  • Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise (Ephesians 6:1-2)

  • Can i know who directed the making of this video? I want to use it for a project in school...

  • @AphraelEmery David Tsui :)

  • This video is the most touching one out of the series

  • Awwwh I almost shed a couple of tears

  • who is the main character for this video?

  • @iloveshoww94

it should be the younger son and the father

  • The grandson should understand his grandmother better

  • my grandma taught me that hokkien poem when i was little... ahh memories...

  • A man came to the Prophet and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your mother." The man asked for the fourth time, "Who is next?" The Prophet said, "Your father." ^ Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 2

  • @WA192 So true.

  • Most parents would walk through a mile of fire for their children but sadly some children wont budge an inch for their parents.

  • What's the conversation details at 1:12?

  • @aliancer That the grandmother is sick and the doctor told him that she needs to go to the hospital because she is becoming worse... I dont know what exactly is her illness... but u get what i mean!!!

  • 佛言:父母恩情重。恩深报实难。

Buddha said: How heavy is parental kindness and emotional concern! Their kindness is deep and difficult to repay.

  • Singaporens are good at these touching films or ads, understood the ad loud and clear.

  • i cant remember the last time i cried ...but watching this just let out waht feels like years of sadness and i cant stop crying

i love my family so much

  • i teared up. ive never done that for a youtube video before

  • That is why at age 17, I am always on the side with my parents from going to night markets or shopping with them. Other teenagers thinks that hanging with your mom is weird. It is not because there isn't much time to spend with the person who has raised you from the beginning. Kids take their parents for granted and in the end they love their parents dearly.

  • @aznboykicks Wow! You're parents are so blessed to have you!

I was like that too when I was in high school and university. Hey, why not? They are indeed the people who raised you.

Until now, at 23, I still ask for my Dad's opinion on clothes. I also like shopping with him!

  • @aznboykicks I still hold my mom hands. Even infront of my girl friend. HAHAHA! Nothing to be shame of.

  • when i watch this .. i started crying... my sister thinks im crazy i let her watch and she was touch too..

  • 天黑黑,要下雨,阿公拿斧头,要挖芋子,挖阿挖,挖阿挖 thats what i know only

the sky is dark, its going to rain, grandpa take the ax.dig and dig dig and dig

  • Wonderful.....Lovely

  • fuk that i cant stop my tear. last time of crying is about 5-6 years ago and i think im a detached guy but its really hurt, bumping my heart.

  • Whats the background music called?!

  • @bbatmanx3 Tian Hei Hei

  • I've read somewhere the director for this commercial is from HongKong

  • @spadypoonpeepee david tsui

  • ) '' :

  • i think its good... but we have been getting so much exposure on family values, im worried about overexposure which reduces the impact

  • oh my god...

  • A very touching story.

  • Actually, the old woman knew she had cancer, so she was hard on the family as she didn't want to burden them with her.

But the fact that they still remained filial to her is...just so heart-wrenching...and so touching..

  • the epic moment when justin speaks chinese. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • To all teenagers like me :

Although your grandparents may talk alot, they truly care about you. :D

  • I understand that people have their own opinion about everything.

But those people who disliked this video is WAY BEYOND me..

  • One of the most brilliant ads I've seen in a long time. It totally nailed it at 2:37.

  • The moral of this video is very strong.

Regardless of how our parents would treat us at the present,

We cannot deny their sacrifices which made us who we are.

Praises should be made for the late yasmin ahmad.

  • @ShizuruMiya I think this was not Yasmin Ahmad's film it's by a Hong Kong director.

  • @dickliu1973

I guess i mistook this commerial for the other which is "Family."

  • @povborders if im not wrong this video was made by the late yasmin ahmad.

  • terrific

  • This is beautiful :)

  • made me cry so hard

  • What the!!!! Filial piety should be earned; unconditional love can be shown in other ways. This video is misleading to the MAX!!!!!

  • Yea~ I think as the caption goes: Filial Piety and most of you seem to agree on this theme, then I feel that the producer has brought his intended message across; which in turn - is a success.

A small minority probably may not agree, but all that talk about how-good-this-is-vs-that is nothing but mental masturbation.

Instead of demeaning this vid, I think it'd be better to give comments on how to improve it. Isn't it tiring to be "right" all the time?

  • The boy acting inside is Justin and he came to my school to do an interview about filial piety...

  • @xxdunnuxx eh u from greenridge sec i also lol

  • @xxdunnuxx Which school is he from?

  • @5zacefron they nvr say...

  • @5zacefron he was from our school, SOTA, but he moved to france.

  • 1:51 the actress' is so convincing. I can feel her emotion.

  • I wonder those 8 peoples who dislike this video, feel really sorry for them ...

