs of American auto industry did this to the auto industry, apparently by not caring how cars are built. Thus from the 1970s to this day, American cars have deteriorated from good cars that we used to be so proud to own, to being pieces of shit that we'd rather pass up than buy.

  • I love these beautiful old cars.

  • better than toyota...

  • No wonder the American car industry is on the decline. It's people like Ralph Nader who tries to reduced the car industry from one of the kings of the hill to being at the bottom of the heap, from which it has so far never recovered.

  • Nader didn't put them at the bottom of the heap, the CEOs of GM did it by building crappy cars like this. Nader probably saved thousands of lives by doing-in cars like the Corvair. Like a lot of people, I liked the Corvair Monza look, but thank God somebody impartial investigated it's safety.

  • u need to drive one ..corvairs are very safe and handle like a dream ..i have 20 cars 8 vairs..1 69 mustang ..my corvairs will out stop and handle it...my fieros are the only thing close but even with 4 wheel disk the vairs stop faster ..look it up

  • I don't doubt they're fun to drive. Too bad the company screwed up the early models with poor safety engineering. GM thought they owned the world back then and could do whatever they wanted.

  • @racaroc You tell em' bro. Nader was no ( no pun ) dummy !

  • the car unsafe at any speed!!!

  • Because he insisted on telling us what to drive and what not to drive. The Corvair does have its limitations. What car doesn't? But with careful driving, any car can provide you with enjoyment reliability and safety. I think Ralph Nader is an idiot who doesn't deserve to be President of the USA.

Thank you for the video. That was awesome!

  • Your absolutely correct. Read the book Lemon on Wheels. Nader butted in like the government demanding so much from the auto companies driving them out of business. Nader helped the demise of the Corvair which was way head of its time.

  • why is everyone hating on Nader?

  • Because he took our innocence.

  • because he was an attention seeking dickhead...Still is.

  • because he killed the U.S car industry, raped it and threw it on a ditch

  • i think the US car industry killed itself. frumpy cars, bad fuel consumption, barely any innovation..... (mainly talking after the 60s)

  • Hey stantonz! Thanks for the great upload! 5 stars

  • We had 2 Corvairs, one for Mom and one for Dad, and I Loved them, We had a Volkswagon before that and it was just SCARY. By the way ALL ford trucks from the 70's through the 90's had the same axel (Twin I-beam) Nader just wanted money and fame, like when he Fucks up every election

  • I had 1960 corver and 1974 vega both cars evan when was new feel like a used car ,oil leaks and very noisy on hiway.

  • i dont like it anyway

  • okay

  • 5:01 looks like the haiti voodoo from GTA Vice City

  • the voodo was supposed to be a 1960 impala...

  • Cars would still cost $4,000 if it wasn't for all of Naders safety crap.

  • I can't believe they didn't drive the corvair off a tall building, they drove it everywhere else!

I'm amazed at how "corny" the old ads sound now. Are we really becoming more sophisticated?

    Excellent videos Stantonz, thanks.

  • My mom took me to kindergarten in a 1960 light blue four door just like the one in this clip. Only problem was, it leaked oil. I didn't say goodbye to that baby until June of 1974. I know Ralph Nader didn't think much of it but it never did wrong by us. Thanks for posting!

  • My Mom had a Corvair back in the '60's. She mentions it from time to time. Apparently she loved that car.

  • wow what a overpriced piece of fuck iam glad i got a falcon.

  • Wow, the collision at 5:05 was pretty darn good for a car that has a trunk in the front. I'm impressed!

  • VWs don't suck but some of their "operators" do! Just shows the difference between a automobile "operator" and a automobile "driver". A real "driver" would have never posted the previous comment. The Corvair is a true "Driver's" automobile.

  • the corvair sucks

  • All vehicles with internal-combustion engines suck air in order to be able to ignite and draw power from fuel.

The Corvair sucks. What's your point?

  • ? i don't think you get it

  • can't suck more than you suck dick!!!!!

  • ...and your real mature aren't you

i'd like to see where you'll go with your life with comments like that

  • remember the book unsafe at any speed?

  • Ralph Nadar was a fine author. We all have alot to thank him for.

  • if todays cars were like thgis

  • now why doesn't toyota do this with there camry or any other 4 door...lol older cars can take anything this is a pure example.

  • I want one of these, but they're hard to find in Kansas. I prefer the 2nd generation.

  • lets take a corvair 4 wheeling! lol

  • Awesome vid!!!
