Glenn Ford was not only a suberb actor, but as fine a man as you could mention. He came from a time when Hollywood stars were patriots and weren't shy about saying so. Ford served in the active/reserve military from the WWII era through Vietnam, volunterring for duty well past the age most men have gotten away from such things. To this day, whenever I see Ford as Ray Spruance in "Midway," I think of my late father, who looked very much like Ford and was also a navy man. RIP, Mr. Ford...
I think it was one of the greatest gifts for him, when he passed away. The last decade or so of his life were very hard on him, he had a series of bad strokes/heart compitations. On his son Peter's website he has a few pics of his father from his later years and he was in very bad shape. Thankfully Glenn left us a wonderful legacy. And he will always be remembered.
He truly one of the most successful, long running careers in all of Hollywood. He had a stead acting career from the 40's clear on into the late 80's.. that's saying something! Great vid, LOVE Glenn Ford!
One of the best there ever was, how he never won an oscar is beyond comprehension. He was a better screen cowboy than both Wayne and Eastwood, put together. He was the fastest gun alive and an excellent horseman . He was pure class.
@basilnelson HI There. Did you know that Peter Ford (Glenn's Son is Signing his Book at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on Saturday Evening April 16th. There will also be some of Glenn's Co Stars and friends for people to meet. Should be a great night. Sadly, I will not be there, as I am in Australia.
But hopefully, my son will be there. Try to get along if you are on the west coast of USA.
Glenn Ford started his acting career with a traveling theater company, and made his first film in 1939, and then went into military service. After the war he returned to films and is remembered for his excellent performances and his charismatic Silver Screen presence. Fondly, Hedda
Trivia: Ford is credited with being the fastest "gun" in Hollywood Westerns able to draw and fire in 0.4 seconds!
He seemed like an average Joe type too. Few movies of his have I seen. I get him confused in my minds' eye with John Forsythe for some reason. Ooh with Rita Hayworth? Mostly I associate him with westerns. Thanks.
Handsome.Rugged.and so talented): he had a presence on screen and off that commanded your attention, he was of a Era that sadly will never be again. But thanks to films and phot,s he still lives, and a special thanks
thanks