  • 太感动了

  • why @BicCherry is so into the commercial? is he a judge or what? you got no heart? no love issit? you take the video professionally or emotionally?

if you take this video professionally then YOU FAIL

  • This is a BEST ad i've ever seen in 40 years

  • wow it me felt sad quite touching

  • Is it just me or does the caption say "Father and Son" whilst the advertisement is about a MOTHER and her son?

  • @Theatrics7 You are totally right.

  • this was very touching

  • This is the first video or advertisement that could make me cry in my heart!

  • Tolerance is complementary to filial piety.

  • Its really pathetic that we need ads like these to help us realize that we should care for our family... the state of the nation.

  • worse thing is, that's exactly what's happening in my family right now /: it's so saddening to see the degradation of the human mind as age takes its toll.

  • A really touching video. the sequence of it was very effective. i think the actors are really good to. i mean this is definitely something i can relate to.

  • Could have be a Yasmin Ahmad reel if only she's around. Should see the version she did for Funeral which is even more touching.

  • Just be filial.

If you really need to spend time debating on whether is it a good or bad advertisement , then perhaps you have missed the point of the message that it is trying to send completely.

  • @1979PepsiCola, i totally agree with you. why argue whether its a good or bad ad and miss the point? but like what videokill75 said, why do we need such ads to remind us to be filial? Shouldn't being filial be something we already know and understand it's our responsibility be filial towards our parents/elders/guardians?

  • Is complaining that the food is too hard abusive? I don't get it... Why are you ppl saying that the old lady is abusive?

  • @ch0cstr4wb3rry Because when people serves you food, you should appreciate them for taking the effort to cook for you no matter it tastes good or bad. Even if it's bad, you should say it in a polite way. It's extremely rude to complain and say their food could kill you.

  • @ch0cstr4wb3rry I agree with 'eunicept10's comment. 'Filial Piety: Father and Son' leaves much too much to the imagination. The daughter-in-law at first resentful then accepting of the MIL's behavior also seems schizophrenic to me. This is a bad advert by any measure. Pls search youtube for 'Going Home' (Singapore Polytechnic- Directed by Vinn Bay) that says "Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and is NOT part of normal aging." - thus the flaw in this NatFamilyCouncil video.

  • @BicCherry but isn't love unconditional? - be it whether it's normal aging or not?

  • @denopry : it is 'unconditional' proviso: that it has been earned/ deserved. I'm not saying dat GM doesn't deserved to be loved, I'm just saying that this vid is unclear bc the DIL's behavior seems schizophrenic and the G-son seems confused by all this adult 'wayang'. --- Overambitious and unconvincing advert overall.

    Result = FAIL.

M'sia Petronas ones are much better. :).

    Rgds

    B.C.

  • I really felt like crying when I 1st watched this !! aww...its so touching

FAMILY = Father And Mother I Love You!! ;D

  • family = lovely

  • The lack of specification that Granny is 'demented' remains the severe flaw of this video, resulting in the audience being misled, or worse- forced into accepting the wrong values.

    Ref:

"Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia and is NOT part of normal aging."~ Video 'Going Home' (Singapore Polytechnic)- Award: First Prize; Produced by Kirill Tee, Directed by Vinn Bay - pls search YouTube (cannot post link here)

  • @BicCherry Video 'Going Home' (Singapore Polytechnic) is at: wj-YMiY4RAA (the usual youtube url up to 'watch?v=' goes in front of the address)

  • nice video. reminds me of someone i know.

  • i think that this advertisement is reeally effective.

very touching and not comical like other advertisements.

i dont understand why ppl dont get the objective of it~

maybe they dont understand filial piety..

  • I don't understand what the hell is wrong with some people, either they think too much or they don't use their shallow brains to think at all. The message of this video was very clear, it's emphasizing on filial piety. Stereotypes or not, it was simply an ad created with the mindset to remind people of the gratitude we should have towards our parents. Why are there such ignorant people who can't stop picking out flaws of this video? Personally I think this is an extremely well-done & touching ad

  • simple: Your parents took care of you when you are young, you take care of them when they are old. ^^

  • بالله عليك لو شاهدت الكليب دة .. تقدر تقول اية ؟

    جاااااااااامد جدااااااااا <3<3

  • ouch. that was really hard not to cry to. *wipes tears*

  • OMG! Why is people debating over this video. Filial Piety, plain and simple. You must be a retarded not to realize this. I am touched by this video, seriously.

  • Regret.. Fills me now...

  • Excellent cinematography exhances the message of this epitome of a short film. Kudos to the producers and hope to see more films in the future

  • Search for :- Petronas Raya 2006.

