If you think the best part of this game was the dog fetching the newspaper, you need to go back to playing The Sims.
Oh yeah, and the makers of this game didn't make it to impress anyone, AT ALL. They made it to piss people off, and in your case it was a screaming success.
Pacifism doesn't work in this game. You can do some crazy shit in this game. Some of the weapons have alt-fire. Like ricochet scissors, grenade-mines and a napalm projectile that bounces off of walls. You can also throw a donut on the ground, pee on it and make a policeman eat it and throw up. And a lot of other things.

I think there is an improved version of the game, also may I suggest learning the controls more and experimenting with the items, that may make the game(s) more enjoyable for you. Hopefully.