  • Only in Hong Kong, Black & White TV drama days people ran in the rain to hospital. Singapore family never happened before. if don't believed ask your parent. Were they 1st wife & 2nd wife situation?

  • Whenever i watc this i cry T.T But who's that cute young guy ? The one in the present ? CUTE ~

  • Comment removed

  • @AngelChenChen0110 He's my friend... Justin. Now he is really famous in school

  • I think it's sad that people need to be taught how to treat their parents well. That's the result of elitism and kiasuism! Soemthing is not quite right here. i have personally seen parents who are scared of their high achieveing children and treat them like gods! In case you missed it, do you notice that the filial son is a blue collar worker? Maybe should feature the CEOs and scholar class (and their equvalent) in this ad! Talk about role modelling!

  • i cried

  • After seeing this, i realise that how great our parents have fork out for us, with their undying love. Mum and Dad i will always love you no matter what happens. =]

  • The message of this video is very clear =/

I just don't understand why people are arguing/debating over this xD

  • I love this ad so much..!!! :))

  • How one generation loves , the next generation follows .

  • Hi there, does anyone know who wrote the screenplay for this?

  • All i could do is to let them rest in peace, grandma i wished your here with me along and keep me accompany.Even though i knew this day will come,i will still make use o everyday to let my loved ones last.Lastly,i have been a ignorant and defiant child so far as i always create troubles for my family.i had regretted all those misery deeds that i have done and i wished the time could travelled back.

If u were given another chance, will u still do the same as u have done now?

  • much needed to educate the youth now!

  • way to go guys, it's TOTALLY alright to treat your daughter-in-laws badly.

  • Did you guys know that this ad campaign cost S$1.6M to make? Now can you imagine instead of making this ad, the same money was directed to helping the poor elderly folks looking for empty drink cans and scrap cardboard boxes? Of course, not that it'll matter since there's absolutely nothing wrong with promoting misleading harmful stereotypes of the elderly and daughters-in-laws.

  • @Defennder A fishing lesson costs $500; a fish costs $5, I would pay $500 for a fishing lesson and fish for myself everyday. Maybe u will buy a fish everyday rather than picking up the fishing lesson.

$1.6Mil sure could help many people for once, twice or maybe more, but it won't help them a lifetime. This ad at least, influence thousands and will make them understands filial for a lifetime.

  • @repivonex WOW, so you think this ad could impart lasting lessons to the population and will not simply vanish and become forgotten just like the previous hundreds of many such social engineering ads. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. The touching "Funeral" ad, also broadcasted by MCYS has completely FAILED to make any impact on marriage rates in Singapore judging by the further decline this year. $1.6M won't last forever, but it'll actually have an impact, compared to this.

  • Comment removed

  • @repivonex Check out your statistics before making a completely unfounded claim like that. Singapore has been running tons of pro-family, pro-marriage campaigns since the late 1990s at least. Despite all the campaign efforts, divorce rates have been rising while marriages have been declining over the past 10 years. So much for "fishing for a lifetime".

  • Comment removed

  • @Defennder "Now can you imagine instead of making this ad, the same money was directed to helping the poor elderly folks looking for empty drink cans and scrap cardboard boxes?"

    ————————————————————————

Yeah, u would use the $1.6mil to help elderly folks who collect carboard, giving them better homes. I would use the $1.6mil to prevent more elderly folks from becoming those whom their family deserted them thus they are collecting cardboard.

  • The same ministry which produced this ad has refused to do any thing more to aid elderly folks collecting drink cans and cardboard boxes. All this folks don't qualify for the Public Assistance scheme, because it's only applicable to old folks who can't work and collecting drink cans apparent does count as work. The hypocrisy is astounding.

  • @Defennder I don't see any relations with statistic in this matter. Ever since Sex education started in Singapore, the rate of underage pregnancy increased every year, so do u imply that Sex education is a total failure and should be aborted by the government immediately? How would u know that the marriage rate would not have been much worse without the marriage campaigns u mentioned? I would suggest that the declining would have been more serious without those campagins.

  • @repivonex Well, not can you only not prove that the campaign have worked, you've suggested with zero evidence marriage rates would have been worse without it. The decline in marriage rates was present from 2008 to 2009, that single year where the ad was supposed to make a difference. And it's clear that a 3 min ad campaign on the air waves is very different from a detailed sex education syllabus every secondary school student has to study for.

  • In this world we can have many friends, money , lovers etc.. BUT for the rest of our life we can have ONLY One that is our only Mother.

    Mom I Love You!

  • Hi Defennder, I don't mean that all old people are of unsound mine; I mean that this could be the case in the video.

  • All I could think of after watching this short film is to be filial. There's really nothing much to debate about. It has really knocked some sense into me. :)
